NATAS Reveals 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Pre-Noms!

The pre-nominations for the drama series acting categories for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced! The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) unveiled the list this morning.

Here's how the pre-noms were determined, according to NATAS:

"An online judging ballot containing all entrants in each of six performer categories was sent to registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained a randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips online containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category. Please note that the Outstanding Lead Actress category contains 12 prenominated performers and the Supporting Actor category contains 13 prenominated performers due to ties. Ballots were submitted directly to Lutz Carr, an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results. The candidates below who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon screening round, scheduled to begin on March 26, 2014, which will determine both nominees and recipients. All nominations will be announced May 1st."

Check out all the pre-noms after the jump!

Hopefully Sharon Case will get nominated. She has been given shit for years now and always delivers great material.
A nomination for Maura West would be great too. She took GH by storm last year.

Jane Elliot and Liz Hendrickson should get nominated. Darin Brooks and Blake Barris deserve one as well.

I don’t understand the age thing for the younger categories. Christel Khalil and Adam Gregory are both turning 27 this year.

Kinda sad to see that AMC and OLTL only get a chance in the younger categories. Don’t see any of them having a chance against Chandler Massey, Casey Moss or Hunter King.

I’m surprised Days didn’t submit anyone for supporting actress. At the very least I would think Judi Evans or Suzanne Rogers or even Deidre Hall. Just my opinion. I don’t think they drove the stories but they helped support them.

So happy to see the Days ones, particularly Eileen Davidson, James Scott and Ari Zucker, but also THRILLED to see Eric Martsolf and Greg Vaughn, both of whom have been tremendous and neither of whom has received enough attention for their talent. Yes, both guys are gorgeous, but both turned in powerhouse performances this year, and are both so deserving to be nominated, along with Eileen, James and Ari! Also Chandler, Freddie and Casey have also been wonderful–so good to see Casey Moss recognized his first year, as he is also extremely talented. Hope all 3 get nominations

Very surprised that Kirsten Storms isn’t represented for her work. Glaring omission from where I’m sitting.

And while I love LLo as an actress, even though I have difficulty with her character, I’m trying to figure out what she did that garnered her a pre-nom…. 0:)

I’m rooting for Kristen Alderson to get nominated and win again, just so I can watch GHC members’ heads explode.

Seriously, I also wish more OLTL and AMC actors had been nominated.

    Good luck to all.

Some interesting picks in Y&R’s camp. Biggest omission is Michael Muhney, who was the biggest lead they had last year. Under the circumstances I get it.

Jess Walton as lead? She barely had a story last year. Robert Adamson in supporting? What has RA really done since he was cast as Noah? The actor who played Gus had more story than him.

Really the only people I’d like to see get a nom from Y&R are, Sharon Case, Billy Miller, Elizabeth Hendreckson and Tracey Bregman. Y&R was not very good in 2013. Hard to get excited celebrating a sub par year.

I hope Sharon Case gets a nomination, too, but Case always gets the short end of the stick.

IMO, Eileen Davidson or Heather Tom should win for lead actress. I know posters hate HT wins every year, but she can deliver the goods.

    For lead actor, I’m indifferent.

EH (wasn’t MCE’s scenes after the deadline?) should get nominated for supporting actress. I can’t believe CW put her name in…I’m not knocking her acting, but she didn’t do much because she wasn’t given much.

Could BB’s Ally put in her Monday scene where she ripped Wyatt a new one? I’m not sure about the timing, but that scene was gold. If not, PLEASE DON’T LET KRISTEN ALDERSON WIN. That is my only wish.

I kinda hope Bryan Craig wins younger actor.

The following noms in my opinion must be a joke:

Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan) – seriously! Now what could she have submitted? Sex tapes? Because god knows that’s all she does. All the other female noms look ten times more credible than what she could have submitted. Even the questionable ones such as Jessica Collins, Finola Hughes, etc.

Shawn Christian (Daniel) – this must be a joke! Because seriously what could Shawn have submitted – tapes of the god awful Dannifer? If I were him, I would be embarrassed to even talk about what I do for a living.

Tracy Bergman (Lauren) – okay submitting the same stuff over and over isn’t really kosher. For instance, Sheila Carter tormenting Lauren. Sarah Smythe tormenting Lauren (ick this was the awful doppelganger crap). Daisy/Ryder tormenting Lauren. Carmine tormenting Lauren. Basically Tracy Bergman’s role on Y&R has been so typecast that no other storyline has been written for her in years. So why is she even bothering to submit is very strange – since it’s the same story over and over again.

Cynthia Watros (Kelly) – didn’t she just arrive like two minutes ago? What the hell could she have submitted? Sleeping with Billy? Group Therapy sessions?

Steve Burton (Dylan) – oh gosh, don’t get me started. This entire casting has been nothing but nepotism. And so far, his character is no different than it was on GH.

Darrin Brooks and Scott Clifton – really what were these two thinking when they submitted stuff? Over the last year, neither male has done anything worth talking about.

