HomeSpoilersPromos & PreviewsAbby is in Peril on The Young and the Restless (SNEAK PEEK) Jamey Giddens January 22, 2014 19 Comments Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) should consider hiring a bodyguard. For a chick with $500 million in the bank, she gets into an awful lot of jams on The Young and the Restless! On Wednesday's show, the human link between the warring Abbott and Newman clans gets locked up sans her cell phone. Gloria (Judith Chapman), however, has perfect reception — as in a wedding reception for Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Leslie (Angell Conwell) on the brain! This explains why celebrity nuptial ninja David Tutera is in town. Meanwhile, Dylan (Steve Burton) and Avery (Jessica Collins) continue on "The Path" to enlightenment about Ian Ward (Ray Wise). Watch a sneak peek of Wednesday's Y&R after the jump! 19 Responses RealityCheck 33 January 22, 2014 What dreck. This is just crap. All hail Agent Orange! Since Melissa Ordway took over the role, Abby has mostly floundered. Not her fault, it’s definitely in the writing. Her current storyline with Tyler is snoozeville. Now the inclusion of this Mariah person just makes matters worse. I’ve yet to read anyone say they care about or buy that these 2 are in love. Peril only works when the couple for which you are trying to create havoc for have the audience on their side. Tyler and Abby have no rooting value. They’re boring. A third person in this tasteless dish doesn’t excite me. The parts of the show I am enjoying are the final moments of the Delia story. Stitch and Kelly are interesting characters. Also looking forward to Jill/Colins story. The business aspect i’m on the fence with. I love me some Jack and Victor but their never ending feuding about who’s granddaughter is whose and blah, blah, blah is showing major signs of aging. I’d reintroduce the epilepsy aspect of Victors past back into the equation. Victor needs to have some humanity injected back into him again. He’s not an easy character to root for and every good villain should have rooting value. Not just be an ass. Overall Y&R is still hit or miss for me. A few weeks back I enjoyed the entire week and got overly excited that the show had turned a corner. Then the following week I was bored watching Dylan/Avery talk for the 500th time about their great love (Zzzzzzzzz). Tyler/Abby carrying on with their sleep inducing relationship. Devon with his “woe is me” I’m a billionaire and still whining. They whole Carmine mess with that stupid non threatening cake sent to Fen and yet another child in peril story (Summer). Y&R is improving slowly. I do recognize and appreciate the efforts. Im hoping it continues to get better sans gimmicks. The show was always strongest when writing thoughtful interpersonal relationships. Not forcing people together or throwing gimmicks at them just to make them interesting. Log in to Reply hey mon January 22, 2014 Forget about Abby and Tyler, or Dylan and Avery. Want to see Kelly and Stitch and their messed-up totally effed-up lives. Lets have Jack doing something ‘real’, as well. Log in to Reply al0792 January 22, 2014 I have been a huge supporter of this show in the past but my goodness this show sucks. It is time to drop Dylan (otherwise known as Dumb). I know that he is Jill’s friend but come on SONY.. You must read the boards and everyone’s dislike of him I am sick of the whole pace of this show. They replace a blogger for a stalker Made the GCPD look like stooges.. in the shows hey day when ever the police were involved they were all good at one they did.. They have Paul and the rest of them acting like Keystone cops. as a 30 year viewer I hate to say this but I am about to stop watching the show. Log in to Reply bobbyew January 22, 2014 Gloria looked great! Glad Abby dissed the brotha and his ex-fiancé’s shenanigans. She can continue to stay at her mansion her daddy left her. Avery and Dylan even hitting the sheets was boring. Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon January 22, 2014 Dyldavery = Dannifer = Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Their correct squish name would be DYLAVERY, but that sounds too much like DELIVERY, which they aren’t doing much of, so….) Log in to Reply pferrando January 22, 2014 The show is definitely 50/50. I too think it’s improved, but it still has a long way to go. Not working: Abby/Tyler. Or really just Tyler. There is no pairing for him. Cut him. Dylan/Avery. And his ties to Ian. Don’t care. It’s Nikki/Paul’s story. Cane/Lily working at the Athletic Club. Where’s this going and why? Working: Denouement of the Adam/Delia story. Stitch/Kelly Bonaventure story and possibly the tie in to Chavez/Courtney Baldwins/Womack/Carmine. This one still works for me over a year later. Paternity story (if Sharon really didn’t fix results) I’m also excited to see Glo back on screen, and the return of Colin IF it means JILL gets a solid story on screen. I also like the “new” Hilary. So lots of promise…in fact more good than bad. But they need to wrap up those that most people say aren’t working, and continue to draw out the stories and layer the ones that are. I am like this person, a 30+ year viewer and I am able ready on January 31 to give up on this once fantastic show. I agree wholeheartedly about DYLDUMBO. The Delia and Carmine stories are way overdue on a finish. Anything to do with Abby and Tyler is like watching paint dry. Could not, in my wildest dreams believe Abby would be involved with this dirtbag or move into that dump. The whole show is at an all time low. Log in to Reply david46208 January 23, 2014 I’d say a