HomeTVABC DaytimeTristan Rogers Tweets Happiness About Y&R Return; Praises General Hospital’s Cartini Jamey Giddens November 16, 2013 ABC Daytime, CBS Daytime, General Hospital, The Young and The Restless 29 Comments Tristan Rogers returned to Twitter on Friday to tweet about his upcoming hop to CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless. Said the veteran soaper: The actor, who had been recurring on General Hospital in his signature role as super spy Robert Scorpio, also tweeted praises for showrunners Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati. Tweeted Rogers: This is high praise for Cartini, considering Rogers has a history of being very vocal when he feels Scorpio hasn't been written and/or executed correctly. Are you excited to see Rogers reprise mobster Colin Atlkinson in Genoa City, or are you ticked he's leaving Port Charles behind? Sound off in the comments! 29 Responses nysam November 16, 2013 Obviously the GH storyline wasn’t great enough to keep Tristan from jumping ship for Y&R and neither was the money. Log in to Reply SoapsRHere2Stay November 16, 2013 CBS and ABC is in a nasty war of snatch and grab. Emme Rylan anybody? Then Rena Sofer on BB. Now Tristan Rogers back on YR. ABC usually tends to win these things. Baby let Killer Miller go so he can come on as Dillon Q on GH! I’m calling Victoria Rowell as TJ’s never seen mother on GH coming to a screen near you LMAO! Gina Tagoni as Sarah Webber ect. LOL I hope ABC actually snatches CBS wig for taking TR! Robert Scorpio is a legendary character on GH! I’m 24 and I know that well! So with that being said why do actors leave roles that made them household names for characters that will never matter. cough DYLAN SB cough. For real I’d love to hear what Cartini and JFP are saying about each other. That has more drama then Robin coming back, Delia dying, Bill falling off a mountain, and a sextape in the church LOL! BTW Marlena going to hell the end. Log in to Reply Peterascal November 16, 2013 While his initial return wasn’t good ( running off before Robin’s funeral ), Robert’s subsequents returns were the Scorpio I remember. Log in to Reply liason4real November 16, 2013 Genie Francis is a huge part of why GH was not cancelled during Monty’s reign and she can’t even get a contract or stay longer than a few weeks. I wish TR well, but Laura/GF has earned the right to be a lead on GH and is constantly MIA! Log in to Reply testadoda November 16, 2013 Just when I am watching GH everyday. Enjoying it .Boom We don’t see the Scorpios. Why doesn’t tptb give contracts to the vets that the fans will watch. I have trouble with Genie and Tristan being so free. I can’t blame Tristan for going back to Y&R. They wanted him they made sure he knew it.He has to have bills to pay and a family to support. Well All I have to say is looks like I have to DVR so when Robins reunion is not on.I can skip the show. The one thing I hate are the mobs and NOw we get two. We also get three OLTL actors who it looks like they have well paying contracts. Log in to Reply RealityCheck 33 November 16, 2013 ABC ought to go after Michael Muhney. His good friend Maura West is now on GH. I’d bet she’d love to help bring him on-board and screw over Y&R after she was hosed by those morons. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 November 16, 2013 I’m happy that TR was happy with Scorpio’s latest storylines. And yeah TR is one of these actors who would tell people if he thought otherwise. Hopefully after his Y&R stint, Rogers will be returning to GH once more. Log in to Reply pferrando November 16, 2013 He’s probably thrilled at the thought of getting off Cassidine Island. Log in to Reply J Bernard Jones November 16, 2013 Tristan Rogers was available. He got a new/going back to an old job. He compliments folks in charge at his old job. The folks in charge at the old job have to write him out, but the show goes on. The folks at the new job are glad to have him, and their show goes on. Put down the pitchforks, folks. Log in to Reply kaizer_beau November 16, 2013 GH’s loss is Y&R’s gain……….for now! Log in to Reply pumpkin November 16, 2013 Steve Burton was hired by Phelps who kept him in forefront at GH for years. I guess she has need to prove he is all she thinks he is. I also think the remaining soaps are filming in a way that the actors who stay can also do other things. At least some of them. I just think that the remaining soaps want to keep the current fans so they are hiring popular actors in the daytime industry. The hope is that fans will follow actors for their new characters. Time will only tell on that. