Which show do you think was the Best Soap of the Week?
Cartini or not, One Life to Live was still the best in a lot of people's opinions. I didn't vote because I can't really decide.
I had to go with my heart, AMC. That show is the REASON why I love soaps. I'm so happy that its back!!!!! Even with all of the info & confirmation, it still wasn't real to me that it was back. That moment came when they showed the first scene. When Brooke woke up from that nightmare & I saw her face, then she had that damn scrapbook in her lap, tears came to my eyes because it finally hit me: ALL MY CHILDREN IS BACK!!!!
The same thing with OLTL. When they showed the doorstep at Llanfair & Viki picked up The Banner, then the camera showed her face, it hit that ONE LIFE TO LIVE IS BACK!!!! Who would've ever thought that we would see these two & GH without Brian Frons' micromanaging. It's truly a great time to be a soap fan.
I can't get into the OLTL reboot myself. It feels too much like a brand new show (and a really bad one at that) rather than the version I always knew. It seems like a bad mix of Degrassi mixed with an MTV show mixed with a show off of Comedy Central. Dorian and David are both too zany to hold my interest. I hate David's reality show nonsense. I don't get what this CIA business is all about. There's nothing about the stories that's pulling me in, and I don't have the feeling of wanting to come back for more the way I did with the ABC version of the show. I'm very surprised that this reboot has been so highly praised.
OLTL for the win!
OLTL without a doubt.... loved it.
OLTL was very good this week, though I have to say that, minus Dannifer, DAYS was also pretty damn good(to TPTB--more Justin and Adrienne please?).
AMC wasn't bad at all either. As for Y&R, I'm just in a place of frustration with this show right now. Around the first of the year I couldn't wait to get home and watch but, with the exception of Lauren/Carmine/Michael, I'm just not feeling the least bit invested in any of the show's storylines right now. It's not unwatchable, mind you, but I've almost become indifferent at this point regarding alot of it(still, however, not indifferent to Kevin/Chloe--I actually hate that couple and saved my self some time this week by FFing through all their scenes). Ok, sorry, this isn't about what's worst, it's about best. For me, probably OLTL with DAYS a close second.
All of daytime TV soaps need to look at how they tell stories and how OLTL was able to change dialogue simply and make it seem real. Sure, there are a few words no one is allowed to use on CBS NBC and ABC but even with those words blipped out you still are left with REAL dialogue that you and I would use with friends and family.
AMC went so far back in the use of traditional and, might i add, AWKWARD dialogue that it made me cringe when I knew someone would say something STUPID.
That being said... OLTL was the best for me because it came back on fire and kept me interested to the end of the week.
Now, if Y&R wants to hold onto its numbers and fans who suffered through 5 years of endless UPs & DOWNs thanks to Maria Bell, then they need to pep this show up with the fantastic cast that it has! Honestly, it's like Maria is back there on the show and just hired a better writer for the dialogue. There are too many new faces and new characters with everyone in lame and dull stories. Some stories started off with an amazing amount of excitement but it seems that neither Jill or Josh know how to get them to the middle of the story and then to the end of it AND STILL HAVE US INTERESTED. Dylan can stay but he has to move onto to parenthood before Avery is destroyed and Nick moves on. Kevin needs to stop giving advice and then breaking and entering. Chloe needs to stop giving advice without speaking from experience that her own ADVICE sucks!!! As for Victor and Sharon... get them back to being friends and stop with his relentless harassing of her... and for that matter EVERYONE on the show. He is no more than a bully demanding your lunch money now. (When was the last time someone walked up to him and started the badgering?!)
Days is not even on my radar anymore now that Stefano is back because all the other baddies... his kids... take a back seat to him.
B&B was on fire the last 2 weeks. Love that scene with Brooke and Taylor but then Brooke turned out to be pregnant and I was bored and pissed again! Why not have Hope turn the tables on Steffy and do EXACTLY what Hope thinks Steffy did to Liam to get him AND just get him in the sack... drink, drugs, whatever it takes... get pregnant and then announce at Steffy's baby shower that she is pregnant with Liam's kid! Desperate women do MORE THAN JUST WHINE THAT ANOTHER TRAMP TOOK THEIR LIFE, they get twisted and go do something rash AND DRAMA DRIVEN!!!
GH is a cartoon to me. I catch it maybe 2.5 days a week and that's over 5 days of episodes with FF mode going strong! It neither exciting or dramatic or even dull. It's just a show with a good cast of characters but a ridiculous producer and head writer creating silly scenarios to keep people apart or pull them together. And if you want to argue with me on it then GUESS WHAT'S THE BIGGEST STORY on the show that a daytime talk show ... a real one... is involved now?!! RELISH! Great.
One Life To Live, hands down. I feel like an old friend has come home. Still can't believe we have our shows back!
I've been watching AMC & OLTL faithfully this week as I can watch them on my computer any time I'm connected or wherever I am - usually at home though where I have good wireless access.
Both shows are gripping me, and I like the shorter show time, a lot packed in to each show, but overall, OLTL wins out.
All that I have is... One Life to Live. Now THAT is the Snoop "Dog" song they should have used if they insisted on using a song by Snoop "Lion."
It was wonderful to have One Life to Live back. And I am very fine with the recast characters, new sets, shortened running time and shortened air week as well as how I access and watch it because I can access and watch it whenever I want.
I am so pleased and thankful OLTL is back. I am looking forward to watching it develop - creatively and production-wise.
One Life To Live.
