Jill Farren Phelps Reveals Who to Expect at Kay's Funeral on The Young and the Restless

Get ready to finally say goodbye to Genoa City’s no-nonsense, grand dame, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). On Sept. 3 and 4,The Young and the Restless will broadcast Kay’s memorial.

Several fan favorites will return to take part in the highly-anticipated episodes, reports TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan. Lauralee Bell (Cricket), Tricia Cast, (Nina), Michael Damian (Danny), Adrienne Frantz (Amber), Patty Weaver (Gina) and Beau Kazer (Brock) will all be on hand, along with Cooper’s real-life son Corbin Bernsen portraying Father Todd, who will officiate the funeral.

Showrunner Jill Farren Phelps stated:

Katherine knew she was dying and made it clear she didn't want a sad event where everyone wore black and was miserable. She wanted a celebration and that's exactly what she's getting.

In true Katherine form, secret letters and the details of her will are set to rock Genoa City for months to come. According to Phelps, Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) letter from Kay will lead to a new plot for the popular heroine,

one that will haunt her character and pull in many players as we go into the fall. It's a real front-and-center story, the kind the fans have been asking for. Jill's letter sets up a mystery that will, at first, drive her absolutely crazy. Paul's letter from Katherine tells him to 'Follow his heart.' Christine also gets a letter but I can't talk about that one just yet." Victor's letter is also a big secret — but that's because he's not going to share it with anyone.

Will the whole hour be dedicated to this funeral? I hope so. Where is Thom Bierdz? She loved him on and off the set!!!

It's great to hear that all those loved favorites will be back. Actually more than I thought. Yes...Phillip should have come back too, and Mac and Chance, but having their parents there will help address those absences.

I DO hope that we see more of Nikki and Jill because of Kay's death.

Hearing Phelps talk though, I don't place much faith in anything she says since she's been caught in about 20 lies or so already in her previous interviews.

It sounds like a great tribute. I cannot wait to see the new set.

Well, this all *sounds* pretty good. Let's just hope it plays out the best way possible. Although I have quite little hope for the Nikki front.......

Most happy to see Amber!!!

Guess I can't figure out why ALL should not be there. This should definitely not be like the typical society events, weddings or funeral in Genoa City where impossibly low numbers attend. This would and should be a major event.

Still hope that Victor manages to maintain some decorum when it comes to Jack and his newest feud he just can't shut up about right now.

Mac, Phillip 3, and Chance should all be there even if they have to be played by day players. Just sit their azzs in a pew.

Why did Y&R need all these months of planning to get Nina, Christine, Amber and Brock back? I was expecting them to gather as many characters that were still alive as possible. Katherine’s faux funerals were better attended.

So the major plot coming out of Katherine's death has to do with Nikki? Don't tell me it centers around Steve Burton as her son. The surprise DNA reveals should have to do with Kay not Nikki. I don't connect Dylan as Nicki’s son and Katherine’s funeral at all. Shouldn't the major plot have to do with the actual Chancellor family and Chancellor Industries?

Please NO MORE Dylan.

We already know he will bid on, and win, the contracts to build "Chancellor Park".

Wait a minute. I just read this interview more thoroughly, and what is this "Chancellor Park" they are going to build??? There is no need for any parks, keep the damn Chancellor Mansion up and running with Jill helming it up and have her offspring and their mishaps move in there with her!

"The new park with a PLAQUE for Katherine where everyone can go collect their thoughts"? I'm sorry, what does that mean. A park with a name slapped on it means nothing to people.

Also, the comment, "the new story for Nikki is front-burner, exactly the kind fans have been hoping for" - wtf. When have you EVER known or cared what the fans want for, Jill? NEVER.

I don't trust anything this PERSON has to say.

IF Dylan the orange wonder turns out to be either Nikki's long lost son or Kay's family member, I am out the door.

oh, "Chancellor Park" will have a stream running through it and the next time JFP wants to "off" someone, the body will be floating down the stream and bump into Murphy as he sits in his fishing boat.

Yes, I can see Sharon, amongst others, sitting in the park near "Katherine's Tree" and plotting her latest tricks to steal Nick from Avery.

