HomeTVThe Young and The RestlessNick Doesn’t Want to Taste Avery’s Muffin on The Young and the Restless Luke Kerr May 22, 2013 The Young and The Restless, TV Recap 25 Comments Avery (Jessica Collins) arrived at Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) with muffins, but he wasn’t in the mood to taste her delicacies. When Avery asked what was wrong, Nick told her about Summer’s (Hunter King) clandestine prom party. After Avery left, Nick used a swab from a home DNA kit. Dylan (Steve Burton) was having nightmares while sleeping on a cot in his new home. How exactly does Dylan, whose time on this show has been shorter than a Wile E. Coyote botched bomb fuse, already deserve his own set? Dylan’s new digs appear to be bigger than the Baldwin/Fenmore and Winter’s residences combined! Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Dylan went to the fair together. They visited the fortune teller, who quickly called Chelsea out about her pregnancy. Chelsea covered and they left, only to bump into Adam (Michael Muhney) and Avery. When Adam and Chelsea got into an argument, Dylan broke it up. Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily (Christel Khalil) had a charming morning. Meanwhile, Tyler (Redaric Williams) and Leslie (Angell Conwell) were talking about, you guessed it, Lily. Later, Tyler went to Lily and told him he was quitting Jabot. Cane thought he was meeting with Katherine (Jeanne Cooper), but instead it was Jill (Jess Walton) who kept the appointment. The two began arguing about his ability to run Chancellor. Jill told him she was worried about him being too nice. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Oliver (Zack Conroy) arrived for a Jabot photo shoot. Kyle (Hartley Sawyer) asked Summer out for dinner. When she asked if it was a date, he replied that it was just dinner. Inspired by one of Avery’s comments about Chelsea beginning to show, Adam started calculating the math of Chelsea’s pregnancy. 25 Responses pferrando May 22, 2013 Yesterday’s episode was one of the weakest in the past two weeks. I’d point out the obvious, but instead I’ll focus on the positive. It was sooooo good to see Jill. I’ve always liked the interaction between her and Cane. I hope they amp up their power plays at Chancellor. And I gotta say that I think Josh Morrow continues to get hotter as he ages. That scruff he had going on yesterday…I’d be bringing him dozens of cupcakes, donuts, etc. if I was Avery too. Log in to Reply bishbay May 22, 2013 pferrando, I really do wonder how Avery’s head can be turned by Dylan when she had Nick on the hook, history be damned. As predicted by me and about a hundred other people on here, Dylan has (at least) two of the show’s leading women in love with him, is on more than anyone else and now has a huge set, all within six months of joining the show. You think SBu wasn’t a factor in MS leaving the show? Relatively certain they used Phyllis’ penthouse set for his new home, explaining why her character had to be shoehorned into the Abbott mansion. Ah, well. At least the ratings are good. (That was gallows humor, in case anyone’s wondering.) Log in to Reply LaDivaYR May 22, 2013 The whole Nick/Avery/Dylan fiasco is sinking Y&R, fast. The more JFP shoves bland blond Avery down our throats, the more we realize she’ll never be a true LEADING LADY! No offense to the actress, she is ok talented and cute, she just doesn’t have the “it” factor that commands the viewers’ attention. Devoting all this time to her is a huge mistake! I watch Y&R on DVR and honestly, my FF button can’t take it anymore! Y&R has fabulous leading ladies desperate for a good storyline. Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki), Sharon Case (Sharon), Beth Maitland (Tracy), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and others. Why is the new regime so enamored with second-rate wannabes like Avery, Chelsea and Summer? Is it Budget$$$$? Surely these dime-a-dozen “actresses” are a lot cheaper than real actresses but come on, you get what you paid for! Right now Y&R is ZZZZZ-ville with all the inane ramblings of whiny Chelsea, cupcake queen Avery and trampy Summer. Log in to Reply LaDivaYR May 22, 2013 @ Bishbay, of course Michelle Stafford quit because the show has been taken over by JFP’s pets! Phyllis was shoved into a supporting role from the start and promptly replaced as the town trainwreck by Chelsea, Avery, Lauren and Summer. Michelle Stafford is a diva, period. She ruled the kingdom when MAB was in charge but JFP don’t play like that. MS kissed many, many, MANY asses over the years, that’s why she became a leading lady on Y&R and was always nominated for Emmys (despite her ridiculous overacting and screaming). But JFP is a diva bitch, too. She HATES women over 40+ and will always favor hot male actors over them. Right now Y&R is a male-driven trainwreck: Dylan, Nick, Adam, Billy, Michael, Carmine, Tyler, heck even closeted chipmunk Kevin are front and center every single week. The ladies are just supporting players! That’s why boring blondes Avery, Summer, nuAbby have been hired. JFP doesn’t want anybody throwing shade or outshining her boys. Y&R is a sinking ship. MS is a smart trick, she can see the signs. I guarantee you she’ll turn up at GH any day now. She’s been kissing Cartini’s ass for months!!! She knows where the next meal ticket works, lol. Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon May 22, 2013 Avery is not an interesting character. Neither is Dylan. And I don’t really think it’s the actors’ fault. I’ll leave it at that…..No, I won’t. It’s the the fault of the WRITERS and the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER. Log in to Reply pferrando May 22, 2013 It’s not smart to head to GH right now as their ratings haven’t had much movement after their 50th. Y and R still is also maintaining it’s ratings. Unfortunately I think we’ll need to see a drop (sustained) before JFP is walked out. She’s really the problem. I don’t see Josh as the issue right now. And c’mon LaDiva, you don’t get 10 Emmy noms and win a few just by overacting and screaming. Michelle uses it all, but when’s the last time she did what you describe. Many people could say the same about Tony Geary, Kim Zimmer, Justin Deas, David Canary…the list could go on and on and they also have multiple noms/wins. Log in to Reply bishbay May 22, 2013 I am a fan of MS, and think it’s unfair to say that her political skill is the only reason she’s been a prominent and award-winning part of Y&R. To me, anyhow, she’s interesting to watch and always commits to her scenes. That goes a long way. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 May 22, 2013 As long as Avery, Dylan and Chelsea are front and center Y&R is not something I care about. I want the Newmans, the Abbotts. I want to know what’s going on in the Chancellor mansion. I don’t want to deal with these awful newbies five days a week. Not to mention that Steve Burton’s “acting” must be some of the worst Y&R has seen since Yvonne Zima left. Log in to Reply richalan67 May 22, 2013 I think Avery is a very good character. She’s actually my favorite right now. I have been hoping for years that Phyllis would leave and by damned wishes do come true! Log in to Reply dqh257 May 22, 2013 @soapjunkie88 they aren’t front and center; they are part of a more balanced canvas than we had with MAB. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean you should exaggerate what’s actually occurring on the screen. You have yours and I let you have it. Log in to Reply bobbyew May 22, 2013 AMNIO CENTESIS!!! If Adam as smart as he is does not ask Chelsea for an amnio in the next coupla episodes. The writers need to be shot. I have not posted in quite some time because I enjoy all the other post and feel that I dont’t really need to express anything about the show but today was the straw that broke the camels back. Log in to Reply bobbyew May 22, 2013 Amnio Centesis will get Steve Burton off of our screen and back to GH where he needs to be. There are 8 to 10 people on Y&R’s payroll that we never see. Dylan, Chelsea and Avery are treated as the A-story every day they are on. A soap cannot even have an A-story that is based just around newbies. I feel that even Nick and Adam are only supporting players/ foils for these D, C and A. Not to mention Sharon, who has been reduced to having meaningless, occasional sex with Adam. I utterly agree with soapjunkie. Log in to Reply pferrando May 22, 2013 Junkie, and Yoryla I also don’t feel it’s balanced at all. I’ve mentioned in other posts that Nikki is absent. That’s probably my biggest gripe. And I’m all for new blood as long as they are woven in and are tied to or children of legacy characters. But you can’t throw them into scenes together. You can’t have them all on one show, and you can’t repeat that cycle day after day. I think I counted 34 actors…26/27 on contract, and that’s still too many. To be fair some of the new faces are non-contract, but a few of those, like Chavez, and Mason, I actually would welcome more. I don’t want the ratings to suffer EVER, so I hope this noise continues until some changes are made. Log in to Reply NathanHastingsSr. May 22, 2013 This isn’t Y&R! Who are these people on my screen everyday? Why should I care about Dylan tho he is hot… Log in to Reply dqh257 May 22, 2013 @Yoryla, so would you prefer Sharon be “Pass-around Patty” or the kleptomaniac? When Sharon does have a story, it’s not integral to the character and when she doesn’t, she’s reduced to simply being Adam’s FB. The writers of the show can’t win. Personally, the character of Sharon needs a break and while I’d prefer to see some of her therapy sessions not be in an empty coffee shop, I do think her learning to be self-sufficient and self-satisfied without a husband, boyfriend, or father figure to prop her up actually gives the character more depth to be a more viable leading lady down the line. Log in to Reply Yoryla May 22, 2013 dqh, Exactly like you said in the last paragraph, she needs more depth. And no, I wouldn’t want her back to being the town tramp or kleptomaniac. But