Cane/Lily/Tyler/Hilary/Mason/Devon/Leslie/Neil storyline would be more interesting. Has Hilary had sex with both and Mason and Devon. Then get pregnant and pass the baby off as Devon’s with Mason’s help so they can get at his billions. When Neil becomes suspicious about if Devon is the baby’s daddy, he takes his concerns to his son who believes Neil’s bias against Hilary is clouding his judgement. Neil warns Hilary that she better not mess up Devon’s life over this child. He also takes his concerns to Leslie, who promises to get to the bottom of things. She then enlists Tyler help to work his playboy magic with Hilary to see if he can get to the truth as she befriends Mason with the same goal. As Leslie works to pry information from Mason she finds herself feeling taken in by him and after a night of drinks ends up having sex with the man. Meanwhile, Tyler almost succeeds in manipulating Hilary into telling the truth by pretending this entire time that he has been secretly plotting against the Winter’s. After the sexual experience Mason reveals to Leslie that he knows what she and her brother are up to and blackmails her into calling off the whole ordeal. Tyler wonders why Leslie has decided to end their plan to expose Hilary and she covers by saying that she believes that Devon is really the father. Later, she expresses this sentiment to Neil. Neil meets Tyler at the GCAC and expresses his concerns about Leslie’s sudden change of heart. Yet, Neil thinks Leslie’s womanly instincts are right. Mason and Hilary toast as he reveals how he has neutralized their enemies. And Hilary wants to have fun with the power they now hold. Later, she has Mason call Leslie to meet him at the GCAC to discuss something important or he will tell Neil about their night of passion. When Leslie arrives, she sees Hilary instead of Mason. Hilary let’s Leslie in on what she knows and informs Leslie that she is going to push Devon into wanting to marry Hilary or else she will reveal what happened on the night in question. Leslie takes a stand and says she will not be blackmailed into doing Hilary’s bidding. As Neil won’t believe Hilary or Mason. Then Hilary pulls out her Smartphone and reveals a video clip of Leslie and Mason’s romp. At that point, a worried Leslie reluctantly agrees to comply. Leslie soon discovers that she too is pregnant. And considering the damage a baby would due to her relationship with Neil. Especially a baby that is not his. Plus, the fact that she does not want a child with a scheming man like Mason. So she decides to have an abortion. And sets up an appointment at a clinic in the hood. At the same time she talks up Hilary to Devon whenever she can. On the day of her planned abortion Leslie accidentally leaves her Smartphone at Neil’s place and an alert reminding her of the appointment pops up. When a curious Neils checks it out, he races down to the clinic to confront her before she enters. Leslie then lies to Neil when pressed that the baby is his and that she didn’t feel it was the right time to bring a child into the world. An Angry Neil goes off on her about his past with children from Dru’s secret about Lily to Sofia leaving town with his son. He implores her not to get rid of the baby. But Leslie insists it is her body and her choice and heads inside the clinic. Neil, then races off to the GCAC and considers taking a drink, but is stopped by Nikki who consoles him. Leslie later shows up and informs Neil that she decided to keep the baby. And allows him to think the baby is his. Mason and Hilary continue to plot their long term plans. Hilary will marry Devon and then divorce him later, taking a chunk of his income with her. Later, when Mason discovers that Leslie is pregnant (something he overhears Tyler talking about), he considers the thought that the baby might be his and contacts her to find out. Leslie assures him that the child is Neil’s. And not intending on having a child with her, Mason buys her answer, as he is too focused on the money he and Hilary will receive gain from Devon’s ignorance. Tyler is now feeling that something is way amiss takes his concerns to Lily. And the two unite to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. This sparks some jealously and concern from Cane who believes Tyler is trying to worm his way into Lily’s life on a romantic level. He takes his own concerns to Devon, who promises to keep a sharp eye on them. As Lily and Tyler work together to figure things out, sexual tension re-emerges between them. Meanwhile, Devon and Neil propose to their future baby momma’s while on a double date. Hilary accepts and Leslie is reluctant, but ends up saying yes. The foursome then decide to plan a double wedding with their friends and relatives present. Log in to Reply ChrisGa January 23, 2014 Pferrando, I think you hit a lot of it on the head with your post, particularly the three things that are most definitely NOT working. First, I’m not crazy about the current Abby–she’s written as just another dim, blonde cipher instead of the stubborn, headstrong yet slightly wacky girl MR played–but I’d appreciate her a little more if she weren’t paired with the show’s worst male character next to Dylan(not to mention suffering through the blatant non-chemistry between the two–I fast forward their scenes every time they’re on because I can’t do it anymore). Second, please remove poor Avery from the all-encompassing black hole that is Dylan’s orbit; I find Jessica Collins enormously appealing–I especially enjoyed the friendships that the writers have cultivated with both Leslie and Adam–but she’s just completely bogged down by Hangdog Burton and his one facial