Charlie Hunnam Exits Fifty Shades of Grey Movie; Matt Bomer Fans Rejoice

One day you're in and the next day you're out. Oh wait, this isn't about Project Runway. Universal Pictures announced Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has quit the lead role of Christian Grey in highly-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts.

"The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hunnam dropped out because he became "overwhelmed with the attention he received from the movie and got cold feet."

Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James wished Hunnam well, tweeting:

I wish Charlie all the best. x

The news is sure to stir hope among Matt Bomer (ex-Ben Reade, Guiding Light) fans. At last count, the petition for Bomer and Alexis Bledel to be cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele was over 87,000 and counting.

The Today Show "orange room" cited James Scott as being in 2nd place as a fan choice for the role. While I never read a single page of the book, from what I hear James would fit, and could definitely pull it off.

I was just going to say that while I love Matt Bomer and White Collar, the absolute PERFECT person for the role is James Scott!! I don't know, however, if he would do the role with the nudity, etc.

Knowing the book it's still hard for me to think that there even is going to be a movie. The book is about the relationship between Christian and Anastasia but these sex scenes are important as well. How is a studio like Universal pulling this off?

Doesn't matter who plays the lead if it isn't doing the book justice in it's screenplay adaption. That would be my bigger fear. Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with Charlie Hunnam in the part. Jax Teller is no Christian Grey of course but with a change in his look and appearance I have no doubt that Hunnam could have pulled it off.

Bomer, though talented, is too old for the part. Christian was in his late 20s.

So far, I've stubbornly refused to read the book; but if they end up casting James Scott, I'll definitely have to watch the film.

Great now I have no reason to watch this. Whoo hoo! I love Charlie and was looking forward to seeing him this role which really isn't that different actually from Jax.
