Log in to Reply harlee490 February 21, 2014 Great podcast and interview. I have to respectful disagree that YR is on fire, much better but not excellent. Just my taste but I don’t like the mob coming to GC, its to GH in style. Give me the throw down with Jack/Victor, love, love my Shick, I’m loving CG as faux Cassie/Victor connection just as long it’s not Daisy2. I will be upset! I’m loving MCE and fallout from Adam. Give her the Emmy next year. I can say I’m so happy DT has returned. DT & AH has some chemistry and can only get better. I’m enjoying Nikki\Victor scenes anytime, MTS\EB still has an ease with each after 30 years. I loving the Neil\Leslie dynamic & Hilary\Devon connection. I don’t like Dylan\Avery, Tyler\Abby, Noah\Courtney, Ian story, love Ray Wise but not in this story. They should had brought him in on arc story as Vance Abrams. I’m not feeling Colin mobster king….geez Chloe & kidnapping of Connor AGAIN…enough with this child. The rest of podcast was excellent and BB is the soap on fire on CBS, leave it to a Bell. The Talk I’ve been DVR the episodes I love those ladies and especially Sharon Underwood…”1-800-BlkMama” makes me laugh out loud, I would love to see her stand-up…she would be naughty. >) All the ladies have such great chemistry working together and have found their own unique blend that works. They proved they are not “The View” which so many compare TT to TV and they are nothing like them. Log in to Reply Coffee_Junkie February 21, 2014 VERY interesting. I love that she commented on Tristan and Jess! And it sounds like we have HER to thank for Nikki having MS? Boo! She needs to have a sit down with Eric Braeden and give him her *if you can’t say anything nice* speech, because he is constantly losing his temper and going off on fans. He did it to me in the days after the Muhney firing. Log in to Reply dewlove February 21, 2014 Hi All….I thought this was a great interview. I really like McDaniel and feel she’s doing a fine job overall. When the Twitter conversation came up, I wish someone would have asked about Greg Rikkart’s coming out, which could have brought up not only how CBS feels about out actors, but also her thoughts on gay storylines. Log in to Reply pferrando February 21, 2014 Pretty good interview… I have said it before, but I think that Margot Wain is pulling more strings than we see. LUCKILY, that means that while Phelps is EP…she is NOT making all the decisions, and THAT may be why we are seeing some life in the show. I like that she also gave Josh some credit for transitioning from Maria. I’ve always believed he was able to tone her mess down, and start repairing some things, even though he was tame. She sounds passionate and I think that’s important. Log in to Reply RealityCheck 33 February 21, 2014 Oh please, the “we are family” statement is a joke. These people are backstabbing Hollywood vermin. David Letterman always called CBS executives weasels. BTW, Braeden is out of control. His comments are vile and abusive. It really shows what kind of animal he really is. He definitely lives up to his reputation. Log in to Reply stoney07 February 21, 2014 TAME is the perfect word to describe Josh Griffith’s Y&R. I’ve been trying to think of a word to describe it. I actually didn’t find it boring AT ALL. I thought there were some decent story ideas…I thought the execution was actually very good. I thought the dialogue was sharp (sharper than now even)…but it was TAME. There wasn’t enough movement…there wasn’t enough action. There really wasn’t enough STORY going on. I think Y&R right now IS on fire compared to where it was. There are a ton of new things going on right now, and where it will lead remains to be seen. but for now, I’m really enjoying it. I think tptb gave curious viewers, lapsed viewers, or viewers of other soaps who just tuned in for the MM and BM farewell something to look at. So that’s a good thing. As for B&B…to me, it’s the same old same old. Every single story is a triangle of some kind. I find it entertaining, but I don’t hold B&B to the high regard that I once did. There needs to be some kind of ACTION on this show again. Good lord…when’s the last time we had a good decent VILLAIN on B&B??? Villains, as in PSYCHO villain? Morgan DeWitt was probably one of the last, and that was well over 10 years ago. I think Brad Bell is a solid writer, but now I think the stories are getting a little stale. I love Brooke/Ridge/Katie/Bill/Quinn as much as the next person, and I love that they are the central focus of the show again instead of Liam Hope and Steffy, but at the same time, I would love it if there were other stories going on as well. Rick and Caroline are boring. Carter and Maya are non existent and BORING. Oliver is just around eyeing Maya with no real storyline or focus. Donna and Eric are window dressings. Poor Thorne never gets love. I don’t even SEE the point of Ally right now. I just think a little more life should be infused in the show. I’m not saying the writing is bad…it’s just a little…predictable. Log in to Reply pferrando February 21, 2014 Stoney, I too think BB is stuck “in a circle” so to speak. I actually believe that with Kay A. no longer writing, you are seeing some of that effect. I also know that John S. writes an ep here and there according to the credits, but the writing is stagnant for me. The show is very pretty to look at, but they need to shake it up more than hiring a new Ridge who seems to “growl” every line. Log in to Reply bobbyew February 21, 2014 Yes, its stuck buts its delicious to watch . I go to LA often and this stuff is what bb is. Log in to Reply timepass February 21, 2014 Great podcast and interview. She seems like