The Haves and The Have Nots Season Finale Scores 2.6 Million Viewers

Oprah should send her pal Tyler Perry a gift basket. Perry's soapy drama The Haves and the Have Nots pulled in a series high of 2.6 million viewers. The drama–which features soap grads Tika Sumpter, Peter Parros and Eva Tamargo–also earned its best rating among women 25-54.

Wow! That matches GH’s ratings that were published last week (2.6) and betters Days by almost 300,000.

    I’m kind of surprised.

I haven’t seen it, but I wonder what would happen if it moved more to a traditional soap format of every day.

You know Miss O is mulling all of it over!

This show is not very good, not at all, but it’s like a train wreck, you can’t take your eyes off of it. Haha! Good for Oprah and Tyler Perry and OWN…it’s definitely a soap opera.

I like the soap opera but some bad casting and John Schneider age really well to me.I think girl who play is love interest is to young looking to be his mistress and his wife is matronly looking that why he cheat on her but I tune in wend it on again

I’m sorry, I cannot agree with the show being trash AT ALL!!!! It’s better and more entertaining then majority of daytime right now!!!

Besides two glaringly bad actors, the show is great.

As for it going to the traditional soap format, I hope it doesn’t happen. Too much money, and if you think Tyler Perry’s sets look cheap now, just imagine what he’d do if that show aired everyday. While I definitely gonna miss watching it every Tuesday, I’ll just have to hang tough until season 2 starts in January.

I can honestly say, that if the show wasn’t good, BLACK PEOPLE specifically would not continue tuning in. They’d rather watch trashy reality shows then watch trashy scripted TV. I was watching a review of the finale show last night, and everyone person who called in straight up said Tyler Perry’s comedy shows are absolute shit, but when it comes to this show, everyone loved it.

I have six aunts who are BLACK (mixed race, actually) and I’m sure they’re not watching this shizz because it’s a quality program.

Anyway, I agree with others about John Schneider. He’s still a looker.[/quote]

LoL I didn’t mean only black people/all black people were watching it. I was referring to the black audience that actually tuned in for the show.

What does color have to do with this. I’m Black but that’s NOT the reason I tune in. Heck I watched 90210 for 10 years and there wasn’t one Black person on that show! I tuned in for Tika.

Well, except for the “Ashes to Ashes” episode. They made a big deal of introducing the new black neighbors at the beginning of the second season and it seemed like they were positioned as new recurring characters. But after that one episode, they were never seen again.

Are you saying that the woman who portrays the wife, Katherine I think is her name,is too matronly and the fact that she is matronly is bad casting? Or are you saying that regardless of her size and shape she’s the wrong person for the role? Or, finally, are you saying that because the wife is matronly that’s why John Schneider’s character is cheating on her ? I’m confused by the lack of punctuation and words that are missing letters in the post. If you are saying it’s bad casting because the woman playing Katherine is shown to be matronly, I disagree. Remembering back to John and Elizabeth Edwards, I can easily see them being models for these characters.

I don’t agree that Tika Sumpter’s character is too young to be the lust interest ( I REALLY doubt love’s got anything to do with it). Men in their mid-lives go after waaay younger women all the time.

    Once again. I’m black.

As for the point of this thread…I watched the show. I didn’t like it at first but then it became kind of addictive. Tika Sumpter is soooo hot. Like seriously one of the sexiest women I’ve ever seen. Everytime I see her-…well, let’s just leave it at she’s hot.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people that don’t necessarily like Tyler Perry’s stuff, but LOVE this show. Aside from the most idiotic, whiney, bitch of a character by the name of Jeffrey, I find the show enjoyable. Then again, I feel kind of sorry for Jeffrey at times too, so IDk.

    glad it’s a success.

Oh and I’m black :) I just like saying that in random places.

    LoL I’m black….

But when it comes to Jeffrey, I’ve gotta love/hate relationship. When people torture him about his sexuality and he shows that it hurts when his mother shuts him down at every turn, I really do like him.

But when he tries force himself on Wyatt, and manipulates situations to get Wyatt to fall for him, I get pissed off at him.

However, I think the actor, Gavin Houston, is doing an amazing job, besides that scene in the finale when he fell on the floor after Wyatt left the room and started screaming his name. Throughout this entire season, that was probably the stupidest shit I’d ever seen in my life. If I were Tyler Perry, I would’ve walked on that damn set, slapped the shit outta that boy and said, “GET YO ASS UP OFF THE FLO FOOL!!!” I think he did a bit of scenery chewing in that scene. However, he did redeem himself at the end in his confession scene with his parents when he came out.

Oprah’s fanbase is all over the board, so I’m sure the demographics of the folks watching are mixed as well.

If it’s good TV (trash or not) people are gonna tune in. So good for Tyler, Oprah, and the show.

I’ve watched a lot of train wrecks over the years. I loved Anna Nicole’s show…and watched every minute of Jersey Shore. With the exception of the Atlanta Housewives, I watch all of those as well.

    Love me some trash.

I’m white by the way with gay thrown in for good measure. I guess that makes me a “mutt”?

Since for some reason it’s become importantant to identify ourselves in this thread, let me just state for the record that I’m….

    ME.

Oh, and I have a still-very-beautiful white grandmother who immigrated from England, an Afro-American grandfather who grew up in the South, another grandfather who came from India, and another grandmother who came from Argentina and speaks heavily accented English.

    I’m white. And gay. :)

Now that that’s outta the way, I’m onboard with a lot of what’s been said about the show–it’s strictly paint-by-numbers soap opera, maybe just a notch above trash. But, it’s insanely addicting. Just when you think you can’t look at another cheap set, sit through the same two characters in a scene together for 15 minutes straight(the individual scenes on this show are LONG), or watch an actress yet again look like she’s completely and utterly lost during her line reading–I’m looking at you, lost-girl-who-plays-Amanda–a deliciously campy bon mot such as “Hello young whore” or “Bitch, get yo ass outta here”(both delivered with gleeful, icy perfection by Angela Robinson’s wicked good Veronica) falls seemingly out of the sky and you just have to smile. And the male eye candy here is significant–Aaron O’Connell(Wyatt)is one of the most stunning men I think I’ve ever laid my eyes on(and not a bad actor), Tyler Lepley(Benny) is gorgeous and I’ll echo everyone’s fondness for John Schneider’s still-got-it physical attributes.

Oh poor put-upon Wyatt! PLEASE! Wyatt is as queer as Jeffrey is, especially when you consider the choices he’s made throughout this entire “game” he’s been playing with Jeffrey. No straight man can be used and taken advantage of by some gay man unless he wants to be. When Wyatt first learned that Jeffrey was gay, he should have shut him down ON THE SPOT! But he didn’t do that. I wonder why?

Oh poor put-upon Wyatt! PLEASE! If he was so unnerved by Jeffrey’s behavior, he could’ve stopped Jeffrey in his tracks when he first found out Jeffrey was gay. Instead, he chose to play some sort of “game” with Jeffrey. One that he’s lost IMO.
