LIVE BLOG: 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Daytime Confidential's Official Live Blog for The 40th Annual Daytime Emmys! We'll get started in a bit, but drop me a line in the comments on what you expect for the evening!

The show is officially underway y'all! I caught some of the red carpet show, but I didn't see many soap stars. I don't know what that's about, but I digress.

We open with hosts Robin Meade, Sam Champion and AJ Hammer. I like Robin's dress. They're rambling about the Daytime Emmys turning 40 this year. Oh great, they're going to sing. Now, Robin is singing. I don't understand what's happening here.

Okay. Sam is doing a Daytme Emmy Doppler radar. I still have yet to see something that features a soap star. They just showed George Lucas who looks like he'd rather have a V8 than be in the audience. I'm kind of feeling your pain George.

So Sheryl Underwood is going to interview all the stars as they win their awards on stage. She's going to fan girl ALL OVER the place, as she's a long time soap fan.

The nominees for Outstanding Younger Actor all come out on stage. They're presenting:

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR

And The Emmy Goes To...

DOUG DAVIDSON from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

It's a bit early for Lead Actor, but I don't run the show. I'm so THRILLED to see Doug Davidson win this award. He's been putting in work at YR since the beginning of time! I'm getting a little teary eyed. He's so awesome.

LAWD IN THE MORNING! Sheryl done kissed Doug all in the mouth. She's now interviewing Doug after his win. This interview is a little awkward. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Some random commercial featuring a few past emmy winners, including Nancy Lee Grahn, Wayne Brady and Katie Couric, comes. They talk about what they can do with their awards. Nancy uses it as a whisk. Katie uses it as a date. I know their being sarcastic, but I don't like it. It feels insulting to the award show. I don't think we would see an Oscar commercial do the same thing.

Why am I listening to Robin Meade sing again. Jesus Be A Fence. This is almost like Vegas, but for HLN.

Robin finally put her singing voice away, and introduces Todd Newton. He's a game show host on a show I've never heard of. He presents:

OUTSTANDING GAME SHOW

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE PRICE IS RIGHT

I'm fine with this win. Heaven knows I've been watching TPIR since I can remember. If I'm home in the morning when it airs, I always watch it. Who doesn;t love Plinko? The guy giving the speech also was nominated for Let's Make A Deal. He beat himself. He said that...out loud.

Todd also presents:

OUTSTANDING GAME SHOW HOST

And The Emmy Goes To...

BEN BAILEY from CASH CAB

I love Cash Cab. It's such a nerd game show and I love that. Ben does a great job hosting as well. He has to drive safely, be funny, and remember the questions. All in all, it's a good show. Ben's giving his speech and I think he's freaking out a bit. He's won this before, too.

Now, Sam Champion is interviewing Ben. Yeah, this interview after the win has GOT to go. Nobody is paying attention in the audience. Scrap it, HLN!

A commercial with Alex Trebek on the phone by the pool is shown. He's talking about being tense. Then, Chad Duell comes up in a waiter's uniform and offers Alex a drink. Alex pushes Chad in the water. If that's not a metaphor for what's happening to our soap stars tonight, then I don't know what is. They're drowing in the rest of daytime. In the words of Jordan from the Pine Valley Podcast, I am NOT AMUSED HLN!

Robin introduces the ladies from The Talk. They have some cute banter about the nominees for informative talk show. Sharon is acting a bit off. They present:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW INFORMATIVE

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE DR. OZ SHOW

Holy Embarrassment Batman! They gave the ladies the WRONG envelope. Poor babies had to stall until the right envelope for the proper category could be brought to them. Aisha Tyler saved it for me though. I'm clearly going to have to give this award show to GLORY, but I can not right now. Who produced this?? It's all over the place.

"There better be a cocktail waiting for me on my table!"-Aisha Tyler.

Absolutely Aisha!

Robin's back. She introduces Nancy Lee Grahn (she showed up this year) and Don Diamont. Nancy's dress is fab, though. Our tow beautiful soap stars present:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR

And The Emmy Goes To....

IT'S A TIE!

SCOTT CLIFTON, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and BILLY MILLER, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

We'll I'll be John Brown, they both won! I'm fine with a tie. Those two are always fabulous. I loved Billy's speech. He talks about the people of daytime being the hardest working people int he busines. Here, Here Billy!

