How positively VOMIT-INDUCING that CANE was the one to rush up to comfort Jill. Like no one else sitting there was willing to? And why was HE allowed to speak, but not Billy? I wanted to throw a brick at the TV when he was telling everyone that he *didn't tell his family about Kay's condition.* CANE, SWEETIE--THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT YOUR FAMILY.

Writers you can CRAM this CON MAN posing as a good guy down my throat till the cows come home. I will never accept what you are attempting to force feed me. EVER.

Remembering Katherine!? I thought that "celebration" was about introducing a new set.

It was nice seeing Amber, Nina, Gina, Brock and Danny again. I sort of liked Nikki and Jill bonding over Katherine's death.
I loved Jill's speech even though the flashbacks were totally off. Jill speaks about finding out that Katherine was her mother and flashbacks of the attic catfight are shown. A little bit weird.

Mac couldn't come because of "personal reasons"? Seriously!? Mac owes Katherine basically everything and she stays away from her grandmother's funeral because of personal reasons? Well guess we'll never see her again.

Where was Traci? No reason for Ashley not to attend? Or was there one made up before?

But nothing tells you to just forget the character you supposedly should remember like the wedding plans of Nick and Avery or the actual three minute wedding of Paul and Cricket. Her differences with Nina ... one look and all is forgiven and Nina is ready to stand next to Chris while she and Paul exchange their I dos!? WTF?

This wasn't about remembering Katherine. At the end of these two "special" episodes it seems it was everything but Katherine.

@Coffee_Junkie I could not agree with you more. They want us to believe that Jill's real son Billy would just stand there instead of going to comfort his mother. And where was the mention of Phillip? Kay thought of Phillip as her own and he's not there.

Unfortunately, the death of themost iconic star of this show was used as nothing more than a plot device.

This wasnt about remembering Katherine, it was about moving these crap stories forward.

This "park" was set up so Nick and the Cupcake have a place to say "I do".

The show is just unrecognizeable.

Extremely disappointing but I could have predicted JFP and JG would fuck it up. I did love the ancient clip of Kay and Brock.

these were my EXACT comments on a different thread that I posted yesterday.

It just makes no sense.

All we know is she was creamated.... guess we will have to wait for the reading of the will to see who gets the a$she$.

Yes, didn't like how Nina gets a whammy, and all she has to do it look at Cricket and realize that Paul and Cricket are "soul mates".... puke. puke.

I have a feeling Murphy's days are numbered. He'll go off on a fishing boat that Kay bought for him and we'll never see him again.

And would it have killed one of the Williams boys to mention their sister, Patty? Hell, even Jack should have asked about her.

I am sure she is waiting to bust out of that institution.

With the vets you can tell that there was no acting, but MTS, EB, JW, Kate Linder all killed it. I was happy to see Amber, but I do feel some others should of been there.

Where was Traci Abbott at? Was glad to see Danny and Gina there because Katherine their step-mother. I was happy to see Jill & Nikki doing some bonding, but why don't these two act like Nikki never married Jill brother back in the day?

However it was not a bad show-

soapjunkie88 ... not sure that your spoiler from episode two is all that fair to US viewers who do not get to see it until today.

But again ... I agree that Billy in the background being silent with a strange expression on his face bowing to Cane was rather strange. Billy had known Katherine since birth and Cane "impostered" himself into her life.

Yes, there were some missing characters and maybe one or two who should not have been there but not a bad "reunion". I'm just glad that the final images of Katherine were not overdone.

Magnificent Y&R today. They dropped the mike!!! From Jess Walton flashbacking and performance. To the intro, the music, lighting, acting and the surprise wedding, amazing.

I give it a C- and that's not good. MAB's fake funeral for Katherine should have been what they looked at and tried to replicate. There have been 4 different Mac's and one of them should have been there. Do I prefer Ashley Baushiom...absolutely but come on now I would have suffered through Clementine Ford one more time. Then there were some other missing folks...like Dina Abbott Mergeron (who grew up with Kay and John), Ashley, Traci, Sharon Newman (why she wasn't there is beyond me.). I could go on but I think I was as offended as everyone with Cane coming up to console Jill. Makes not one bit of sense.

I guess I should thank MAB for the 2008 funeral because I choose to remember that as the funeral for Kay.

Can't stand Cricket, but I guess we are stuck with her. Why did she even get a letter? Amber is there, but no Mac, Philip or Chance? Tucker they explained pretty well. But Mac's personal reasons-unless they have a storyline with that, it may be something. But I am sure that is the last we will hear of it.
Of course, they ruined Katherine Chancellor's character when her and Jill started along with each other.

It was an ok episode. I felt in my gut awhile ago JG and JFP would not do Katherine's death justice and so far I've been right. I do think they are trying within both their limited capabilities as EP and HW do put on a good show but Josh was never more than an ok writer and Jill is well...a black widow pulsar.

