Both he and Edie Falco will be remembered for many years for their exceptional work on this series. I had always held out hope that these characters might be re-visited in a movie but alas it was not meant to be. RIP James Gandolfini. Although O’Connor recognized the place that Archie Bunker occupied in American culture and he was proud of his work on the show, he was the antithesis of pretty much everything Archie stood for–the bigotry and intolerance. I can understand why actors would want to be recognized by their actual names, not just their characters. Think of all those soap actors who’ve been confronted by fans thinking that they were their characters! Gandolfini, was a very underrated character actor, he starred in one of the funnier plays to come out in recent years God of Carnage. But wow, 51, and he has some very young children! Sad.
