Delia Abbott Fights For Her Life on The Young and the Restless (SNEAK PEEK)

The last three creative regimes at CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless have the blood of core Abbott family members on their hands, all for little more than temporary ratings stunts. Lynn Marie Latham killed off family patriarch John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). Maria Arena Bell iced granddaughter Colleen Carlton (a pre-Pretty Little Liars Tammin Sursok), not to mention perennial Abbott-in-law Brad (Don Diamont).

Now, showrunner Jill Farren Phelps (who has executive produced one show after another where core families were gutted beyond repair or recognition) and former head writer Josh Griffith have slaughtered little Delia, not only an Abbott, but the granddaughter of original character, Jill Foster (Jess Walton). Did I mention Delia is also the child of Kate Valentine aka Chloe Mitchell (Elisabeth Hendrickson), herself the goddaughter of Katherine Chancellor (the late Jeanne Cooper), whose death the canvas is still reeling from?

Sony TV and CBS Daytime signed off on the death of a child from more than one core family on this soap, so soon after the demise of Kay. Additionally, beloved firecracker Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) was recently sent off to Georgia with porridge drooling down her face.

JFP and Co. essentially were given the greenlight to crib from her near-identical oversight of Jake Spencer's death on General Hospital, complete with another ailing child in need of a transplant and an alcoholic step-grandparent driving on the same road the doomed child was on.

Hey, I said I was going to be positive about Y&R for a month, I didn't say I couldn't state the facts. Watch this week's Y&R teaser below.

Ive said it before, there is something sadistic about this writer. If she didnt learn from Jake and all the heat she got from that, then I have written her off as being someone with acute mental problems, and a dark heart. F her and he show. I will not watch her or it another minute. Thats not what I turn my TV on for. Does she think that picture above is entertaining. Too far.

Horrible, Horrible and Horrible. All the money spent on the rented Rovers should be spent on a new Exec. Prod. The only thing good about this is Billy Miller. The only thing good about the show is Sharon Case playing cuckoo for coacoa puffs.

Well according to the writers she was Delia Newman (rolling eyes).

Friday's episode of Y&R was one of the worst I've ever seen. Just all shades of bad. The fact that Jill Farren Phelps is allowed to go from one show to another making the same silly amateurish mistakes is the reason daytime lost so many good shows. This show is so bad. I'm over it. It's just sad to see it in this shape.

I love Billy Miller but I have to say his performance on Friday's episode was by far his worst. I felt no emotion from him at all. It was like he was sleep walking through the part. I mean it was Amelia Heinle bad.

I still don't buy that this was Josh's idea.

Whether he's a weak head writer or not, we'll never know since it seems he's had nothing but creative differences with Phelps since he started. I don't believe he's been able to tell the stories he's wanted without interference from her. Case in point...Burton and his front burner status.

The only way I'll believe it is to hear him quoted in an interview somewhere which has yet to happen.

Regardless, the story is bad. I didn't even like the Delia character much, but to kill the child of a legacy character is a lame attempt to shore up ratings. The thing is, YR's ratings have increased slightly over LY. They've been up in TOTAL viewers. Was Phelps afraid she couldn't maintain her own ratings without this shock story?

Kent and McDaniel will continue to bury their head in the sand as long as the ratings are "up". I think I've seen quite a bit of backlash all over about this story, so maybe the ratings WILL suffer. I hope not.

The GH Jake story still pisses me off.
A big part of it is Luke was DRUNK when he ran him down and never did any time in jail.
Only in Port Charles.
What a joke...

Curious. How far would ratings have to plummet before McDaniel and Kent would remove JFP from the EP position at Y&R? I admit I've only spot checked the show since she's been there. What I've seen is distressing to say the least. And I feel for the actors if they themselves don't care for what they've had to play and aren't saying too much about it... Innocent

The ratings NEED to suffer. It's the only thing that might get Phelps out of there.

And I don't believe for a SECOND this was Josh Griffith's idea. If anything, he was probably dead set AGAINST it, hence his ousting. Phelps can't have anyone in the way of her killing spree. I just wonder who's going to get iced next? Probably Jill ABBOTT, in a plane crash. We already know the Newmans, and DULLYN are completely SAFE.

That's just it. (But I don't want the ratings down which could jeopardize the show in the long run...Catch 22.)

They won't replace her unless ratings are down. MAB's ratings held pretty steady for years before she was let go.

I don't know if I can wait years for Phelps to go.

Like I did when Latham was at the helm, I may start to FF again.

I have to agree with how bad things are on Y and R and what is written above about the show. Too bad with have to put up with this idiotic producer Jill Phillips and her DYLDUMB/Nikki story. This is the dumbest story line Y and R has ever produced in my 30 plus years, and just to give one of the worse all time actors ever on this once great show. Too bad he couldn't have been killed off, in place of a young talented child actor, that actually knew more than one expression. Absolutely disgusting, and evidently something she already done on another show from what most are posting.

Aside from killing that little girl, any of us who watch GH know she also killed off Jake. Same way, mowed down by a car. My reason for giving this show up until that person who writes is gone is because I truly feel she is a heartless, dark person. Who is whispering these shit stories into her possessed ear? Sounds like Charles Manson or the Son of Sam to me. So here we have the Son of Sam writing for Y&R. Nice. Way to go CBS.