It was nice to see vets. That was the best part of the tribute. Especially Gina and Nina whom I miss desperately. Were they used well? Not particularly. They served as more filler than foundation. Gina Roma, who was almost always supporting during her time at Y&R, is much better defined and complex than the sad leads were given today. The big omissions were Phillip and Mac. There really is no sufficient excuse for why they were not invited back. Those two characters were interwoven into the very nature that was Katherine better than Kevin, Chloe, Amber and the ever polarizing Cane. Even Avery, who barely shared any screen time with Katherine, was allowed a seat at the service. I'm surprised Dylan didn't show up to announce to everyone that he had built the park. JFP said in interviews leading up to the memorial shows that these episodes were for the fans. I believe she believes that but her agenda is always front and center. Also was anyone else put off that most of the flashbacks were from the past five years only? Sad! For newer viewers these episodes would not paint Katherine as the powerhouse character she was. Perhaps they chose not to show older clips because classic Y&R would shine a light on itself on just how bad things have gotten?

I agree with other posters that watching Cane go up to comfort Jill while no one reacted to it was nauseating. Why does every writing team insist on protraying this douche bag as a hero when he is clearly nothing more than an anti hero? Probably the most obnoxious part about Cane is how the writers dumbed down both Jill and Katherine in the process. These character, as developed by Bill Bell, wouldn't piss on Cane if he were on fire after all he has done. Including duping the both of them on several occasions. But under less imaginative writers and producers anything in GC goes. I guess because they are all on board with forgetting who Cane is we are supposed to be on bored with it too? I said it before and I will say it again, Cane was the most interesting to me when he was bleeding to death on the church steps. It was my, Thank God moment with Cane. That's what you should do with poorly visioned characters who are cancerous to the fabric of the show. Eradicate them and allow the healing process to begin. Y&R needs A LOT of healing!!! But it will never happen as long as the shows motto is, "repeat past mistakes."

I tweeted to someone the other day that they make it sound like she couldn't be there because she was having her period.

I have to wonder though, why on earth did they have Paul & Christine actually get married since Paul is on the show and Christine is not? They are going to have a "blissful" off-screen marriage? How lame is that?

Lots of negative being posted, but I am grateful for the two episodes.

I agree that Phillip and Mac probably should have been there as well, but they were at least mentioned.

I believe the big omission was Traci.

I think the Cane reaction is a little bit of an overreaction. He was hardly on at all. And it was a hug people.

I loved the last scene. Very touching.

So now what. The will reading will be interesting and I hope it gives an indication of what's to come.

Were the episodes perfect? No, but I actually was dreading them. Wasn't disappointed at all.

I have to admit I stopped watching Y&R in the late 80s/early 90s. But like a relative you haven't seen in a long time, you still keep up by the occasional letters/email. In my case reading about soaps (here). I started watching during the Traci, Danny & Lauren being in college or was it high school(I forget). Lauren was so mean to Traci for being overweight. I still remember Traci (her best friend Stephanie) when she put on a bathing suit! I was so thrilled for her! But the triangle was great. So yes, it would have been perfect if Traci was there. I remember Paul and Andy (Gerald Ford's son) being Danny's managers(they worked at a restaurant before Paul had his detective agency). I watched the fantastic tribute in May to Jeanne Cooper so naturally I had to DVR the goodbye to the Duchess. I read Jeanne's book and how she took Lauralee Bell under her wing. She felt it was unfair that some actors (mainly Terry Lester) thought she was there because of nepotism (being Bill Bell's daughter) and always was very protective of her. It was great seeing Nina and yes, I wish Philip was there. The actors were showing their true emotions. Eric Braden gets alot of flack sometimes which he should but Jeanne had alot of respect for him. She adored Doug Davidson, Jess Walton and Melody Thomas Scott. LOL and knowing she had a little affair with her tv son Brock was kind of cool. What gave me chills was seeing her son Corbin Bernsen. Good Lord is he is mother's son!! Those eyes!! Jeanne may have been a great actresses but she ADORED her 3 children: Corbin, Collin & Caren. They were her pride and joy!

A hug that Jill should have received from her REAL SON. Not some con artist who wormed his way into the family and in record time managed to get the old lady to hand him her keys to the kingdom when she was clearly having issues with her brain. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if she left him her ENTIRE estate in her will. We'll know soon enough.

I would have preferred to watch Jill fall on the ground in a crumpled mess, than see that FRAUD rush up there to hug her. Give me a break.

Sorry. I think it's an overreaction.

The character of Cane is written as though he truly cares for both Jill and Kay...and has more than demonstrated that.

I too think it will be a bit much if he does "get the keys to the kingdom" and I'll cry foul at that point.

