HomeTVThe Young and The RestlessBig Red Doesn’t Deserve to Go Out Like This on The Young and the Restless Luke Kerr July 24, 2013 The Young and The Restless, TV Recap 29 Comments Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) fought on the stairwell, as Sharon tried to stop Jack (Peter Bergman) from hearing what Phyllis had to say. Phyllis took a Humpty Dumpty worthy fall down the stairs, as the applause behind Jack drowned out her scream. Sharon scrambled down the stairwell and hovered over Phyllis’ body. Instead of picking up the phone and telling Jack that Phyllis needed help, Sharon shut off the phone and felt for a pulse. I can’t believe Big Red is going out like this. Stafford deserved better than a fall down the stairs. As Sharon was trying to figure out what to do, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Avery (Jessica Collins) came into the stairwell and started making out. Clearly, they were oblivious to the world. Sharon somehow managed sneak away. Nick and Avery came up for air, and then noticed Phyllis lying on the stairwell landing. Avery rushed back to the party to get a doctor, and was followed back by a group of Genoa City’s citizens. Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily (Christel Khalil) shared a romantic moment. Blah, blah, blah. Same song, same unimaginably boring verse. The Young and the Restless keeps singing it, and it only gets worse. Meanwhile, Lauren (Tracey Bregman) was not happy with Carmine (Marco Dapper) for tricking her into meeting with him. She told Carmine she didn’t realize how deeply he cares for her. Carmine realized his words wouldn’t convince her, so he pulled her into his arms. She pushed him away, and demanded to know what he was doing. Carmine responded he wanted more than an hour with her. At the police station, Jill (Jess Walton) tried to help Michael (Christian LeBlanc). We DESPERATELY need more Jill on our TV screens. Especially with Stafford leaving the show. Sharon fled home, as everyone rushed to the hospital to check on Phyllis. Sharon received a visit from ghost Cassie (Camryn Grimes). Then, Noah (Robert Adamson) showed up to tell his mom what happened to Phyllis. Another perk of the episode: No Dyldumb (Steve Burton). Log in to Reply Restless Fan July 25, 2013 This storyline blows. What’s more contrived? A)Phyllis becoming a sloppy doormat vixen who wishes her sister well with the man she is in love with while pretending to seduce her daughters first love instead of being honest with her? B)Sharon switching DNA results out of the blue and then going unnoticed by Nick and Avery in the stairwell while she picked up the contents of her purse and “quietly” walked out the door? She’s apparently this regimes Adam Newman. C)Adam and Jacks sudden Father/Son relationship? (Ashley will have something to say about that) What happened to Jack’s fierce loyalty to family? Evidently moving a Senators daughters corpse is a bond thicker than blood. D)All of the above Log in to Reply The_Moustache July 25, 2013 i don’t agree for Michelle Stafford’s Scientology & bullying beliefs, but she’s a 2 time Emmy winner and deserved a better or at least a decent exit storyline than this. Log in to Reply Ryan-Scott July 25, 2013 “Muddy Storytelling” to quote the late Doug Marland. All I have to say. Log in to Reply Thankulord13 July 25, 2013 I am sorry but if Dru went over a cliff the Pillyss can fall down the stairs and die. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 July 25, 2013 The story is still very, very stupid. As for Stafford’s exit I don’t really care. Why shouldn’t she go out that way? It fits perfectly how Dru was written out a couple of years ago on Phyllis’ hand. And it seems to be a way for the show to be able to bring her back at one point. With all the ties in GC, Phyllis has no reason to leave town. So I guess we’ll see her slip into a comatonic state. However I still can’t believe how Sharon is written and which part they let her play in Stafford’s exit. It’s a big disappointment and Sharon talking to Cassie again and again and again doesn’t make the story better. Noah still needs a storyline. After this awful girl left, he seems completely lost in storyline nirvana. He gets to serve drinks or speaks to his parents. Robert Adamson is pretty talented. That should not be wasted. Nothing new when it comes to Lily and Cane. Since this regime took over they tease pseudo problems for this pairing but nothing ever seems to come of it. Are the writers so afraid that the Lane fans could cost them their job? LOL Log in to Reply Dyllan July 25, 2013
Adam and Jacks sudden Father/Son relationship? (Ashley will have something to say about that)
Totally agree! When I saw the scenes with Adam counseling Jack, I was thinking “what is this lame ass doing around Jack and when did they become friends?” IMO, Stafford’s send off could have been worse. She could have been killed off.
