HomeTVAll My ChildrenSusan Lucci on All My Children Scheduling Challenges: “I’m Trying, and They Are Trying” Jamey Giddens May 28, 2013 All My Children, Deadly Affairs, Devious Maids, Hulu, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Prospect Park, The Online Network, TOLN 21 Comments Just what has been the hold up in regards to Erica Kane fabulously descending upon Pine Valley? All My Children legend Susan Lucci broke it down in a recent We Love Soaps interview. Said La Lucci: "I'm trying, and they are trying. There's a lot to work out simply because when they went into production I was in Atlanta working on the Marc Cherry series, DEVIOUS MAIDS. And now we're about to start Season 2 on my Investigation Discovery series, DEADLY AFFAIRS next week in New York. So that's a lot of complicated scheduling. Plus, ALL MY CHILDREN's schedule is also complicated and challenging because they work five weeks on and five weeks off. So trying to marry those two things, that's what the challenge is and that's what we're going to try to make happen." I think Pete Cortlandt (Rob Wilson) needs to develop a scheduling app ASAP! 21 Responses Ryan-Scott May 28, 2013 Fingers crossed!!!! Log in to Reply GertieGal May 28, 2013 I may be in the minority BUT the show does not need Erica Kane…especially on a regular basis. I would enjoy a pop in appearance on occasion but it definitely should not revolve around her! Actually I feel the current stories are quite good…much better than they were for the past several years. Which makes me wonder why the need for new head writers…hmmm Log in to Reply ldylkng May 29, 2013 Agree Gertiegal! I always thought Erica was too over the top! Never appreciated her type of acting, although loved her on Army wives. Log in to Reply DevinMissesOLTL May 29, 2013 La Kane IS All My Children! That’s case and point. Yes the show is doing well but having her on could only make it better! I say bring on the Queen of PV!!! Log in to Reply LauraWrightCrazy May 29, 2013 Case & Point ..Lol I love Susan Lucci & before the reboot I couldn’t imagine life in Pine Valley without her.. Now? Lol.. While I miss Erica/Opal scenes & spats between her & Brooke… I honestly think Opal & Brooke are doing one helluva job without her.. And you know who else is doing a fine job at keeping the Kane throne warm?.. NuMiranda!! Oh my.. She truly is this man’s reason for tuning in Lol. I’d love a visit from Mama Bear.. But Pine Valley is doing just fine for now Log in to Reply DevinMissesOLTL May 29, 2013 Case and point! That’s right! People that don’t watch soaps know the name Erica Kane. And ITA, AMC is doing well but no one could convince me her presence is not missed. I for sure want to see her and Maranda together. It should be like looking in a mirror for Erica Lol! That’s gonna be fun! Log in to Reply LauraWrightCrazy May 29, 2013 Log in to Reply Llanview76 May 29, 2013 I agree with Gertie and Laura, I don’t miss Erica so much because now the show is about “everyone” not “Erica and how she impacts everyone with her tired dream”…Though Erica has ties to at least 2/3rds the cast on the show…she would be a great catalyst when making periodic appearances. She doesn’t have to be on everyday. The character has never evolved…she’s more tragedy than triumph. Log in to Reply ryder May 29, 2013 I think Susan Lucci should steer clear of this online mess that is NOT All My Children. All My Children is R.I.P. This ship has sank and sadly, I dare say, sometimes keeping something on life support is a mistake. Move on Susan, move on….. Log in to Reply LauraWrightCrazy May 29, 2013 I love my new AMC.. I think any actor should be proud to be a part of this new format.. Log in to Reply Llanview76 May 29, 2013 I agree. I don’t get the emphatic nay saying on CHILDREN or ONE LIFE. I don’t understand the head writer-go-round, or the reduction in episodes, I don’t care! It’s nice that it’s back in any incarnation. Before we had nothing, now we have something. Correct me if I am wrong – evolving from radio, soaps practically got staged on a sound stage with very little props. They were on 15 minutes a day and entertained before slowly evolving into 30 minutes, 45 minutes, an hour, 90 minutes, back to an hour…still entertaining and then the bloodshed happened. Now CHILDREN and ONE LIFE have risen from that carnage and the stories of the Martins and the Chandlers, the Lords and the Buchanans are being continued in a new medium, and I think it’s fabulous and quite an education. It’s about the ensemble, and I will never understand the Susan Lucci emphasis…what Tad, Brooke, Phoebe, Adam, Palmer, Daisy, Myrtle and Opal weren’t landmark characters in their own right? Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 May 29, 2013 Erica Kane is EVERYTHING. Everything, I say! Fingers and toesies crossed that they call can get it together. Log in to Reply nysam May 29, 2013 She is being polite and blaming scheduling for her not being on the reboot. DEVIOUS MAIDS wrapped months ago and her show on ID involves shooting wraps that are basically intros. It is a week’s worth of work at the most. I don’t think Lucci wants to do the show plain and simple. Log in to Reply DevinMissesOLTL May 29, 2013 [quote=Llanview76]I agree. I don’t get the emphatic nay saying on CHILDREN or ONE LIFE. And I loved each one of them amd enjoyed them as well. But Erica Kane is and will always be the epitome of AMC! If you liked her or not, she is what the world thinks of when you say ALL MY CHILDREN. Log in to Reply Llanview76 May 29, 2013 Actually I disagree because I think of Palmer releasing the hound on Daisy, or Tad locked in the safe with Robin on the day of his wedding to Hillary; Brooke being told Laura was killed in a car accident comes to mind…Cindy having AIDS. And of course the marry-go-round of Erica Kane Martin Brent, and I am too tired to recount the other surnames. I feel when people say Susan Lucci is AMC or in some cases Susan Lucci is daytime, it’s passing aside the other talents in the genre. It’s all well and good if you believe it, I say more power to you. Even I used to think she was great too, until I adopted an appreciation for an ensemble effort. It’s like with GUIDING LIGHT – people say sans Reva the show was great to watch because now you had time shared between characters like Roger, Alexandra, Vanessa, Billy, Ed, Maureen, Blake, etc.,…I’m not going to drag this out, but yeah I don’t epitomize success from one person being on the show. The only person I felt precipitated the end of something was Kate Mulgrew’s Mary Ryan on RYAN’S HOPE. Log in to Reply rapido May 29, 2013 She is too polite to say she really wants nothing to do with the nushow. Same with Michael e knight. I do not blame them for staying away and she is getting other work. Prospect park signed a bunch of out of work actors willing to work for low money. I suspect michael knight put away a bunch of money and he does not need to bother. How long the show will last is up in the air. I will be surprised if it survives the year. Log in to Reply pferrando May 29, 2013 It might be hard to get anyone else on board with all the recent news/changes to the shows. It doesn’t seem too stable right now. Log in to Reply larkin May 29, 2013 What really has to be worked out is what Miranda will call Erica? What will happen when Miranda becomes pregnant and Miss Kane becomes a *gasp* Great Grandmother Log in to Reply CTwildheart May 30, 2013 @Rapido – Thankfully you don’t run things. I believe Susan when she says she is trying to make it work. I think the show is still good and will only get better, I’ll meet you back here early next May when the show is going strong. Log in to Reply CTwildheart May 30, 2013 I think the show is doing just fine, but I would never mind seeing Erica pop in! Log in to Reply luverica May 31, 2013 For all those who are going on about not wanting Susan Lucci to come back, she’s not needed, I never liked her, yadda, yadda, yadda, to each their own but CHILL OUT! Don’t get me wrong. Everyone has a right to their opinion and as much as I love, and have loved for a long time, Susan Lucci/Erica Kane, I do respect the fact that everyone does not feel the same BUT she is only talking about a temporary return and not a permanent visit and there should be nothing wrong with that. Whether some like it or not, Susan Lucci was, and quite frankly, is still the reigning queen of daytime. Over the many years (since 1970), she has earned that spot. Does she have the acting range of let’s say a Michelle Stafford, Erika Slezak, or even her own longtime co-star Julia Barr…no! Nevertheless, her name, both actress and character are known by at least 50% of the non-soap viewing public and there’s a lot to be said about that and should be respected. I for one am enjoying the AMC reboot far more than the OLTL reboot. It does feel different watching it in this 30 minute online format where the budget is obviously not as big as the one they got in broadcast TV but it feels like the old 70s Agnes Nixon AMC. Compared to its last years, with the exception of the excellent Lorraine Broderick final period, it’s an actual improvement, even though I do wish the very disturbing Cassandra/sex slavery storyline would end soon. With all that said, the absence of Erica Kane is noticeable to me. Again, I’m okay with her showing up temporarily from time to time but again, whether one wants to admit it or not, as DC likes to say, AMC is the house that Erica Kane had a lot to do with building so again, I welcome her return.