a very dynamic and interesting person. Log in to Reply really February 21, 2014 Y&R is what soaps are suppose to be. I had given up soaps RC killed any lasting interest I had in GH (I now consider it gone since he isn’t writing it true to history at all) but Y&R has kept me watching. Don’t get me wrong there are stories I don’t like- basically Lily and Cane (really I am suppose to believe that actress is playing the daughter of Shemar Moore and Victoria Rowell, nope sorry). I love Chloe and Chelsea- I think its such an interesting and soapy twist and EH is killing it with her performances. I mean she breaks your heart without needing words. MCE is doing great too, you see her anger, confusion, love for Adam, Chelsea and Billy. Fantastic story built off of relationships, and human emotions (not to mention great acting). Loving Colin and Jill- I am a big Robert and Anna fan and will say that I’d rather watch TR work with the lady that plays Jill over ES or FH. They are fun, have killer chemistry and I surprisingly curious what is in that music box or what he is up too. I don’t like Sharon Case at all. However, even feeling that way I am into her story. I like the chemistry and vibe between Nick and Sharon, I really want to know what this Cassie person is up too. And after today I am wondering if her shrink is involved. I will say though outside the Cassie aspect I like their handling of mental illness, it is respectful and not played for laughs. I know there is a Victor plot going on, but Sharon and Nick don’t so I like them showing her being honest, taking the “visions” seriously and a doctor adjusting medication. However, my favorite story is Niki and Summer’s story!!! I am loving this Ian guy and this is Niki’s & Summer’s story no one else’s. I honestly think it is setting up some great stuff for Niki and Summer (I do think Niki is going to be the hero here), plus her two sons, Paul, Jack and Phyllis (assuming they recast). It is also a great use of history. Mainly with Y&R I am loving the character interaction, the small scenes showing the connections between the characters and the bonding/random character interaction scenes that give newer viewers like me a clue on the history without it feeling random or out of place. I didn’t like what JFP did with GH, although I’d gladly take her back, but I do like her Y&R of course it feels nothing like her GH. Apologize for the long rant Log in to Reply bobbyew February 21, 2014 Lucky Gold as in Santangelo, I love it. A new writer at Y&R. Log in to Reply missmuffett41 February 21, 2014 I wish I could get into Y&R again. This Y&R is better than MAB’s tenure, but the storylines still seem like they’re headed to nowhere.Just a lot of plots thrown together to keep fans afloat until the writers can figure it out. Log in to Reply bobbyew February 21, 2014 ^^^Thanks Harlee its true just review the credits today. Mondays yr is gonna be bananas. Log in to Reply Nk3play2 February 22, 2014 LoL WOW!!! I definitely enjoyed the interview, she seems to really enjoy her job. However, it’s weird that we now realize that Josh’s continued destruction of Sharon was apparently deliberate!!! I feel bad for how we attacked him because it seems the higher ups had a bigger plan for Sharon then immediate redemption. Log in to Reply DenverDean February 22, 2014 What a great interview! I usually skip podcasts, but McDaniel clearly knows her stuff – not only is she a huge supporter of daytime, but also she understands and acknowledges fans (likes/dislikes). How refreshing that we don’t have a network executive that dismisses us? I like the way they have really promoted the entire line-up – even casual things like Victor giving Nikki a Forrester gown, the upcoming crossover with Rick/Caroline on Y&R, David/Heather on TT, etc. Honestly, I never thought I’d return to Y&R after the Sarah reveal, but I figured the new regime would need 12-18 months to move things around. I started checking it out a few months ago for an epi or two, but I really got hooked back in during the past few weeks, so I’m optimistic that I stick around for awhile. Log in to Reply jhs12 February 22, 2014 Well, that’s an hour of my life I won’t get back. I was looking forward to the milestone episode only to find out it was just made for CBS viewers. I guess the Days and GH viewers will have to wait for the 1,000th episode for them to be included, that’s just another measley four years. I’m sure they’ll both still be around by then. The least you could have done was list only Y&R and B&B in the tags so then I wouldn’t have wasted my time. Log in to Reply KAYJAY65 February 22, 2014 OK, here is my comment. I enjoy watching Y&R , BUT the last few weeks have been awful. Not only is the storyline dragging, but now the best main characters, BILLY ABBOTT AND ADAM NEWMAN are off of the show. DUMB DUMB IDEA ON MANAGEMENT’S PART!!!!!!!! I also saw where they may recast PHYLLIS. NO, NO,NO that would really be a stupid move. I don’t know much about this ANJELICA MCDANIEL, but from what I’ve seen so far she doesn’t know squat!!!!!!! Also, while I HAVE THE FLOOR, thet can get rid of COLLIN, IAN AND KELLY. They are all dead weight. Log in to Reply noway February 22, 2014 [quote=RealityCheck 33]Oh please, the “we are family” statement is a joke. These people are backstabbing Hollywood vermin. Don’t read further about Monday US if you don’t want to know ———————- Wow somebody on here cheerleads a lot. Monday showcases agent orange cupcake and Nick. I won’t even bother with the kidnapper and how Kevie shows up 10 minutes behind the other two who got there on a private plane one of them minus a passport. Who knew GC has a teleporter, not too