Precisely why I stopped watching this once intelligently written and
compelling soap. I got to the point where I fast forwarded through the
bulk of the episodes and realized that I was wasting my time. Until they
hire a top notch executive producer the likes of John Conboy or Ed Scott
and a head writer the likes of Kay Alden, this show will continue to
go downhill and turn into schlock. So, sad as I am to hear about the
destruction of another child, I'm afraid that I won't be watching the event or the aftermath. John or Ed & Kay, come on down!!!

I flipped over to Y&R during a commercial break today and saw these tragic scenes being narrated by an inane voice-over from a character barely related to what was happening and then I realised...they were shoe-horning Dylan into this s/l, too.

And Adam, just recently suspected of sexual assualt, is now going to be suspected of vehicular homicide?

Luckily, commercial breaks are over quickly and I went back to Salem, lol.

Again, while I do not like watching a child die, it is real-life. I do believe that Days went even worse than this with the raping of a priest!

You've finally done it, Jill Phelps. You finally ran off a 25 year viewer of Y&R.
Hope you're proud of yourself.

As I posted in a previous thread, I feel that this could have been a better and more sympathetic story had Delia suffered a relapse and passed away (since it seems that someone from the Abbott clan always has to make the ultimate sacrifice to save someone fro the Newman clan).

I don't like this version at all. I also don't buy that Adam would not have walked around his vehicle since it seems he hit something hard enough to knock a piece of glass out of one of his lights. Nothing indicated a bang of any substance at all. As it stands he had no reason to believe anything other than that he just avoided hitting a silly runaway dog.

Adam never ever had a single possible chance with those two selfish leeches that are Victor/Nikki spawns right from the get go. So ... we are going to have to put up with whiny Victoria beaking about Adam every chance she gets and with Nick doing the same with his mouth or with his eternally clenched fist. Victor will have ammo to spew his mindless threats to both Adam and Billy. And everyone else in between.

I so hope that this whole story somehow goes in a different direction. A direction that we might totally not expect.

I watch TV for entertainment purposes. Nothing about this storyline is entertaining in the least. I have nieces "Deliah's Age". Friday's episode left me nearly dry heaving.

If I wanted to watch something on TV right now that brings my insides lurching, it would be the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS.

I'll keep myself updated via DC's website, but I'll be taking at least a 6 week break from Y&R.

This is disgusting and JFP needs her fucking head examined.

That is all.

GOYANKEES - i am so glad you said that. I have twin nieces Delia's age and that was all I thought about. I am doing the EXACT same thing as you. Keep updated with the show here on DC but wont be watching it, Wow you talk just like me. she does need to have her head examined. How can she even smile for public photos broadcasting her soap. What a disappointment.

Thanks Gio, Kay's death was hard enough (can't blame that writers on that, I know) but this is all too much.

And I know the message here is 'in an instant", but I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER leave a 4 year old in a car ALONE at NIGHT!! DOG OR NO DOG!

Horrible...

Knowing JFP, it will probably be Nikki who hit Delia. Just watch.

"I can say I am really excited about the stuff that is happening on Y&R. This is a big week story wise, and there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes. I am just really excited for us in the coming months as we begin shifting story to really start having more well-rounded balance of family, relationship, humor, and shock and sadness."
- Angelica McDaniel in her interview with Michael Fairman; published last week

Everything is great. Y&R is awesome. Yeah they killed a kid. But it will give the actors such amazing material for next year's Emmy Awards. Delia was a legacy character. And? Who cares?
It's another big loss for the Abbott family after John and Colleen. But it's great for drama, right? Look at the Quartermaines. Fans still miss them. Why not let them miss the Abbotts too. It makes people want to watch our show on a daily basis, right!?
A child is killed. That isn't depressing. People are entertained by it. It's exciting! All is well at CBS and Sony.

There is a petition out there to remove Phelps as showrunner of Y&R? Why? Because she hires people she knows?
"... I want to say, even if Jean was a FOJ, because Shelly Altman was and is, the reason people are “friends of …” is because these people are really good at their jobs. I love to hire people I know sometimes. I have a couple of them who are working with CBS Daytime that I worked with before because they deliver, their excellent, and their team players, and so they are part of the team."
- Angelica McDaniel in that same interview.

Y&R is going to be awesome. Who cares about the people online. Who cares about all the complaints on message boards and social network sites. Y&R is still the number one show, right!?
Lets talk again if that changes and then MAYBE we are thinking about the possibility of changing the creative direction. Well if there still is time then. Right!?

Wink ;) Wink

Good bye Delia, we luv ya.

The good news... is that this stuff keeps The Rose story-line off of the screen.

How is that worse?

The Days story was organically told with characters who were written as being true to who they are. Also, the "victim" there was an adult who was not deprived of his life. Why don't we ask little Delia Abbott who came off worse?

Wait... WE CAN'T.

I peeked in today for about 15 minutes, I just can't watch this tragedy, 1. Killing of child for plot reasons only, 2. Delia is tied to a legend of a character in a big way, not only Jill but John Abbott, their grandchild it's shameful.

I'm sure Billy Miller is doing a outstanding job in the acting department and this isn't the problem, the vets have been spinning gold from this god awful junk that has been written & produced lately on YR, but it's the cause & effect for purely stunt...MAB had stunt casting, now we have JFP stunt ratings stories...UGH! Angry

I want to sign this petition...Who knows where to locate the site?

Although I did not want Delia to die, I have to say, it was done well and Billy Miller has been excellent.

Yes Y&R is not great at the moment, but it's a trillion times better than the crap B&B are putting out.

He was thinking with his dick instead of his head. He just had to get Vicky her damned ice cream. Victoria's incessant pussy whipping has caused a child her life.