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I did not watch GH when Tristan was on so I do not get all the Tristan love. I guess he is popular with fans since he shows up on different shows. Log in to Reply rxscorpio November 16, 2013 Wow, Yoryla, figured it all out already. You should be president. Nice going. Log in to Reply GHFan777 November 16, 2013 I wish TR well, and I certainly understand and agree that you go where the work is….BUT I am really bummed over this news. Robert Scorpio has always been one of my all time favs. I wish they would have let TG leave and concentrated on keeping TR instead. Log in to Reply pferrando November 16, 2013 He wants to come back to GC where all the action is: The steam room at the Athletic Club. Log in to Reply Yoryla November 16, 2013 Well I’m always going to choose Robert Scorpio, and of course there’s the fact that I don’t watch Y&R anymore. I only liked Colin because of link to Genevieve. I mean, the guy was a crook, that’s all really. There was no way he would ever have worked with Jill in the long haul. He would have had shady dealings and mistresses and ex-viwes popping out of the woodwork every three months, LOL! And this new, shiny, “big”, storyline Colin is supposed to have now – I mean it’s pretty clear isn’t it? He is going to charm his way with Jill, turn out yet again to be a lying bastard, and then exit again, all in the probable apporiximity of six months. How is that compelling or advanced storytelling? After that he’s free to come back to GH again, so there’s that. Log in to Reply samIShot November 16, 2013 Again with the questions about hiring the vets full time. 1. Maybe that’s not what they want 2. ABC has GH on a limited budget – before anyone talks about the bloated cast, there is a reason for it. These people are getting WAY LESS MONEY than the Genie Francis’s want. Example is Tony Geary. They want him working more to earn his money and Valentini has hinted that Luke’s days can be numbered if he doesn’t change his vacation schedule. Log in to Reply GHFan76 November 17, 2013 That’s the downfall of not contracting the actors. Tristan does have an affection for his Y&R role and loves working with Jess Walton from what I’ve read. I say good for him. Can’t help but smell a JFP-rat though. Either way, Tristan will always be Robert Scorpio to me. Hopefully down the road we’ll see him back! Log in to Reply liason4real November 17, 2013 ABC probably has a limit on the number of “older” actors that their willing to place on contract. Yes, it sucks, but I don’t see it changing in the future. Log in to Reply robertscorpio November 17, 2013
Again with the questions about hiring the vets full time. 1. I hate to see TR go but I fine with the way the show handles the vets. Keep some vets that are front and center and keep some that show up on the screen from time to time. I don’t want GH turning into a retirement center. Log in to Reply nysam November 17, 2013 @liason4real…..good point about the older actors on GH. Besides Tony Geary and Jane Elliot I can’t think of anyone played heavily on the show over 60. Back in the day there was a diverse group of ages. Even when they have the opportunity to cast an older actor such as Julian who should be 55 to 60 at least… they hire a guy in his 40s. Remember the days when there was Edward, Lila, Mary Mae, Audrey, Steve, Gail, Lee, etc. Seems like the new regime is a bit ageist. Log in to Reply bren November 17, 2013 i’m happy for tristan, hopefully he’ll get paid right and proper usage of his talent. majorly sad for me though since i’m a die-hard gh fan! hopefully they filmed the reunion scene with him and robin already or i’m sending hate mail to cartini for stringing along so many vets that he’s wasting opportunities. tons of great returns but with very little payoff…. Log in to Reply TV Gord November 17, 2013 Back when soaps focused on older characters, so did the mainstream entertainment/media. Back in the day, it wasn’t uncommon to see Lucy, Jack Benny, George Burns, Red Skelton and Doris Day on the cover of TV Guide. Today, it’s rare to see anyone over 50 on the cover, let alone anyone over 60. So, soaps aren’t existing in a vacuum. They are living in today’s age, not the age of decades gone by. I like the new up-and-coming characters (yes, even Sabrina). They are tomorrow’s vets. It wasn’t that long ago that, say, Jason Thompson and Kristen Storms were newbies. Today, they are established actors in daytime. Who knows? Maybe in a few years, Teresa Castillo and Bryan Craig