Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless Lock Down Outstanding Younger Actor Category

Sorry, General Hospital, One Life to Live and The Bold and the Beautiful. Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless were the only soaps to land Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series nominations for the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Days of Our Lives’ Chandler Massey (Will)—who took home the award last year—and TV lover Freddie Smith (Sonny) both scored nods. Meanwhile, the apparently ageless Bryton James (Devon) was joined by The Young and the Restless newcomer Max Ehrich (Fenmore) in earning nominations for their soaps.

Max Ehrich completely deserves his nomination. I'm assuming Bryton was nominated to round out the category because, let's be honest, that Tucker-being-his-father story was ridiculous, and he wasn't doing any great acting in it.

Why the f--- is Bryton James still in this category? And better yet, why the hell is he nominated in ANY category? He's a decent actor but Christ almighty he's been on literally a handful of times in the last bit. Real head-scratcher.

I LOVE Freddie Smith but I think this is gonna come down to Chandler Massey and Max Ehrich. I suspect CM has submitted all the coming-out stuff and if so he's got this award locked up(even though I think he's been coasting heavily on autopilot of late). Still, ME is a total gem and if there's a dark horse, he'd be it because he's damn good.

Chandler already received an Emmy for the coming out stuff. Were he and Freddie nominated for that perfectly dreadful internet gambling story?

Not absolutely positive, but I seem to remember reading that Will's coming out story peaked just slightly past the cut-off date for last year's awards(maybe last March or April). And I think we're nearly a year-and-a-half to two years removed from the internet gambling garbage(if anything, that would been eligible for last year's submission I think, but who knows). Either way, I'd be surprised if he didn't get it again this year.

Nope, the gambling storyline was the year in which Chandler won his Emmy. Part of his coming out story was this past year so that is what he is being nominated for.

If there is any justice, Freddie will win as he was excellent in his scenes after the explosions, particularly when he accused Will of being a closet case. Plus Freddie is completely enthusiastic and supportive of his character, his story, his co-stars and his show. Chandler has been phoning it in for over a year now and he doesn't like his story, judging from that interview he gave last summer.

"Bryton" is like 35, what the hell? Not to mention he appeared in maybe 10 episodes. What a waste of a nomination.

So happy for especially Freddie Smith & Chandler Massey! I'm glad Freddie has gotten some more material last year to have to chance at this award. And even though Chandler has been a little generic this year last year he was still in top form!

Bryton does have talent, but IMO he is overrated in the Emmys. First of all, why is he even in this category anymore? Second of all, there have been plenty of other good actors on the show during his time, yet he seems to be the one that just keeps on getting nominated EVERY time. I don't get it. Third of all, this seems silly since he has barely been seen on the show since the new regime took over. Where is he anyway, could the show please even explain his abscence? Imagine if he wins - how humiliating for the show since they don't seem to think anything of him.

Max Ehrich seems capable enough of an actor, so I am glad for him. I, however, do not care at all for the character. The bullying storyline was an utter bust.

Couldn't agree more; Freddie seems like a great guy and it's obvious he invests alot in the WilSon story. And while I generally love CM, there's only so far you can go with the mugging/cheesy grinning. And yes, he's been on autopilot for awhile now.

Congrats to all the actors!

I actually thought we'd see the actor who played Jamie get a nom (since he was a pre-nom). I thought he did a great job. Max did too though in the bullying story on Y and R.

Devon had some good scenes too with both Kay and Tucker, but not my fav here.

I'm extremely disappointed by the lack of General Hospital stars to be nominated and by the ones who were nominated. There is no way that KA or LM deserved a nomination in my opinion. And that there were no General Hospital leading ladies nominated is unbelievable!! I hope that JT, JMB and BA sweep the Emmys!!!
