NBC RENEWS Days of Our Lives Through 2016!

Days of Our Lives fans sitting shiva over news Alison Sweeney is exiting the soap, can cheer up some. NBC announced on Wednesday the almost 49-year-old serial has been renewed through 2016. In a released statement NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said:

Days of Our Lives continues to be a fan favorite for the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 50th season. Days has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively due to the hard work of the producers, writers, cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make Days the ratings success it is today.

Senior executive VP Programming for Sony Pictures Television's Steve Kent stated:

Having won the Emmy Award for outstanding daytime drama, Days of our Lives continues to deliver on its legacy of quality storytelling. We appreciate NBC’s continued support and are excited to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary with our generations of dedicated fans.

Long live the daytime soap opera!

Congratulations Days!

Whatever they do in the upcoming two years, they need to keep this writing team in place. The show is by no means perfect, but it is currently the best soap on the air.

The way this show uses its history and little details that seem unimportant and later turn out to be quite significant is just brilliant. Love

SCORE! I am excited that I will have my show for another two years. This is fantastic news, a consolation after the loss of Allison Sweeney.

YES, YES, YES!!!! I knew Ali wouldn't leave if the show wasn't going to get renewed. She would go down with the ship if it was being cancelled. There's going to be a 50th anniversary!!!! Laughing out loud :D

Days is the only soap I watch anymore. The other three got too (depressing, biased, tedious) for me. With the exception of Rafe & Jordan, I love all the storylines, even the Jafe story is being saved by Kate and Lucas' involvement.

I'm so excited about this! I've been a Days fan since my grade school days in the 70s! My Mom (RIP) was a viewer since the 1965 premiere and she turned me on to it. Days is currently my favorite soap, then I like GH, then the dreadful Y&R.

Congratulations to DAYS! Extremely well deserved! Crown

There was never any doubt for me. They were not going to cancel a show, on the brink of it's 50th anniversary, that has gone through a creative and ratings-wise renaissance throughout the whole of last year, 2013.

And Alison Sweeney leaving is certainly not going to make something like that happen. Frankly, talk like that is somewhat pompous and makes her seem more important than she is. Other and bigger actors have left the show before and it still hasn't been cancelled. It will go on and flourish without AS, as it did for 30 years before she ever came along.

Really happy for the show.

Days was a powerhouse in the 70's before it lost its way.

I know a lot of people like the James Reilly years, but for me it just dwindled into a plot driven mess.

I think they've found themselves again, and they need to keep writing what's working.

Great job!

So thilled. In my opinion, the best of days was the 60s-70s -- family driven story lines, 30 drama. When the 80s came along with the one hour format the storyies were more murder driven mysteries, kidnappings, and yes, lots of glamore. I do have many favorite stories from that time however. But I stopped watching when they got really depressing and gorry when they got into the supernatural stuff and when Alice was supposedly killed, that was it for me. That's not what I wanted in my soaps. I did follow the show in the mags and knew what was going on though. But, now, we are back to more family driven storylines, the use of history, love, angst, and yes even a supposed murder but its by far the best its been in many years. I have kept myself realitively spoiler free and am the happier for it.

Great news! I love Days, it's the only soap I'm watching anymore and it has been so good that watching it every day is a must.

I can't wait for the 50th anniversary! I hope they bring back so many wonderful vets from the past at that time.

I'm so happy!! I have watched since 1981, and the show is really cooking right now!! Love Eric/Nicole and EJ/Abigail. I miss Chandler Massey so much--don't care for nuWill at all and I will miss Alison Sweeney, but show is great and can't wait for 50th Anniversary!! maybe Peter Reckell could come back???

Days Trivia:

November 8, 2015 will be the show's fiftieth anniversary.

Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Olson Williams) is the most veteran castmember, having appeared on the show since 1968. The role was played by two actresses before her.

Agreed. When a show is this good, I don't mind a weak story like those two. Not only is the loss of ED's Kristen bearable, but I even look forward to Dr. Jonas scenes (haven't like him since I started watching a few years ago). He's good with JJ, Brady, Nicole, and Theresa.

Congrats to Days on the renewal. Time for the Days execs to start planning the 50th anniversary on screen bash for November 2015. I need to see as many former characters/cast members on screens as we can get for a big splashy story and celebration.

Oh God Soap...let me get that Soap Opera Encyclopedia out...

I saw 3: Original Carla Doherty. Then Catherine Dunn...and then Cathy Ferrar. Susan took over in '68.

Amen SoapArma!! these writers rock!! I am very impressed with them mentioning old things, such as Abby/Austin, Jack raping Kayla, etc. It feels like a real universe where past things would be mentioned. I will REALLY miss Ms. Sweeney, but I have a lot of confidence in these writers.

Judging by your screen name and avatar, you have no problem with people who commit adultery, kidnapping and murder, amongst a multitude of other various crimes, but it's a loving relationship between two consenting adults that makes you sick. Yeah, that makes sense.

And so, our agreement with matters was left at only the one.

What a stupid thing to say.

Congrats to DOOL. I love that the show has surged in the ratings, it deserves it. Writing is great and I am really liking the Abby/EJ pairing. At least this show has some hot stories (GH take note). With Kassie coming on I will start watching more, like I have with B &B, another improved show, thanks to Thorsten Kaye.

Guys, please pay heatherwebber10010 none of the attention the psycho bitch craves so desperately. It's like feeding caged animals at the zoo.

Nothing against Jamie Lyn Bauer who I love but I would really LOVE Susan Flannery to do a "pop-in" as Laura Horton when the show hits 50.
Are you listening Ken?