It is just so great to have this show back, the negatives are so minor considering that. It truly feels like no time has passed, and these people all just picked up where they left off. Good job from everyone involved!
I don't watch AMC/OLTL.
All My Children. I like the new cast and the older characters fit in very well. Add a little bit of love and mystery and you have a pretty good soap. AMC needs to work on the dialog for the younger people a little bit but everything else worked very well.
One Life was good too but in my opinion handled Victor's return from the dead poorly. There should be a lot of questions, people should be more surprised and everything... I also found some of the Dorian/David scenes just a little bit too campy. It doesn't fit with this new version of OLTL.
And with General Hospital, I feel like the show wants to be all over the place for weeks now. Too many characters and too many storylines going on at once ... which makes it hard to care for the ones that interest me.
Y&R had a great episode on Friday. The rest of the week was a little bit too boring. I also can't with Avery, Dylan and Chelsea being the center of the show now. Just three characters I don't care about yet are being constantly thrown in our faces.
Since I've always been one to march to my own beat, I'll quickly say that I like the new AMC more than I like the new OLTL; but I don't think either of them was the best show last week.
Days was, IMO, very, very entertaining last week. EJ and Sami (especially Sami) were just delightful. Allison Sweeney was at the top of her game in those Nick/Sami, Kate/Sami, Sonny/Sami scenes. Last week was Sami week, I guess.
Other highlights: Jennifer and Daniel were....tolerable. Blake Berris is an amazing actor. The way his Nick is going off the deep end but trying to cling to the appearance of sanity in front of other people is truly fascinating to watch. And EJ plotting to take Stefano down made for a good surprise twist even though we all know IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
OLTL was the best. There were some flaws of course, which I am hoping they will correct eventually.
Sami stealing Nick's money is the kind of surprising-but-totally-in-character twist that I watch for. Days, even with the beige Dannifer, was quite good this week.
I voted for OLTL - even I'm having a hard time getting back into the OLTL Reboot. Mostly too much Dani and the younger crowd. Though, I loved seeing Vicki, Dorian, David, Bo, Nora & Clint again. I half expected the Victor return. As for Tood: I know Roger is eventually going back to GH (but rumor has it: not as Todd??? Not going to like that if it happens).... Maybe I'm dreading that will turn into a "Who Killed Todd?" plotline.
Does this sound like another JFP show that had 3 characters on all the time? I won't mention any names (JASON/SONNY/CARLY)! At least GH does have different characters on all the time now and mixes it up.
Glad others saw how good DAYS was this week. Dannifer is always a pass but luckily they were limited to just a couple episodes--I think--instead of the standard four or five.
Everything else about it was on point. The Sami/Sonny team-up was highly entertaining and OF COURSE when Sami comes across something that's not hers i.e. thirty grand then she's naturally gonna grab it. And I love love love that they've brought Adrienne and Justin into all this hot Brady/Dimera mess; hopefully Justin will take EJ up on his offer because there can never be enough Wally Kurth--and Judi Evans--on my screen.
And it's nice to see Nick finally starting to unravel. Could that gun Kate gifted Sami be a precursor to a possible murder mystery? I'm really not sure Nick is long for this world at the rate he's going.
Also have to mention the Kristen/Brady/Ciara scenes. Happy-all-the-time Ciara used to grate my nerves something fierce but this new, slight edge they've given her is working(and the little girl who plays her is a gem; you never know what's going on in that girl's head).
No matter what the polls say here. All My Children is the online winner in all the stats! Just keep that in mind
I'm right there with you. This reboot is no where like the TV version and that's not a good thing. To begin, the opening credit sequence is horrible and they should have used the Snoop song that was used when he guested on the TV version, that was way better. I too just didn't get that feeling of wanting to tune in tomorrow. I'm sticking in there because I'm looking at both this show and AMC as new shows as opposed to continuation. So I have to allow for them to obtain their footing. AMC was no better. I felt like I was watching an Afterschool special with the younger set, Miranda, AJ, Petey, and that new girl(Forgot her name).
I think most people who picked OLTL or AMC as the best soaps of the week are just doing it out of the joy of having them back but in no way were either of these soaps the best of the week. Of course, I'm glad both are back but at the same time, I know both need major improvements and hopefully we will see that as time progress. I recall Thorsten Kaye making a statement for fans to bear with the online shows as they go through their "growing pains", so I as a fan, am willing to do so.
Well I can't speak for most people like you can. I can only say that I watch all 6 soaps and OLTL was the best soap of the week in my opinion. Good thing we are not all in agreement because otherwise this would be a boring site.
@fmat55....I gave my opinion as to why I think people picked OLTL as best of the week. How does that translate to me speaking for most people. SMH
robertscorpio, You were diminishing OLTL fans, basically saying that people ONLY voted for it because it is back, and not because it really was the best. I hardly think that the outspoken people on this site would vote for something because it's back. Usually here every soap is critisized when needed.
I stand by my opinion. If you go back and read some of the posts, you can see that people include phrases such as going with their heart or loving that the shows are back. Its not far-fetched to think that some of the OLTL votes are just from people who are happy that the show is back. Its nothing wrong with that and its really no reason for insinuations that the OLTL fans are being diminished.
Out of the four I currently watch I'd like Y and R to get back to that best spot but I'd rank last week:
Y and R
B and B
Its not far-fetched to think that SOME of the OLTL votes are just from people who are happy that the show is back.
Had you used the word SOME instead of MOST in your original post, I wouldn't have even commented because I would agree with you on that point.