will be, too. People who dwell on those bygone days of soap history conveniently forget that those days had their share of newbies who went on to become vets, too. You have to give new characters a chance to catch on, but too many posters on social media refuse to open their minds to the possibilities. To me, they come off sounding like Grampa Simpson complaining to the networks that they allow too many off-color words such as “bra” on their airwaves. As for Tristan in particular and vets in general, I like that they are using their recurring status on one show as leverage to get themselves a better deal on other shows. It’s cool to see that they can make themselves more viable in this climate of one network’s soaps trying to one-up the other. It’s healthy competition, and that makes all of the shows–and the whole genre–more viable. While I hate to see Tristan absent from February sweeps on GH, I’m happy to see he’s not being tossed aside like an old shoe. It shows that daytime does value its veteran actors, after all! Log in to Reply Dyllan November 17, 2013 Uggghhh….why are the writers returning to MAB storylines. This will just give Cane more airtime. Most of them were supporting most of the time, they were usually supporting their children’s storylines, like the case is now. I don’t think it’s ageist in the way that you mean. But also, it is true that the times have changed, and if these people’s bosses demand of them younger people, what can they realistically do? I mean, if your boss asks you of something, you don’t really say no, do you. Also, I think the salary might play a bigger part in it aswell, I mean, these people aren’t inexpensive, they have earned their salaries, but still. There’s always a budget, and it’s a pretty significant thing if a certain amount of money can pay two people instead of one. Losers. Log in to Reply pjc722 November 18, 2013 While I am happy Y&R is hiring back an extremely talented actor I am just not sure why it has to be for the role of COLIN. Seriously, the character was extremely flawed before and just never jelled with the characters on the soap. Why bring back a character of Colin when there are a host of characters on the soap who hate him and force the viewers to have to watch him try… in vain… to be accepted?! I just don’t get it. We just had Hillary, who is connected to Cane, begging for forgiveness and a second chance not only from Cane but Jill and now we have to have Colin return? Why? Besides Cane and Jill, Neil, Lily, Devon and a host of other characters hate the man. And we will have to listen to Victor threaten him and eventually Jack becoming partners with him. Why not just create a totally new character with the actor AND even give him the same exact storyline that they plan for Colin. 1 step forward for this soap and a hundred back!
We must have been watching a different soap. I thought he jelled with EVERYBODY! Certainly more so than any other newbies who have been forced down our throats over the last few years. I thought they should have gotten rid of Genie Francis before they did Tristan. “Genevieve” didn’t jell with anybody, including Jack. Log in to Reply Soap_Stud November 18, 2013 I have never watched a soap because of a specific character or actor. I surely have my favorites and don’t always agree with why shows write out characters or actors, but it never keeps me from watching a soap. Tristan Rogers is a talented actor. I enjoy Robert Scorpio, but I liked Tristan on Y&R too. He made a decision and I respect it. On GH, they have several recurring actors, and while that works for ABC and how they write the soap, it also opens the door to actors leaving relatively quickly, like in Tristan’s case, since there is no contract in place. I am sure Ron and Frank will handle Robert’s departure with class. I am sure Tristan will do great work on Y&R. GH will certainly go on without Robert and Y&R might just be a little brighter with Tristan back on the show. Log in to Reply ANGELWENDY15 November 18, 2013 I like Tristan the best as Scorpio. His latest return has been great and loved the scenes of Him and Anna in the lab and how they figured out how to get out. Very clever, like the old days of Scorpio and Anna. GH and Y &R seem to be playing soap tag. Is it about money and budget? Either way, you can’t blame Tristan for taking the role with a contract. He’s an actor and has to go where the work is. Hopefully he’ll add some excitment to Y &R, the show has been so depressing. I’m almost sure, eventually, when the story calls for it, he’ll again return to GH as Scorpio.
