What did JFP do have her assistant issue something so generic while casting her next GH or HH throwaways? There is no warmth to this statement at all! Angry

Is that the best she can do? What a joke JFP is. Why can't she retire? She has nothing left to offer for daytime. That bag of tricks is expired.

Can't stand JFP....just glad she wasn't able to kill off Katherine Chancellor like she did Lila Quartermain. What a bitch she was for doing that to Anna Lee...I for one will never forgive her that!

That picture was taken in 1927. JFP's, I mean. Hilarious that it's straight from CBS.

Just found out about Jeanne Cooper. Very sad that she has passed away. She was front and center on Y&R since the beginning. She was very, very good and in a day and age where it seems like dimples and good looking bodies have somewhat dominated soaps, a soap veteran like Cooper, knocked it out of the park all the time on Y&R. She was a cornerstone of Y&R and soaps in general and Y&R will never be the same again.

Jeanne, you lived a great life. Rest in Peace.(

Wow, you guys are truly hateful!! This woman could have written a Shakespeare sonnet to Jeanne and you would still criticize. When you lose someone as special as Jeanne it cannot be put into words. Stop the hate for even just one day.

It's not even really about JFP's statement. Or everyone's universal hatred for the woman.

Right now, I think it's very respectful that JFP issued ANYTHING. There are some who haven't...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME JFP? THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. JEANNE COOPER CONTINUTED TO KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK TIME AFTER TIME ON THAT SHOW AND THATS THE BEST YOU CAN DO. YOU NEED TO DO BETTER. THE FANS DESERVE THIS TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE TO HER AND THAT MEANS YOU NEED TO HONOR HER THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.

I MEAN FOR THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY ON THIS SHOW IT WAS JUST ANOTHER DAY. THERE WAS NOTHING THERE FOR THE FANS TO SEE LIKE CLIPS THROUGH THE YRS TO HONOR THIS SHOW. ITS A SAD DAY WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN A PART OF A SHOW AS LONG AS THIS AND YOU CANT DO THE RIGHT THING.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES CONTINUES TO HONOR FRANCES REID AND MACDONALD CAREY TO THIS DAY. THERES NO CONTINUITY TO THIS SHOW ANYMORE.

Let the cast, crew, writers, etc. mourn their loss. No matter if you expect a person to die or not, it is never easy when it happens. She has only been gone for a few hours and people are already stating that the writers will not do her justice. Geesh!! As for the 40th anniversary show goes, we had clips by the veterans, including Jeanne, who spoke of their tenure on the show. I am sick and tired of the bitching and moaning from some people. Let them deal with their loss before thinking of how they will write her off!!!

JFP probably didn't know JC very well since Katherine wasn't on all that often since the regime change so I can't be angry at her. Any anger I have goes to MAB who WASTED Jill and Katherine for YEARS. After MAB reversed the Mom & Daughter story she ignored them and they never had a story together again. Angry

I don't think JFP was even familiar with the characters of Y&R before she started. I seem to remember she said she familiarized herself by watching the show after she knew she was taking over. That made me laugh because MAB's Y&R (especially at the end) wasn't anything like Y&R anymore.

I hope JFP can convince Jess Walton to work more often so Jill can carry on the Chancellor family. If not I guess I'm done with soaps. I won't be interested in a Y&R with out JILL and Chancellor clan/Chancellor Mansion.

I think it's shitty that JFP cannot do better for someone who joined the show 6 months into the show's run and stayed there for 40 years.
I think a one liner isn't enough but that's just me.

My god, some of you are really stupid. Who tyhe hell do you think you are to decide if a statement is good or not good. Yopu have no say in it. Its JFP choice and her choice only. I cant even believe the nerve some of yoy have to call this woman out just because of the fact she makes a short statement. Who even gives a shit. Someone died, someone with a family, someone with children, someone with friend, and then over here, at DC, some louzy posters seem to know what is right and wrong. Stupid behaviour.

The role of Katherine was shown less more in the recent years, you know, yes she was a big part of this show, but she was not the Stephanie Forrester of Y&R. She was just one of the main charactyers for a long time, but time changes, storylines change, viewers change, characters change, writers change. Yoy cant please us all. I think some of the posters are right when they say that JFP probably had no use for the character of Katherine anymore, but you know, thats her choice. AND NOW...there is nothing to choose anymore. Stop complaining!

I think the anger about the 40th anniversary is justified. They celebrated Chelsea & Avery more than Katherine Chancellor. I thought The Marie Show did the best tribute, she's the only one who had both JC & JW on and spoke about Jill & Katherine. It's really a shame they never brought Brock back for a story for teh 40th, but then their focus newbies were Alex, Blahdraina, Anita, Wheeler etc., etc,. It wasn't just JFP, MAB celebrated the milestones focusing on Victor. I think JC (& JW for that matter)stopped being appreciated from 2005 on.

