Poll: Who is Crazier, GH’s Heather Webber or AMC’s Janet From Another Planet?

TV Guide Magazine caught up with General Hospital's Robin Mattson and Kin Shriner and chatted with them about Heather (Mattson), Scotty (Shriner) and Franco's (Roger Howarth) screwed up family dynamic. During the interview, Mattson was asked who was crazier, General Hospital's Heather Webber, or her former All My Children character, Janet From Another Planet.

TV Guide Magazine: So, Robin, who's crazier? Heather Webber or your character from All My Children, Janet from Another Planet?

Shriner: [Whispering into his menu] Or Robin?

Mattson: Kin!

Shriner: What?

Mattson: I may be crazy but I'm not deaf!

Shriner: Jeez….sorry. [He shrinks down into his seat and peruses the menu]

Mattson: And don't forget Gina from Santa Barbara. She was pretty out-there, too. Gee, I don't know who's crazier. That's a tough one. It's a close call.

Who do you think is the crazier of the two?

Poll: Who is Crazier, GH's Heather Webber or AMC's Janet From Another Planet?

Janet was the real crazy one. Heather was more manipulative, but boy have Cartini continued to do more damage to her character like the previous regime started when RM returned in 2004. I’m starting to think that the only way they can get Heather back to normal is by giving her an even bigger brain tumor than what Franco had…and I sure wish they do something so that the very talented RM is allowed to portray are more balanced character.

That was a good interview and as an AMC fan I have to go with Janet as the craziest character. I was also really disappointed when AMC brought Kate Collins back as Janet after Mattson made the role her own.

Also I found Shrinner’s comments about Ken Corday very interesting, its real sad that Corday “doesn’t get” a great actor like Shrinner but thinks Daniel and Rafe are male leads, that guy is completely clueless.

Well Mattson’s Janet got her sanity back , reformed and had a happy life complete with husband, child and friends (I loved her friendship with Kendall and later on her being BFF’s with Skye and Erica) at least until she was written as being nuts again offscreen as part of making the now grown Amanda sympathetic.

I didn’t mind RM as Janet–though I still preferred Kate Collins’ original run of the character–but SB’s Gina has always been my fave Mattson character. And yes, as Robin put it, she too was pretty out there, albeit in a slightly-less psychotic way.

Her Janet recast was handled perfectly. They used bandages over her face to give us a chance to get used to her and slowly recounted her pre-op history. I still remember Dixie yelling, “Murderer! Murderer!” at her, chasing her out of the wedding to Uncle Pork Chop. Classic.

Yep, have to agree here 100 %. Gina Blake DeMott Capwell Capwell Timmons, etc. was one of the absolute best characters on Santa Barbara ever.

I loved SB and loved her as Gina. SB is most likely the only soap that ever rivaled my devotion to GH.

As with Ilene Kristen playing Delia Ryan as suddenly inexplicably similar to Roxy from OLTL, Carlivati/Valentini are molding Robin Mattson’s Heather Webber into being more like “Janet From Another Planet” nutjob. Its as if its an end run to get around character infringement by taking a character GH can legally use and re-characterizing them as needed.

They are building GH up as the “Best of ABC Soaps” blended canvas using the Franken-Todd/Howarth method to have portrayers continue some of their fan-favorite roles.

Robin’s Janet was never the loony version that Kate Collins played though. She played the redeemed version of the character. Cartini are just continuing the version of Heather that Guza/Pratt wrote when the character came back in 2004.

Robin was genius as Gina, and got to do a little bit of everything. The various writers knew that Robin did CUNNING and a touch of comedy better than most, and they struck gold with she and Justin Deas together.

As i mentioned in another post, Ron is writing something more like a short attention span night time dramedy — NOT a richly layered, character-driven drama. It’s all gimmicks for the most part. That being said, i will gladly take the deeper moments when they throw me a bone!