I am sorry but if Dru went over a cliff
EXACTLY! How is Stafford’s sendoff any worse than VR’s? Did Stafford deserve a parade? No matter how Stafford left, viewers were not going to be happy. Log in to Reply tunabeard July 25, 2013 Did not know that Michelle Stafford was a “Scientologist”… Log in to Reply dannyro July 25, 2013 This doesn’t bother me at all after Dru’s exit. My only regret is that Christine wasn’t there to kick Phyllis while she was down. Log in to Reply NathanHastingsSr. July 25, 2013 This show is awful. I found myself screaming at the Tv when Victoria was trying to threaten Chloe and Chelsea. Heinle is terrible! Log in to Reply pjc722 July 25, 2013 I’m really confused at the lame exit for Michelle stafford that I think we are not hearing the full story of why the actress suddenly decided to leave the show. Was it a situation of not liking story that was coming, actrors being hired, animosity with the new top crew of the show? Jill Darren phelps? Could Victoria Rowell really be coming back? I keep saying it. Why aren’t they recasting the role that is central to this pivotal story? We spent weeks watching nick and Phyllis being written at how worried the revelation of not being nicks daughter would be for the troubled teen so the writers will write that dear old mommy … The troubled teens only support team other than a cupcake from auntie Avery… Falls into a coma? It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to deduce Phyllis will be whisked away by Daniel to a hospital near his home. Michelle stafford gave her all to the show for many years and deserved better story. BUT I will also say that Y&R AND US FANS deserved better acting then what Michelle stafford gave us over the last few months. She definitely came in, read lines, went home. (And I love her as an actress and person) I like jacks friendship with Adam. Sure Adams past deeds are a lil issue but I will never understand why we still bring up what Adam did but forget all victors misdeeds, Victoria’s, Nikki’s, nicks philander crotch, Chelsea’s baby scheming (basically the same thing Adam did), Chloe’s SAMEdeeds, michael and Kevin’s EVEN MORE DASTARDLY DEEDS, along with all of jacks past. Move on is what I say. It’s good to see a friendship Ina show like this. Can’t wait for the team retribution against victor. No Dylan is a great show. Log in to Reply tmac July 25, 2013 Oh soapjunkie, you really need to check big words before you use them. There is no such word as comatonic. I think you were aiming for catatonic state, but even that would be wrong. A person in a catatonic state is awake but in a stupor. I believe you meant Phyllis will slip into a coma. Noah is lost in storyline nirvana? Nirvana is a state of total bliss. If I understand what you are trying to say, you mean the exact opposite. It would be more appropriate to say Noah is lost in storyline limbo, which means he just exists until something (or in this case, someone) else comes along to give him purpose. But I think they are going to take a little time doing it. Sometimes, they do it immediately, but then other times they *send the character away* for awhile before they bring in someone new. Look how long they took to replace Heather Tom/Victoria. They also took their time recasting Ashley Abbott years ago when Eileen Davidson first left. Log in to Reply angrierblackerman July 25, 2013 While I think the story is rubbish, I have more of a problem with Sharon being the one to take Phyllis out. On her worst day, Phyllis would NEVER be bested by the likes of Sharon! Too bad they killed Diane Jenkins, because that is one of the only women in GC that I thik could have taken Phyllis out. Or HeatherTom-Victoria. What the hell happened to Sharon? I used to think she was the only woman in GC with a bit of sense! Log in to Reply Richard July 25, 2013 This is what Jill Faren Phelps does. She destroys a show with horrible storytelling and kills off the veterans in a way they can’t come back. Just wait. This is just the beginning. Log in to Reply Blue Skies and Palomino Ponies July 25, 2013 pjc, I like the Adam/Jack friendship, too. The Adam character only works for me BECAUSE we do see these things about him that are redeemable or even admirable — otherwise, Adam would be a caricature. So I love watching him with Nick & Victoria, but I also love watching him with Jack and Chelsea. I also had to laugh at Victoria in her awful Cache dress playing Traffic Cop of Genoa City, telling Adam not to go to the hospital. Kept watching her, wondering: “Is she playing drunk? Seriously, is she at a benefit for Nikki drunk