expression. I’m not saying make her the show’s female lead but I think they really missed an opportunity when they dissolved Navery because I enjoyed her with Nick. Third, Lane. I’ll make it brief…..I don’t care. And my own personal fourth–do something with Paul(and Cricket). Since becoming chief, Paul’s become a grouchy, curmudgeony asshole that I barely recognize; I’m not feeling the writing on that character AT ALL right now. As for the good stuff, I’m really loving Cynthia Watros and I want even more Stitch, Noah and Chavez(still think Courtney is either on parole and/or acting as a drug informant for him but I could be wrong). I’m liking the slow burn of Hilary and Devon(as opposed to insta-couple Abby/Tyler). And I’m actually enjoying the whole Summer overdose story because it puts pressure on Sharon to possibly do the right thing. So yeah, it’s not completely lacking in quality story right now but there’s still a lot of room for improvement and a lot of unnecessary baggage that needs to be eliminated. Log in to Reply pjc722 January 23, 2014 Courtney is an undercover cop. Remember, Chavez called her a different name. Very JUMP STREET, blah. (Personally, I hate drug stories on soaps where they go after an unknown drug dealer or drug gang in a fictional town because it allows rings hollow for me. No meat and pretty lame.) I like Courtney but would love to them write Noah as not being such a goddamn ASS! Seriously, his dumb sister takes drugs and he immediately thinks its Courtney who gave her the drugs instead of thinking “CRAP, my sister… who I have given little time and support to over the past year, has learned she has two dads, her mom is in a coma, she lives on her own at 18, has a best friend charged with murder and her ONE DAD is warring with her evil grandfather” and that’s the reason she possibly turned to drugs. Whomever Courtney is she should be saying “listen, LIL BOY, you are a spoiled little rich kid who thinks he can demand to know everything about someone in 30 seconds. AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN. And don’t ever EVER blame someone for something unless you have hard evidence. TWERP!” Noah, under this regime, has been turned into a aimless, spineless pathetic dope. As for Abby… I am over the people lurking behind you stories. It makes NO sense that this stalker was able to know when and where either Tyler n Abby would be in a short period of time. It makes no sense why Abby was even considering a tiny apartment with 500 million in the bank. It makes no sense WHY Y&R is rushing this story. LOVE that it’s Victor’s fault for Summer’s drug consequences and not Jack. Can’t wait for the tables to be turned on Victor for once. WHERE THE HELL IS JILL?!!! With calendars and schedules for the actors, the producers and writers should be able to tell 2 stories with the primary actors without having them disappear and creating a THIRD story. It doesn’t make sense and I am extremely disheartened if we don’t see Jill having a last scene with nuBilly befoe OLDnuBilly comes on the air. I am just tired of all this oversight … budgets whatever… with writers and producers and stories. Log in to Reply tedew January 23, 2014 david46208 … seems like a lot of wasted energy for post #11. ChrisGa and pjc722 … can’t say I disagree with most of your two posts above. I do not however really have a problem with why Abby would be looking at bargain rate living arrangements with Tyler. Of course it is not really all that reasonable and also of course the stalker of the day routine really has gotten out of hand and over used. yojoromo4469 … not really sure just what Tyler had done to be considered a dirtbag. Also glad the Delia mess is clearing up; just not very pleased at all as to just how it seems it’s going to be cleared up. A big huge cop out to my mind. Log in to Reply yojoromo4469 January 23, 2014 Tedew, I just find him very lacking in talent, have no desire to watch him and Abby. They are almost as bad as Dildo and Avery. I have watched this show forever and a day and find both of those male characters, to be among the worse ever on the show. I would rather watch paint dry than to watch either. They both have the same dull look all the time. Also 3 days of Dildo is too much for me. Log in to Reply tedew January 24, 2014 yojoromo4469 … I can’t really disagree with you but that still does not make the character (or the other one) a dirtbag. Log in to Reply harlee490 January 24, 2014 Kill Tyler off at the hands of Mariah…please this is such a snoozefest! Restless, you are so right MO has just flounder in the role and she’s a decent actress but this is coming from the writing big time. I have enjoyed Abby much better interacting with the Abbott\Newman families. Log in to Reply pferrando January 25, 2014 I like Melissa too, but I CAN’T STAND they way they have her whining all the time when she’s with Tyler. It’s just yuck, and does nothing for the strong character that Abby used to be. If Tyler needs to be on, I’m ready to recast. I think Bill Bell would have already done so. Yes, the actor is hot and has a fantastic body, but there’s nothing to root for with him. Log in to Reply ChrisGa January 25, 2014 ^^^Yes, Yes, Yes, recast Tyler or get rid of his ass. The guy is definitely hot but has the charisma of a rock. And I think Melissa’s a good actress as well but I’ve said before I don’t know if she has that sheer force of will that Marcy Rylan possessed to make this material work; MR had some pretty shitty stuff to work with and she still managed to make me love Abby. So far Melissa isn’t doing that. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