there was such a thing as a young adult, loving mother Sharon from 1995 to 2002 who made the occasional mistakes, but she was never nuts. She was a young heroine. Even after the first kissing Victor fiasco and abandoning her children, and dreaming of being a stripper, she came around in 2004 and actually started to work. And even thought the Jack & Sharon marriage was totally bizarre and chemistry-free, I enjoyed Sharon during that time. She had depth, wisdom and strength of character. If we could have THAT Sharon back, preferably in the place of Avery or Chelsea or both, then thank you, yes. Log in to Reply RockiDreams May 23, 2013 I like Y & R right now – enjoy Chelsea, Dylan, the Michael/Lauren storyline, Billy gambling again, the paternity possibilities. I am getting weary of them making Avery walk around with cookies and muffins. I liked the cooking angle but something fancy for dinner was kind of fun for a change. I mean at least someone cooks and eats in GC. As for Ms. Summer – every summer they bump up the icky teen storylines so I have a feeling she will be front and center with the morose Fen who reminds me of Barnabas from Dark Shadows. I half expect him to nash his teeth periodically. In any case, it is the first soap I turn on to forget a hellish day at work, the 2nd being B & B. GH is no longer on my DVR – they just got too stupid for me and I despise the newbies on there. I may check it back out in a couple of months. Sometimes a break is a good thing. Log in to Reply pferrando May 23, 2013 Having the teen stories is essential to trying to get the younger viewers hooked especially new ones when they are off during the summer. I remember getting hooked on Guiding Light in the early 80’s when Laurel Falls was on almost daily with Kelly, Nola, Morgan…I also liked the “adult” stories, but that was why I started watching it along with Y and R. I think they have the beginning of that, so hopefully it will used wisely, but not monopolize the screen. I’d like to see more teen couples. They should have kept Jamie around, who’d by now be integrated more had his story been thought through. I agree, Steve Burton is a worse actor than Yvonne Zima and that is really saying something. Log in to Reply SoapSnob May 23, 2013 pferrando, I always enjoy your posts as they are always so rational and thoughtful. And you clearly share my affinity (and affection) for The Young and the Restless. As much as I have enjoyed the show in the past and stood by it through its horrid changes starting with the LML years to the present, I am fading fast. I find it very boring and just do not enjoy the direction in which it is going. I never thought I would stop watching, but I just do not find the show interesting anymore. Nothing is holding my interests or attention – not even the Lauren/Michael stuff or the upcoming Nick/Phyllis/Jack Summer paternity stuff. It all feels disjointed and just not interesting. We have approached the third regime of TPTB who do not “get” this show. When are Sony, CBS, Angelica McDaniel and whomever else going to realize that this current incarnation of Y&R is not working? It is NOT “The Gold Standard” of daytime drama that it used to be. I hope that they can course correct before it is too late. Please note, all due respect to the posters who currently enjoy (even love) what they are seeing on Y&R. And finally, pferrando, a big shout out to you for your Morgan/Kelly/Nola mention. That was a very good time for daytime dramas. And clearly one of the best eras of the Guiding Light. Log in to Reply pferrando May 23, 2013 Thank you SoapSnob for your kind words. I am sticking with the show I guess because I’ve seen the worst. I just hope that someone hears before Jill has a chance to expand her vision. I do think that some of the stories are well written. I’ll be honest, I’d like to go off and rant about a lot of the new faces I see but a lot of my fellow posters who I respect are liking some of them. I like the sense of community most of us have here, especially when it comes to the love of the show….or at least the memory of it, so I’ll just generalize like I always do. But anytime a long time viewer stops watching it’s a sign that the show in some way is in trouble. It’s sad. Yeah, I was just a teenager when I saw GL and I didn’t really know I was watching Douglas Marland’s work. I’d later start watching ATWT when he introduced the Snyder’s. I didn’t pay attention to writers, EPs back then, but I knew what I liked. I hope you stick it out, friend! Log in to Reply yojoromo4469 May 23, 2013 I am like the two posters immediately above. Discouraged with a lot of what is happening. I detest Dylan. Am not pleased with NuKyle, NuSummer, NuAbby. I miss the old regulars. Love Marcy Rylan as Abby. Don’t get the reason for Phyllis leaving. Hopefully it is her idea. Hope they don’t replace her, as played by Michelle, she is not replaceable. Don’t care for the old rehashed Billy gambling story and Vikki should give up on Newman and be a housemouse. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
