Report: FX Canada Replaces All My Children and One Life to Live With 30 Rock Reruns

What exactly does Prospect Park's decision to cut down on new episodes of All My Children and One Life to Live mean for their pact with FX Canada? According to Canadian entertainment journalist Nelson Branco (Soap Opera Uncensored), the cabler is replacing the soaps with repeats of 30 Rock. Tweeted Branco:

Continuing to try to stay positive here, but losing a much-hyped revenue stream two weeks into the rollout for these shows can't be a good sign. I really hope PP knows what they are doing.

I think PP is on its way to cancellation. They have lost their TV audience and I doubt many will be willing to incur extra costs to watch online when its being offered at no cost to US viewers on Hulu

no they haven't.. if viewers can afford cable, they can easily pay for iTunes Canada.

8 dollars for 20 episodes, that's less than what a season of a show cost

this entitled bs from soap fans, irritates me....

I WAS THE VERY FIRST ONE TO PREDICT THAT THIS DEAL WITH P.P. WOULDN'T WORK.

and i was proven right.

No you werent since the shows are still taping. 110 shows per soap are better than zero.

They have not failed. They are finding what works best for them and their casts and crews.

You know what is BS and irritates me more? its soap fans who get irritated by others who dare to have a different opinion

The issue isnt whether or not they can afford it. If you were getting this channel as part of your package then you didnt incur any extra costs to watch the shows. Now you have shell out extra money every month and the question is are the same number of viewers going to be willing to do this given the quality of shows produced so far and the fact that others viewers are watching it at no cost? Not watching it because you dont want to pay extra doesnt make you entitled when other fans are watching it for FREE. The question is whether or not the shows they produced so far are worth the extra cost to Canadian viewers and will the TV audience be willing to make that change? If some dont think its worth their extra money or that they like US viewers should also get access to free shows, it doesnt mean they are being entitled.

Well more people in Canada will now be able to watch on Itunes than on FX Canada since some major cablers out there dont even carry FX Canada

The number of viewers had to have DROPPED off drastically from WEEK 1 to WEEK 2 and 3 for Prospect Park to drop the series from 4 to 2 episodes per week for both soaps.

They have said they had to hit a magic number PER week for the shows to be financially viable. That being said, it had to be UTTERLY catastrophic decline from week to week for them to make the huge change SOOOO quickly into the production.

if that's not the case and the ratings are there but the money is not, they should be honest with fans that we are all still watching but "sorry, we can't afford 4."

The reasons are a bit lame given that the NEW format was to allow us to watch whenever n wherever we wanted.

Hurray... More will people will watch on itunes... I didn't have FX and didn't want to get it , but i wonder how many people did get it for the sole reason of watching these shows ... and how quickly they'll cancel their 'subscription'...
FX was able to get a bit of publicity out of this - as I 'd never even heard of it before....

Some people in Canada may have televisions with cable to watch on FX Canada, but don't have a way to watch online using iTunes. Not everyone has a home computer, tablet or smart phone with fast internet access. Those people are the ones who I feel sorry for as they have no options now to watch the show period.

Well that will depend on if these people are willing incur the extra charge because I assume most people are already paying for a cable service package of some sort. If someone wasnt watching them before on FX and stopped in 2011, are they suddenly going to be willing to paying extra to watch them this week? May be but eitherway I think that number will end up being much less than the TV audience which isnt a good thing.

appleridge wrote above that Prospect Park "... have not failed. They are finding out what works best for them and their cast and crews."

Probably someone said exactly this as the Titanic was sinking. Prospect Park's first attempt to revive these two soaps was a complete failure. Now, in their second attempt, within weeks they've cut back their plan for new episodes by 50%. Meanwhile, they're in a legal battle with ABC (which they won't win) over the rights to the three actors from ONE LIFE TO LIVE who've returned to GENERAL HOSPITAL. But people still want to believe that the Prospect Park management team knows what they're doing. Really?

The lawsuit is about the characters not the actors but lets save that for the right thread

maybe people feel that upgrading their existing cable with another channel where they will be able to watch other shows worthwhile but while they may be able to afford $20 it isn't worth it for just one show or like said already they have no access to itunes or do not like watching on their computers/phones/ipads.

lets be serious who is going to go to the library or community center just to watch a show unless that is already back of your routine.

First PP cuts the show to 1 hour a week and now it takes away the free show and wants viewers to pay for this 1 hour? Who is making these stupid decisions. PP is a mess.

the costs at itunes, you wonder?
20 episodes for $9.99 Canadian -

Which unfortunately , I guess includes the ( unwatchable) recap/infomercial-like 'show' (pardon my cynicism , I can't help it in regards to this particular show, the recap show)
that looks back on the week of both OLTL and AMC - it isn't clear , but that is probably the case.

How will they fill the time only recapping two episodes of each program a week-
I hazard to guess with more infomercial like fluff...?

Including recap show: 9.99 Can. , 3 shows a week for 6 weeks? or 2 shows for 10?

The pricing is the same as in the US , but as usual,
there is no accounting for the currency discrepancy, however slight.

$9.99 US = $10.28 Canadian

appleridge--I haven't read the legal papers filed by the two sides. Have you? If I'm wrong, I stand corrected. In any case, the ship is sinking. Enjoy these two soaps while you can.

You are being very unrealistic what are the chances that the viewers she is talking about (who I will assume are older people)are going to go out to community centers and libraries to try and watch AMC & OLTL.

I just looked at the itunes tv shows charts and I do not see either soap listed in the top 10 and I looked in both episode and seasons. Can someone please tell me where they are seeing that either show is in the top ten at itunes, maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

You didnt have to pay to watch only this show coz it was on TV. They have taken it off and the only way to watch it is if you buy it on Itunes.

What are you talking about you are the one who gave that option that people go to libraries and community centers.