But this...it was part of her Memorial and not out of line.

IMO of course.

Don't know I haven't watched today's episode, it's waiting...

This I came to expect, I knew it wouldn't fitting, but look who we have\had writing & producing the show. I hope I'm content with today's episode, I know I can't be happy but the first episode was not chest tugging...it was clear yesterday this gesture to "use" a great character was more for plot of story for others, I smelled some of that yesterday. Sad Sad

I will decide later when I watch. I the know this should drive new story but lets have the greatness showcased about Katherine a last time full of flashbacks, not just from '05-'10. Has anyone else noticed the flashbacks...the majority our from LML & MAB period and very, very few from Bill's era...shameful.

I guess we must be getting a new set as from the posts today, this isn't what we need but money spent on capable writers. Tired

I love that everybody ALWAYS remember the best of times when someone passes on, yet Devon is actually remembering how bad he treated her when he found out she was his grandmother. Very realistic, b/c we all have regrets...

Magnificent Y&R Today! I will agree with a few of you all. Yes, the whole Mac situation was rather dismissive and laughable. Today's episode was great though. Yes Traci should have been there but the budget was already through the roof. It will remain on my DVR for a while due to the fact that the intro was excellent, Cricket saying she did not want to overshadow the memorial was sweet. It was a great home going for our beloved Mrs. Chancellor. The ghost was beautiful and as fans we need to know Maria isn't coming back and this was a great version for the shitty regime we have been given. Kudos to CBS, Sony and the JFP, Josh G. crew. Jess Walton you did the damn thang.

I have to say I liked the episode because it was a slow build up to what I am hoping with be a week worth of nostaglia!

And y'all know that I am one of the toughest critics out there on all soaps!

I liked the new set a great deal. It's definitely better than the new ranch or the boulevard.

But glaring for me was Jack remembering John and not being given any more screen time then SILENCE. When we saw John standing in the foreground I thought when we returned from commercial Jack would be talking. (Still have to say WHY does Jack seeing John not make him as crazy as Sharon seeing and talking with Cassie?! but I digress)

Where was Gloria?! If we have Kevin and Michael there, Gloria should have been there to add some PANACHE! I know the actress is working on other projects but I still feel somehow her absence could have been addressed.

Mac not coming?! Seriously?! I am tired of them mentioning Reed coming and NO arrival (months ago) and now personal reasons keep Mac from the funeral?! There were 3 or 4 actresses who played Mac, we don't need the last one for flashbacks. We just need one of them!

Philip is the MOST glaring absence along with Chance. Both characters were integral to dynamic of Jill and Katherine for years and not to see either at the funeral is a misstep. Granted, we know there is a promo for a 'surprise' guest so hopefully it is one or the other.

Lastly, I have yet to watch the episode today but I hope that the letter Paul got was a bit more profound than Murphy couldn't find Paul. To make it a plot point no matter how minor and to deliver nothing more than "you were like a son" is just silly and a waste of Doug's talents, to say the least.

oh yeah, I called out Cane embracing Jill instead of Billy but for the past 2 years Billy has had as much interaction with his mother as he has had with a job lasting longer than a month. Another character who is integral to the Jill/Kay dynamic!

" Yes Traci should have been there but the budget was already through the roof."

Bobbyeww, how do you know that?! We were promised a show stopper for an actress who has basically been there from the start for this show. Steve Burton can be off screen for a month to allow Tracey, Ashley, Mac, Phillip, Chance and all the rest of the important people in Katherine's life to be there.

Even Avery could have stayed home to babysit Faith.

Sorry, but every once in a while a budget has to be blown up to give us fans what we want and if you can't then WRITE believable reasons other than "Mac can't be here because she got fat and can't find the right dress to wear when she has to see her husband's ex-wife's smoking body (but unkempt hair)"

Just saying.

While I know many actors were either not called back for this due to scheduling, Traci, Ashley, Phillip, Mackenzie, Tucker, etc could have been mentioned onscreen. Cane, Devon... SPARE me! Fast-forwarded through that hot mess!

Favorite part of both shows, was when of course, they were showing flashbacks of classic Katherine/Jill.

One of the scenes included the classic attic showdown which any longtime fan will remember...

"He used you...he used you like a COMMON. WHORE!" ---Classic as well as...

"Ugh your house is full of rats!

It takes one to know one!"

I was surprised they didn't include "classic" scenes of all the major players, many scenes were from the last 10 years... and frankly we all know how they've been on this show. Overall I was pleased, but I suppose longtime fans, myself being an avid watcher since 1991 will never be satisfied. I'm sure she was smiling down as it was being filmed.

Lauralee Bell did get her job due to nepotism. How can you argue with that? She certainly didn't get it due to her stellar acting skills or her drop-dead beauty.