Now these couch interviews with Scott and Billy. Giada de Laurentis is about to come out of her dress. Scott and Billy are dueling with their Emmy's like swords. I love it. Billy Miller is having fun with this. He's DESTORYING Giada in this interview. Billy Miller, you're amazing!

I will say, I do like how we can see the broadcast during the commercial in an inset in the corner.

FINALLY SOME I CAN GET BEHIND! A montage of the Divas of Daytime. We see some of the great ladies and performances of the past in Daytime. We end with Jeanne Cooper saying, Good Night. I get teary eyed every time I see it.

Kathy Griffin is up next. She gave up some love for Giada's boobs. It was funny. We really needed that Kathy. She says a few of her favorite lines from the past year in soaps. Can Kathy Griffin and Aisha Tyler host the show next year? Kathy presents:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES WRITING TEAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

Awww, Foots. I wanted One Life to Live to win. I think I said something about Bold possibly winning, but I don't remember. Brad Bell accepts the award.

Robin introduces Wayne Brady. He's presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Monty Hall. Wayne sings Monty's praises, and brings him out. Apparently, there was supposed to be a video to accompany Monty, but it didn't air. Seriously, who produced this? They need help, immediately.

A promo with Karla Mosley and Linsey Godfrey to prop up some make up shows. It's okay. The ladies are beautiful, as usual.

Sam's back, but I can't hear him, because his microphone is off.

The production of this show is a MESS from the M allllll the way down to the S!

Robin Meade is going to sing again. This show should have been called: 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: A special concert by Robin Meade. I'm done, y'all. I'm officially unable to can. Robin can sing 71789798392020th times, but Monty freaking Hall can't get a video tribute. I call BS!

Kelly Monaco and Jason Thompson are looking mighty beautiful on my screen. They present:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS

And The Emmy Goes To…

JULIE MARIE BERMAN

I tried to tell y’all they love her on the podcast! I knew she was going to get this. I’m not saying she does not deserve it, but I would have loved to see KKL take this one away. On another note, Julie’s dress is FAB.U.LOUS. She is werking it!

I'm just going to mentally block out these after stage interviews. This nonsense should just be enttled "How NOT to do an awards show". Oh wow, Giada just had to quite down the audience so Julie could speak. When your peers don't care, just get rid of this feature. I'm over it.

They got Nancy Lee Grahn out on the streets of Hollywood looking like Boo Boo the Fool. WHY Jesus, WHY?!?!

Sam introduces Bethenny Frankel. She presents:

OUTSTANDING CULINARY PROGRAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

IT'S A TIE!

Food Netowrk's BEST THING I EVER ATE and TRISHA'S SOUTHERN KITCHEN

Bethenny also presents:

OUTSTANDING CULINARY HOST

And The Emmy Goes To...

LiDIA BASTIANICH for LIDIA'S ITALY

She wasn't there so Bethenny accepted on her behalf.

I don't even know what's happening on this broadcast anymore. It's a mess. Jump cuts, mics with a no sound, people missing their cues, and we've still got 45 minutes left. AJ introudeces Alex Trebek. Alex talks about Daytime Television getting an exhibit in The Smithsonian.

My Melody Thomas Scott finally appears on my screen. She looks FLAWLESS! She speaks about The Smithsonian and Daytime Telelvision partnership. She donated Nikki's wedding dress from 2002 on The Young and The Restless. She breaks down Nikki's full name, it was awesome!

More Nancy. They show more of these insulting commercials.

Another AMAZING montage! This time featuring 40 years of Catfights! My only gripe is that it was too short!

Robin introuduces the nominees for Younger Actress. Jacqueline MacInnes Wood looks all kinds of AMAZING! The ladies present:

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS

And The Emmy Goes To...

HEATHER TOM from THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

WOW! I'm legit SHOCKED! I just this was Susan's award. Heather was always the dark horse in all this. I'm not mad one bit. Congrats to Heather! Heather now that you've had all this success on BB, will you come home to The Young and the Restless...pretty please?!?! **Lights Candle In A Window**

Julie Chen is givng Heather the after win interview. Julie asks about Heather's baby.

Back to Robin, she introduces Corbin Bernsen and Jess Walton. I don't know how long I'm going to be able to keep my composure. It's the In Memoriam segment of the show. Jess' voice is already breaking. She's getting to me. Oh Lawd...they just let the S word slip. SWEET MERCY. Corbin said the full F word on the show and they didn't bleep it. They cussing during the Memoriam part of the show. Some where my grandmother just bit the head off of a puppy.

