HomeSpoilersPromos & PreviewsShick Plays The Cassie Card With Summer on The Young and the Restless (VIDEO) Jamey Giddens May 31, 2013 Promos & Previews, Soap Opera Spoilers, The Young and The Restless, The Young and the Restless Spoilers 18 Comments Could learning how her big sister died, while being hot-in-the-ass for an older boy, curtail Summer Newman's (Hunter King) fast, womanish ways on The Young and the Restless? Nick (Joshua Morrow) is hoping so; which is why he invited both Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Sharon (Sharon Case) over to his horse shed to tell Summer how Cassie (Camryn Grimes) became a teen tragedy. Watch a sneak peek below! 18 Responses richalan67 May 31, 2013 I thought this was very well-written and acted. It really was a PSA on teen actions and how they affect all of those around them. Well done!! Log in to Reply RebeccaJ May 31, 2013 I find it INCREDIBLY hard to believe that while Summer is 18 years old and Nick/Sharon have been dealing with Cassie’s death EVERY YEAR on the anniversary of her death, that Summer does not know the story of her half-sister’s death by now. Nick NEVER discussed it?! I almost fell off my chair when Summer said she never knew the story. And you never thought to ASK?! Talk about self-absorbed… Log in to Reply thecourt99 May 31, 2013 I loved the scene. I think Summer had a high level knowledge of what happened, but maybe not the details. Log in to Reply MsAgentProvocateur1 May 31, 2013 @RebeccaJ: it’s the problem with extreme SORASing now. Personally, I don’t even buy Phyllis and Nick being married as long as they supposedly have to accommodate Summer’s rapid aging. Log in to Reply tmac May 31, 2013 It’s a soap…you obviously have to suspend all belief in time lines. If Cassie died when she was 14 as they said, and Summer is now 18 and was born a year after Cassie died, then Cassie would be 33 now. Meaning Sharon would be at least 49. Ya just gotta go with it. I personally thought the story, was a waste of time. Summer strikes me as not the brightest bulb in the pack and everything went in one ear and out the other. Log in to Reply stoney07 June 1, 2013 I loved it. I agree it would’ve been even better with the old music. But the writing for it was realllly good. No complaints from me. Log in to Reply Blue Skies and Palomino Ponies June 1, 2013 I liked it, too. I think I’m getting sentimental, knowing that MS’s time on the show is drawing to a close, but I really appreciated seeing Phyllis, Nick and Sharon sharing a scene like this. I thought they covered the base very well when Nick and Phyllis discussed that while every year they grieve on Cassie’s anniversary, Cassie and the story of her death aren’t “real” for Summer, because she didn’t live it. And I don’t think it’s so hard to believe that a child wouldn’t ask a lot of questions about the circumstances behind her sister’s death when she saw how much pain it brought her parents. It didn’t feel like a cheesy PSA — I thought it was a respectful nod to the storyline and gave Summer a little more context for her parents’ reaction to her recent behavior. Log in to Reply aroundhound June 2, 2013 Why is Michelle Stafford leaving? It’s like taking the mustard out of the hot dog bun. She will definitely be replaced but is irreplaceable. Maybe now Drucilla will be asked back. That would be killer. Log in to Reply pjc722 June 2, 2013 I loved this episode of them talking to Summer but I do have a nitpicky point to put out there. My nitpicky is that I would have liked to have seen more discussion with Summer about who Cassie was and Summer sitting down and talking about everything. It just seemed to me that it will be in one ear and out the other especially since Summer’s last scene was in the coffee house with Fen and not, let’s say, talking to her mother about her attraction to Kyle, an older man. The episode was FANTASTIC but I would have liked to have seen Summer now grow up and decide that after that dramatic conversation with the three adults, that she confides with Phyllis about her desires and why she feels she needs to give up her virginity. I want to like Summer but it’s hard when the writers don’t write her as a smart teen. Even if she didn’t talk to Phyllis, maybe show her talking to her girlfriend sseriously about why they both feel it necessary to lose their virginity to men. This story with Summer and Kyle can move from being SILLY, as this episode proved, and show two teenage girls coming to the realization that to be in love doesn’t mean to have sex. It could be an amazingly empowering story for young women AND EVEN show that Summer is mature and not a spoiled brat as we are seeing now! Log in to Reply pjc722 June 2, 2013 I think we will soon find out why Michelle actually is leaving the show. If the rumors are correct we will be sad for one but STOKED about the other. I don’t know the reason Michelle has opted to leave the soap. I can tell you that I am extremely saddened by it because I think Michelle is amazing. I also LOVE LOVE the dynamic and tough performances by Victoria Rowell. Now, I don’t know if the hints of drama with Neil and Lily are truly hints at momma Dru coming back onto the show but I do hope its true! We lose one and HOPEFULLY gain another. MAYBE GH will scoop up Michelle and recast CONNIE/KATE!!!! Log in to Reply yojoromo4469 June 2, 2013 [quote=pjc722]I think we will soon find out why Michelle actually is leaving the show. Log in to Reply pjc722 June 3, 2013 I don’t see it anywhere on the web that she is banned. Sure, I’ve read where she has said many times over that there is no diversity behind the scenes. But I have the same from other black actors on the show… specifically Kristoff St John which resulted in lack of story for him, as well. I did not say that Victoria was coming back. I merely wish she would. She was an amazing actress, as was the entire cast of characters around her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CfY8y3Zi5N4#! This scene shows Y&R at its best under Bill Bell. (And look at the size of that apartment! Man, I miss the days of money on shows) Log in to Reply RebeccaJ June 3, 2013 The reason that this scene with Summer didn’t ring true for me is because this is something Nick and Sharon and the whole Newman family live with every year on the anniversary–something I like btw because that adds ‘reality’ to it. So how is it that Summer never knew what happened? It not only involved her step sister but her half brother as well! Log in to Reply aroundhound June 3, 2013 I bet Victoria Rowell does come back. Years have passed, powers that were have passed away and passed on to other things but she remains one of the most compelling actresses ever to grace that show. Log in to Reply pferrando June 3, 2013 It could be done…and the last interview I read with VR seemed like she was conceding that she may need to tone it down a bit. Like Stafford’s, I’d never want the character recast. David posted a youtube link to a Dru/Phyllis scene with the second Diane, and it proves why sometimes you just shouldn’t recast. IMO.
