Radar Claims One Life to Live Star Being Investigated For Rape

One Life to Live actor Sean Ringgold could soon have a real-life soap opera playing out in court. RadarOnline is reporting the Superior Court of New Jersey has started a grand jury investigation into allegations of rape against the actor.

The bodyguard-turned-actor has allegedly been accused of sexual assault by an unidentified woman. Ringgold, a former bodyguard for Tom Cruise, Queen LatifahLL Cool J and Ludacris, went on to forge an acting career, starring as Shawn on OLTL and appearing as Suge Knight in the 2009 Notorious B.I.G. biopic, Notorious. Ringgold denied the woman's claims to the website.

Quick, a star is accused of doing something wrong, with no proof and no actual action happening yet. Let’s make sure we get it on the news feed!! Who cares if he is completely innocent, or she is just trying to shake him down for money, he has been ACCUSED. That makes it news!!

Why does every news/media outlet have to make headlines over stuff that has nothing to it, and could be completely wrong? Duke Lacrosse anyone? When he is convicted, or some actual evidence is made available to the press, then its news. But the fact that someone said something and now someone else MIGHT charge someone with an alleged crime that they still have to prove happened is NOT news. Its just gossip, and not the good juicy kind, but the kinds that can ruin lives and careers of innocent people.

(Yes, I did watch last week’s SVU, so I am a little overamped about this topic).

You do see the words “alleged” in our post? You also do see that Sean denied the accusations, and that’s in our post?

    When he is convicted

Right. Because all media is going to wait until a conviction to cover a story.

Why does every news/media outlet have to make headlines over stuff that has nothing to it, and could be completely wrong?

Because it’s NEWS and we’re the MEDIA. No where does it say we believe any allegations, this is a blog covering daytime news. Here’s a question, why do you read news and media blogs if you don’t want news and media coverage?

@Scooter Smith: If you are “a little overamped about this topic” like you say, maybe you should “unamp” yourself and not read it? We report the news, we don’t make it, dial it back. :)

I absolutely agree that this should be reported, but it’s up to us–as media consumers–to judge it. As of now, he has been accused–just as Erika Slezak has been–and he deserves he benefit of the doubt, just as she does. He’s in the same boat. How do you prove you didn’t rape someone or that you didn’t use racist slurs. You can’t. You can only judge by their character (especially since the courts are too often useless at doling out justice).

I knew a teacher who was accused of abusing a student, and his career was nearly ruined. 20 years after his exoneration, he has gone on to be a model teacher, but there will always be that doubt in some people’s minds. I hope that doesn’t happen to Sean, if these allegations are proven to be false. It’s very sad that anyone can make an accusation, and it can ruin someone’s life.

If he’s guilty, that’s another story. If he’s innocent, I hope we can wipe this from our brains.

First thing I thought when I read the teaser was, ‘Money hungry b- is after his money’. Am I right? Don’t know…all the facts aren’t in yet. Shoot! None of the facts are in yet!!! And when it’s all done, is it gonna affect my life in any way whatsoever? If watching a TV program is gonna get you “a little overamped” about 2 real people you’ll most likely never meet, maybe you need to put down the remote and back away slowly from your TV set.

Why was the photo switched out from the one used earlier of Mr. Ringgold in a suit? The current photo doesn’t present Mr. Ringgold in the best light. It looks more like a mug shot, hence, suggesting his guilt.
@Fox Crane: that would be true if there were rumors of SR being investigated. He actually is.
I’m not addressing an “alleged investigation.” What I’m addressing is that
it should be referred to as an “alleged rape.” I feel that phrasing should be used, and especially at this point in time during the investigation, since the alleged victim currently gets to remain anonymous while SR doesn’t.

And @TVGord: The verb “Claims” as used in the headline, doesn’t refer to the alleged crime. It’s used here to describe what Radar is doing.

It’s only reported what happens on the matter. Don’t see anything being wrong with the headline.

It’s not a lie or something.

IT’S A FACT that he is investigated for rape. And it’s not like the headline reads “One Life to Live star guilty of rape”.

And further it reads that these are “allegations” and that Ringgold “denied the woman’s claims”.

@Jamey Gideens – I’m kind of with Nysam. I understand the photographer doesn’t want the other photo used. Ok that’s his right, however do you posess a more flattering photo? I guess that I’ve noticed some unflattering photos of many people on this website, but this one bothers me that much more because here he is being accused of a horrific crime, and posted above the article is a photo of him looking angry. I believe the photo currently being used is probable a still shot if him on OLTL or another show which has nothing to do with his current situation, but it just feels a little insensitive.

Look, whether we put a picture of him dancing the tango or one in a suit,he is still reportedly being investigated. We aggregated the content from the site that broke the story. The fate of his investigation does not rest on the One Life to Live screencap we use at Daytime Confidential.

Misogyny is a hell of a drug. It is so powerful that it fools people into believing that all women are money hungry b’s after a man’s money and that rape never happens…

You are right. Regardless of picture, the fact that he is being investigated isn’t going to change. My position and post had nothing to do with the language of the post. I understood that the rape is alleged. I was just asking for a bit more sensitivity regarding the picture presented for a couple of reasons:

    1. For decades and centuries, African American’s have been portrayed as angry, lascivious, overly sexual, and hostile savages. Have you ever seen “Birth of a Nation”? What is a more hostile, angry, sexual situation as rape? He looks angry in the photo. I don’t believe this is the intention of either the article or the photo but I hope it just brings a little understanding to my and perhaps others’ comments.

    2. I’m not so sure that if this article had been about him singing and dancing, that same photo would have been used. I could be wrong, and I’m more than happy to be.

    3. There aren’t any other photos of him that could be used? I am first to admit that I don’t know how this business works, but there aren’t any other photos of Shawn Ringold available that could be used instead?

    Just my two cents.

The people of DC already shared with their readers some time ago that the access to photos are very limited. The photographer asked that his photo of Sean Ringgold gets removed.
I doubt that Jamey or someone from the DC crew would intentionally use a bad picture of him to present him in a bad way. Not everywhere we look are racists.