The In Memoriam tribute airs.

Robin introduces Dr. Drew Pinski. Dr. Drew presents:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW ENTERTAINMENT

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW

We knew Ellen was going to win. Ellen's show is honestly pretty great. The ladies from The Talk look as salty as they can be.

Rachael Ray graces the stage. Her girls are sitting pretty and came out to say HELLO in this dress. She presents:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES DIRECTING TEAM

And The Emmy Goes To....

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

I think I mentioned something about this too in the Emmy podcast. Congrats BB!

Linsey and Karla are back with some more Emmy fashion.

I KNOW this heffa is not about to sing again. Robin's singing again. I'm OUTDONE. Tell me when it's over. I don't care that you don't have any shoes on Robin. Go put some on and don't sing anymore on the Daytime Emmys.

Carrie Fisher from Star Wars appears on stage. She's serving Darth Vader realness with her outfit! George Lucas looks like he'd rather by ANYWHERE but at The Daytime Emmys. He didn't want to see Carrie at all. It's like he didn't know her. Carrie cracks jokes about being an addict and throws Ozzie Osbourne in the mix. Carrie is SHADING George Lucas. Carrie presents:

OUTSTANDING SPECIAL CLASS ANIMATED PROGRAM

The Emmy Goes To...

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

George and Carrie are about to be on stage together. I feel this could be a recipe for disaster....and I'm HERE for it. This is George's first Emmy.

A montage of 40 years of Talk Shows airs. Another of 40 years of Hot Daytime Dads airs.

Lindsey Hartley approaches the mic. Oh Lindsey, I don't know how I feel about this dress. I don't think I like the color on her. Anywho, she presents:

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR

And The Emmy Goes To...

CHANDLER MASSEY from DAYS OF OUR LIVES

I really thought Max would get this one. However, Chandler did have a great reel. Congrats Chandler.

I don't know when the younger actor category took precendence over the LEAD actor categories. Can someone please point me in the direction of the line to see Jesus?

Betty White graces us with her presence! She looks so AMAZING! Betty White needs to host this show next year. She speaks about Lifetime Achievement Recipient Bob Stewart. A montage airs about his work. Bob unfortuantely passed in the last year, so his son accepts his award for him.

Nancy Lee Grahn is sitting down on the street talking to a group of guys about soaps. It was kinda funny!

Steve Harvey comes out in a nice suit. He presents:

OUTSTANDING MORNING PROGRAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

CBS SUNDAY MORNING

Is it just me, or is this show a little CBS heavy? I'm just saying....

Vincent Irizarry is still good looking. He presents:

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS

And The Emmy Goes To...

KRISTEN ALDERSON from GENERAL HOSPTIAL

I'm happy to see her win. She was so surprised. Poor baby, she doesnt know which way to go. GET IT KRISTEN! She's been doing this since she was a baby. Best win of the night!

Robin presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL SONG

And The Emmy Goes To...

"GOOD AFTERNOON" for GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA

I'm glad someone won the award for their song. As long as Robin doesn't sing anymore, I'm good.

More Nancy on the streets of Hollywood. This time she's giving people the Emmy and having them make up a speech. It's okay.

Kris Jenne looks great tonight. She presents:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW HOST

And The Emmy Goes To...

RICKI LAKE for THE RICKI LAKE SHOW

I loved Ricki Lake's show when it was a hot mess and came on after Jenny Jones. I didn't like the new one. I still love Ricki, though.

Erika Slezak finally appears on my screen. She always looks so classy! She drops a line about OLTL being on the web. The soap great presents:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To...

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Well folks, I'm speechless. I just...I don't.....Congrats to Days. Poor One Life to Live got shut out again. It is nice to see Suzanne Rogers and whole Days crew up there though.

Well y'all, that's it for this years Daytime Emmys. It certainly was a SHOW, wasn't it? Drop me a few lines in the comments on your reactions to everything. Good Night, Everyone!

I'm praying OLTL wins Best Drama. I'm not very religious, but I'm really hoping they win, so I asked for a little divine intervention.

I think those backstage interviews are going to create some lag in the flow of the show. And I'll echo those who complain that the opening was bad. Because it was bad.

Where's The_Moustache?

Someone needs to make a GIF with George Lucas' unimpressed face. And say ''George Lucas is Not Impressed!''