Everyone grieves in their own way. Anger's part of the process. Most of us didn't really know JC, but we knew Katherine Chancellor intimately. I understand wanting the best for JC's character, it's what we knew of JC. To me an honorable ending for Kay on Y&R honors JC. I want them to treat that's treat Katherine Chancellor like she's important.FOR ONCE I'd like them to focus on HER family, the one Bill Bell built for her for over 3 decades. Bring back Brock, one of the Macs, Murphy, LOT'S of Jill, Chance, Phillip III, Ester, Murphy, Gina, Nina,.. everyone (who's still alive or have the dead ones hang with ghost John. lol) that they can who was once part of the Chancellor clan who we knew and loved with Katherine Chancellor through the years. (Allow Billy to be in a scene too.)

JC was Katherine Chancellor for 40 years, she was more than Stephanie Forester of B&B ...to me anyways. Just because MAB had Victor on the brain 24/7 and JFP is all about the male characters doesn't mean longtime viewers feel the same. I agree that JFP & MAB regimes don't/didn't value it's older female characters, and it just screams that they don't value their older female audience. If they don't bring back Jill, all they will have is Victor's wife- Nikki. I don't know how many women, young or old, can relate to a character who written as Victor's accessory. Jill & Kay were the strong women on the show.

Well Pennywise.

There is no soap on television that focusses on the old women, simply because it doesnt bring in the money. Its all about advertising, and well, in general, old people are not the main focus of advertising companies. You can actually aply the same rule here, things change.

Yes, she was KC for 40 years, but time is just a number, and it wouldnt be more or less of an impact if she spend 30 years or 20 years on that show. She accomplished a lot, but she wasnt a main character for a very long time. KC was more like Sally Spectra. She didnt carry the show, like the character of Stephanie Forrester did for its entire run. She was just a big character, with a lot of history who faded away the last ten years into the background of Y&R.

I for one dont think that was a mistake. But thats just my opinion.

I'm not JFP's biggest fan at all, but we don't know that this will be her last statement. I think we were all expecting this to come, but it is still a shock nonetheless. Maybe tomorrow we will get more.

I have made statements on facebook and twitter today and still think of things I should have added to those statements. Kinda hard to think through all the tears.

I think the comments should really be about Jeanne, and not JFP.

We'll all miss her.

We have watched and enjoyed Jeanne Cooper play Katherine Chancellor, for the 30+ years that we have been watching this show. We are very sad to hear of her passing, though we thought on Friday it might be the last time we saw her. She will be missed. We personally would rather not see her replaced, but that is not up to us.

No offense, booze26, but Jeanne Cooper most definitely was even BIGGER than Stephanie Forrester was to B&B (no disrespect to Stephanie or SF)

We are talking about the longest-serving cast member and matriarch, who had been on this show as the only cast member from nearly the start, of the number 1 soap of the USA. She was there from the beginning. Her epic feud with Jill lasted for 40 years, and as such, was unparallelled. There are many people who feel Katherine WAS Y&R.

Any accolade and memoriam that Jeanne gets, whether it's a speech or a tribute, is not enough. There are not enough measures in the world that can be taken, to celebrate the fabulous life of Jeanne Cooper and Katherine "Kay" Chancellor.

You know, I've been lurking on this site for well over a year. I never really felt compelled to register and participate - until now.

I can't believe the comments I'm reading slamming Jill Phelps' statement about Jeanne Cooper's death. Shame on some of you.

I understand that people will hate Jill Phelps even if she cures Cancer, AIDS and ends world hunger, but, in this case, I think slamming her for using too short of a statement is kind of absurd.

If she'd released a long, drawn out statement, she would have been slammed for not being on the show long enough and not knowing Jeanne Cooper enough and, therefore, being a hypocrite.

Look, I wasn't a Catherine fan. I blame Maria Bell for that. She destroyed Catherine by turning her into a mean, spiteful, evil, human being. I liked Catherine before Maria Bell took over; then, they went downhill with the character. But, even I can take this moment and recognize it for what it is: the loss of a human being and a ground breaking television legend.

Let's not forget that.

Also: let's give a bit of credit to a producing/writing team with some maturity and gravitas to recognize the importance of dramatic scenes, versus a producing/writing team that loves camp.

Jeanne's last scene was simply stunning. Yes, it was luck, in a way, but Jill Phelps and Josh Griffith are trying to be more dramatic and meaningful with their stories and scenes. That, overall, gives the show more depth.

If Maria had been in charge, Jeanne's last scene would have been Katherine wearing a clown mask dangling feet-first from a crop dusting airplane.

Guy...didn't you just do the same thing to Maria that you are accusing others of doing to Jill?

All comments should be about Jeanne today and we all should leave other opinions out of the discussion.

pferrando, fair point. But, I did put my comments in context.

I agree that we should only talk about the loss of Jeanne and nothing else.