Took Noah all of two seconds to connect the dots today....

Some are reporting that Dylan is Nikki and Jack's long-lost son from the miscarriage of 1989.

That's interesting considering they made such a HUGE production out of the fact that the infant's organs were harvested and saved MANY lives. It was even a Y&R PSA about organ donation.

If true, it's a plot twist just as ridiculous and insulting as Erika Kane's aborted baby making a triumphant comeback.

Ive heard that allegedly Victor took a baby that was just recently passed, and switched that child with Nikki & Jack's, and gave the live child to the McAlroy's to raise. Now that Mr McAlroy is dead, the secret will come out.

They'd be SORAS-ing that poor dead baby by 20+ years if that's the case.

Crazy

I need to start writing these rumors down. The fans seem to have a more fevered imagination than any soap writer can ever dream of having.

(It makes me crack up when Angelica McDaniel gets all this negative blowback from fans on Twitter and she responds, "Thank you for watching.")

I hope that the listing of Thom Bierdz is an oversight! Because it would make ZERO sense for a character that was central to the Jill/Katherine feud not to be there. I am 99% sure Thom would jump at the chance to pay tribute to the actress.

And Mac?!

Seriously, out of the lot of the young cast Mac and Phillip are the 2 who should return for this event.

But Jess Walton is delivering her scenes with the gusto of a true professional! I'm stoked to see her airtime!!

yojoromo4469 ... so what makes poor Clementine Ford so much of a weirdo that she can't even appear at Katherine's funeral?

hey mon ... if what you posted in #17 comes true then that would be so very Victor and actually quite believable in context. Maybe this time he could make it to the great dark beyond. And again I say that hopefully Victor uses tact and decoration (is that even possible?) when he encounters Jack at the funeral because I just saw a preview where he is yet again spouting against him concerning dear sweet Summer.

Tedew...

So people complain about CK and AH as being bad actresses..

Ford was one of the worst recasts in YR history after Malcolm and nuKyle.

She can stay put. Let Brock give her a mention.

That looks like a good list. One of the 3 Macs (Mac is ONLY her granddaughter) one should be there. Phillip should be there. Chance should too but since the character and actor are in the service currently I get that omission. The one that would really be cool is Felipe - the one who saved Katherine's life and who was a true love of hers according to Jeanne Cooper's book. I'd also like Dina to be there and Pearl from the diner. Beer

If Dylan is indeed going to turn out to be Jack and Nikki's kid when I remember JACK MEETING THE KID WHO GOT SOME OF THE ORGANS from the dead baby then I expect my time in GC to wind down. Like what someone else said: it just smacks of when McTavish rewrote Erica's abortion to create Josh. Just " Muddy Storytelling" to quote Doug Marland.

Phillip, Chance, & Mac are MAJOR oversights for this memorial. Thom Beirdz & Ashley Bashioum should be in attendance. And, when it comes to Chancellor Industries, there should be one of the only two blood relatives left running that company. I don't want Cane or one of Kay's strays taking it over. Recast Chance, give him an honorable discharge from the army, and put him at the head of this family & company so the Chancellor name can carry on.

Steve Burton is 43 years old, MTS is 57, in human years.

I think Victors letter tells him that he is Tucker's father. I'm thinking that when Victor came to GC he had a roll in the hay with Katherine when she was a drunk, got pregnant and the end result was Tucker. That is why Victor is keeping his hush-hush.

If I read hey mon right, I think he was referring to the earlier, MISCARRIED baby of Nikki and Jack's. This was before the stillborn child whose organs were harvested.

But neither child could in any way be alive, unless there is a long trip through the muddy storytelling waters.

It's not possible. All this talk of Jack and Nikki's son is just silly to me. The organs were donated.

Plus, I thought this kid was supposed to have been from her younger years. I could be wrong, but didn't someone even say something about this being a possible kid Pre-Victor Newman...even Pre-Paul?

Or maybe she had a kid with Paul. IDK. I wasn't even born back then.

Jeez, I'm trying to visualize those scenes in which powerhouse actress Melody Thomas Scott has a tearjerking reunion with her longlost son and that son as played by Steve Burton displays the emotional range of a man getting his shoes shined.
