HomeTVCBS This MorningGood Morning America Dominates Today During May Sweeps Luke Kerr May 31, 2013 5 Comments It looks like Good Morning America’s dominance over the wounded Today is becoming more permanent. According to The Hollywood Reporter, GMA ruled the ratings roost during May, in both total viewers and the 25-54 adult demographic. It was GMA's biggest win over their NBC nemesis since 1994. GMA averaged 2.1 million viewers in the key demo, up 2 percent from the same period last year and 110,000 viewers north of Today. The last May sweep that saw a victory of that size was in 1994. CBS This Morning came in a distant third, just under a million shy of GMA. Photo Credit: ABC 5 Responses Ms 45 June 1, 2013 I switched to GMA from Today after Meredith left. I could not stand Ann “Amateur Hour” Curry and watching her fumble and mumble and the overall non-chemistry with Matt sent me over to GMA which I was able to enjoy after Diane Sawyer left. But I’m back with Today because I absolutely adore Willie Geist. He is smart, sharp, and funny and has improved Today 100%. Now they just need to phase out Matt and ideally find a female host with more personality than Savannah Guthrie (who feels interchangeable to me with Natalie Morales). While I felt bad for Ann Curry, she should have stayed as the newsreader, she’d still be there today if she would have stayed put. I would suggest Hoda as a co-host. I don’t find Savannah excels in the role either. If Hoda can put with Kathie Lee Gifford on a daily basis she can certainly make do with Matt Lauer. The show comes in third place in their home NYC market behind GMA and the local FOX affiliate’s morning show. What does that tell you? NBC hasn’t handled the show well at all. Ann Curry wasn’t the problem, but Lauer and the network made her humiliating departure the catalyst for its collapse. Willie Giest should take Lauer’s spot immediately, but the peacock’s suits are too stupid to make that move. ABC won’t let GMA slip after taking years to get back to being #1. NBC blew it. Can’t feel sorry for them at all. Log in to Reply blake3b June 2, 2013 Good for GMA, they deserve it! Log in to Reply pferrando June 3, 2013 Good. And I’d like to see CBS keep moving up. Their show really seems to be more news, and I’m loving it. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