now that Billy didn’t show up?” But I guess she was not drunk, just disheveled and kind of obnoxious. Log in to Reply pferrando July 25, 2013 I don’t think the story is bad at all. I know I’m in the minority on here. And the story isn’t over yet either. My only gripe is the way it was filmed. YR usually has the slo-mo shots for this type of thing. If I fell like that…I’d look back up from the bottom and laugh at myself. Since Daniel is coming…there’s more to come folks. Someone else mentioned on here that it seems when the writing is slow…people complain…when it’s crazy like MAB…people complain. So let’s just chalk this one up as one of those two. Log in to Reply Amtronic July 25, 2013 I hope for a single scene, where Christine answers the phone, listens, then makes a cup of tea and sits down. Then smiles. Log in to Reply RebeccaJ July 25, 2013 my biggest gripe about the phyllis departure is how STUPIDLY it was executed. We’re supposed to believe that Nick and Avery came out that door and didn’t see Phyllis laying there or Sharon kneeling there? Gimme a break..and then Sharon was able to gather up her things and leave unnoticed?! Majorly STUPID. Log in to Reply TraceyAbbot101 July 25, 2013 Well, keep talking to ghosts… that’ll get you every time! Log in to Reply SZima July 25, 2013

Adam and Jacks sudden Father/Son relationship? (Ashley will have something to say about that)
Totally agree! When I saw the scenes with Adam counseling Jack, I was thinking “what is this lame ass doing around Jack and when did they become friends?”
There is nothing sudden about Jack & Adam’s friendship. Adam was the one to help Jack cover up the death of the prostitute and they have been friends ever since. I like the friendship because it does show Adam’s kinder, gentler side. I am hating the way Michelle is being written out. Hopefully she will fully recover and then leave for a better reason than this, and leave the door open for MS to return, or re-cast the role. Plus they (i.e. Phyllis) have GOT to settle this paternity crap sooner than later. Isn’t it bad enough that this has hung over our heads for (supposedly) 18 years? Move on! Log in to Reply Yoryla July 25, 2013 SZima, On the contrary, I think the writers’ whole MO is to have the only person besides Sharon who knows the truth, Phyllis, to be in a coma and not be able to tell anyone, so that they can drag this out for at least the next six months, if not a year. In fact, I think the writers are patting each other in the back complementing on what “good” storytelling that is. Log in to Reply tedew July 25, 2013 It is hardly likely that Phyllis is ending this way. Maybe, but I highly doubt it. Anyway … they kept the hair on her head after brain surgery for some reason other than to just die. I still hope that Summer continues to be Jack’s daughter and somehow what Sharon did is all in her imagination. Most of those Newmans don’t deserve any happiness anyway. Victoria this week has degenerated even further and I didn’t think that was possible. Maybe she and Billy do deserve each other because the way they are behaving right now to each other and to others is despicable. But I just can’t stand AH’s whiny simpering “performance” and take on her character any longer. Log in to Reply tmac July 25, 2013 The really stupid part of this story is the emphasis on Sharon leaving her lipstick behind. Hello, public buildings like this have security cameras in the stairwells so the whole thing would be recorded on the server. Even without the cameras the owner of the lipstick should take 5 minutes to identify; Sharon’s prints should be all over it and her prints are on file from the numerous times she’s been arrested (shop-lifting, killing Skye, faking Victor’s death, etc etc etc). If they want to continue Sharon’s secret then the simple thing to do is have Phyllis in a coma for a few weeks, recast the role with Robin Christopher, and when she wakes up she has no memory of that day due to her brain injury. Then in a few years when they need story Phyllis can remember it and bust Sharon. Log in to Reply hey mon July 25, 2013 Why ever bother saying a wrod? She is the most interesting character on right now, and Red is slipping in and out of a coma. Log in to Reply pferrando July 31, 2013 Amtronic…I agree. A Christine scene would and should be part of this story with Phyllis. After what Phyllis did to her, and after she got away with it TWICE…ANY reaction “the bug” would have, would be priceless. Another lost opportunity for this writing team. Is anyone keeping score? Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