mention breaking of national and nternational laws at will with ZERO consequences. What did you expect to hear, glowing reviews on GH & Days from her? Did you just want to make dig towards CBS’s soap because you’re not a CBS fan? Just because you didn’t get your way? I might have some minor issues still with YR but I’ve still been loyal viewer of CBS. I’m not saying I wouldn’t change my mind down the road because I might not be able to relate. Now, if YR goes back into ridiculous way stories, that’s a different scenario. But I have never stopped watching any of my soaps (9 months during MAB) because of actors coming to or actors that have left YR. e.g: even the stiff Ken doll made me didn’t make me stop. |( That’s is just plain silly. YR has made tremendous improvements in the storytelling compared to Josh’s being to timid & MAB’s farcical storytelling & LML it was a gawd awful period. :~ Log in to Reply luverica February 22, 2014 Good podcast but is it just me or is the sound not good? I have the sound turned up all the way on my Bluetooth headset and still have trouble hearing. Log in to Reply Restless Fan February 22, 2014 I thought it was a good interview. I think she’s certainly done an admirable job of boosting her entire line up in the ratings. That in itself is a huge accomplishment. I don’t always agree with the direction Y&R goes in (shootouts are so not Y&R), but I don’t argue the ratings are up. I relate to Jamey when he says he’s having a come to Jesus moment with the show and trying to accept it will never be that methodical, psychological Bill Bell Y&R anymore (a superior version any way you cut it). I have found the show very entertaining at times but I’m not in awe of it. I also agree with Angelica that a lot of people took Y&R ‘s #1 status for granted over the years. That was a nice way of putting it. Log in to Reply pferrando February 22, 2014 Restless, I agree too. I HAVE finally accepted that YR will most likely never be what is was under Bill. The only way I see that happening is if they put it back in Kay Alden’s writing and Ed Scott’s producing hands. So I am actually enjoying the show. I don’t like the hostage thing that much, but actually I was waiting for it to be more “cheesy” than it was. So much more improved in the writing aspect. Log in to Reply Divatude58 February 22, 2014 Business stories are dead and gone on Y&R. I have also come to accept it. That makes me enjoy what we have now alot more. Those that think Y&R is slow and dragging now are being ridiculous and dishonest with themselves. I have actually been shocked at how fast things are over the last couple of weeks. Considering the pace of Y&R historically, why even use those adjectives as a complaint for this show. Log in to Reply RealityCheck 33 February 23, 2014 Don’t watch Y&R anymore but by reading comments on various sites the consensus appears to be the original Billy has yet to fill Billy Miller’s shoes, which is no surprise. Steve Burton is front and center as the “new Newman”, which was expected. He still can’t act and he’s teamed up with the ultra-boring Avery. Chelsea still breaths heavy and the Chloe/Kevin lunacy persists. Victor mumbles as Jack fumbles. Oh yeah, Robert Scorpio is messing with Cane, Lily, and Jill. Silly stuff. Ms. McDaniel is a media spinner that makes her shows sound “fabulous”. That’s what she’s paid to do. Some people eat this shit up, others see through it. The beat goes on….. Log in to Reply jhs12 February 23, 2014 Nooooo, they’ve had other podcasts that were longer than an hour so there was no reason they couldn’t discuss what’s been happening on the other two soaps after they had finished interviewing Ms. McDaniel. Also, I must have missed the “dig” I made towards CBS’s soaps because I don’t recall saying anything bad about Y&R or B&B. I just wished that, for those of us who don’t watch those soaps, there had been more about ALL the shows in the podcast since they were “Celebrating 750 Episodes”. For instance, five soaps have been cancelled since the first podcast, yet the genre is kicking ass right now. That would have been an interesting conversation. I’m sorry that I wanted everybody included in he podcast, my bad. Had you used the FF button on the player (or better yet read the intro to the podcast itself) you would have quickly realized McDaniel would take up the whole thing. I don’t see anyone else complaining. Log in to Reply harlee490 February 23, 2014 Nothing you said was bad jhs12, but it did sound or I read it as a dig or maybe you had a little envy. If mistaken my bad. On this occasion it mark DC’s milestone & 7 years. All or who got this interview from the Vice President of CBS Daytime should be commend, proud and pat themselves on the back for a good job done. I surely didn’t see any other soap site having such a big wig to interview. Party On! This was a big accomplishment. :)  I’m sorry but GH & Days had nothing to do with particular interview. I have no doubt their will be other special podcasts coming from DC. It might be a milestone for GH & Days which the crew will do podcast strictly to honor those soaps. This would be only fitting & fair. Days 50th is coming up next year Log in to Reply harlee490 February 23, 2014 I’m loving BB right now with the introducing of Quinn was a breath of fresh air as RS. I’m liking the nuRidge and seeing TK having chemistry with both Katie\Brooke. I enjoy all the interpersonal relationships happening on BB same for Days right now, in that department are their strengths. It surprised me how $Bill\Quinn stuff is generating all kinds of heat….great chemistry between DD & RS…this could be a couple I might just like to see what develops.