Really what have could the “Outstanding Younger Actress/Actors” submitted? All of last year, I didn’t think any did anything worth talking about after the storyline ended.

I guess coming off the Oscars, these noms are really shitty in comparison to the Oscars.

Michael Fairman reported that Michael Muhney withdrew his name from nomination. These awards are supposed to be about the actor’s performance, not BTS crap. Muhney deserved the recognition for his work, which was outstanding all year. The fact that he’s not being considered taints the awards and the whole process, IMO.

  10. Avatar of Dyllan

Muhney not being included does not taint the process. He withdrew on his own accord and was not forced. The Emmy’s couldn’t force him to submit his name. He probably withdrew to keep a low profile and improve his personal life.

Sorry, but IF Eileen Davidson does’t win Outstanding Lead Actress for Days, then the damn category shouldn’t even exist!!!

WHY IS Howarth even nominated for Franco….. ALL OF THAT SHIT HAS BEEN HORRIBLE!!! I think the race is between Billy Miller and Jason Thompson, and I’m pulling for Thompson. HOWEVER, Bergman is also a definite contender!!!

Supporting actress I’m pretty sure is gonna go to either, Melissa Claire, Jane Elliot, Liz Hendrickson or Nancy Lee Grahn….

Supporting Actor: Hmmmm Bradford Anderson, Blake Berris or hell Greg Vaughn….. I’m hoping for Anderson tho!!! AND I’ve got one thing to say, and yes I know how people feel about the actor, but I think he’s pretty good and deserved at least a pre-nom and that is Redaric Williams!!!! If Burton is on this fucking list for that constipation clinic he gave last year, Williams deserved a spot for his work during the Gus storyline.

Younger Actress: Hunter King OR Kelley Missal!!! However, I’d prefer it go to Missal…. the girl carried the young adult scene on the horribly written OLTL.

Younger Actor: WOW….. The category is REALLY GOOD THIS YEAR!!! Massey BETTER NOT WIN!!! Corbin Bleu should get a nom, don’t think he should win, however, Bryan Craig and Chad Duell BOTH did amazing work last year, so either of them could take it. Hell, they could let those two tie and I’d be completely fine. However, Casey Moss is extremely threatening in this category. I like Max Ehrich and I think he’s an amazing young actor, but I’ve never thought he was Emmy worthy, I could be wrong tho.

Hi All…..Meh, I wish the OLTL and AMC “adults” would have been better represented. Also missing is Judi Evans, Deidre Hall and John Aniston from DAYS, Melody Thomas Scott and Michael Muhney (knew he had no chance though) from Y&R and Kathleen Gatti and Kelly Thiebaud from GH. I am thrilled to see that Anthony Geary didn’t get a “because he’s Anthony Geary” nomination. He certainly wasn’t very deserving this year. Here’s a “first reaction” list of who I’d nominate from this list.

I really would like to know how Lead vs. Supporting roles are determined. A lot of the so-called “Lead” characters were rested in favor of some the supporting characters. For the life of me, I can’t think of what Carly did last year to warrant Laura Wright’s prenom. Then again, I do FF, so maybe I’m missing something important.

Shhh you’re using logic and reason and facts regarding MM and the Emmy process. That upsets some people.

Oh and seriously RoHo submitted his name for FRANCO!! Honestly outside of KA and Kelly Sullivan, RoHo has to be the worst actor in daytime. I mean I use to think he was great but Franco has proven he can only play Todd Manning and he no longer can do it well.

GH doesn’t stand a chance this year and frankly they don’t’ deserve it. I think YR could sweep, except younger actor but I sure hope HHK or KM win for younger actress. I haven’t seen enough of the younger actors to comment.

LW, Kemo and FH didn’t warrant a lead nomination they didn’t do enough especially LW. Of course they won’t get nominated IMO.

I think the Nominations will be

Alison Sweeny (more cause she is leaving)

    Lead Actor:

Elizabeth Hendrickson (I hope she wins, I really have been blown away by her work)
Not sure on the fourth but they don’t’ matter because the Emmy is going to one of the above three

    Supporting Actor

Younger Actress and Younger Actor in a Drama Series recognize the work of Performers aged 25 and under at the time of the original airdate of the submitted material. All individuals entering or show contacts entering on
their behalf, must provide proof of age with entry.” [Source: Daytime Emmy General Rules & Procedures.]

Both Khalil and Gregory were 25 during most of 2013, only turning 26 in November and December, respectively; so they have nearly a year’s worth of material from which to choose for submission.

Eileen Davidson all the way baby!!!

I’d love to see Kate Mansi (Abby) win, as well as Chandler Massey (Will). Blake as Nick and Casey as JJ are great also.

I’m shocked that Massey was nominated, only because how he was let go early and there seems to be bad feelings on Days’ part.

And don’t get me started that Steve Burton got a nomination. You know Jill Farren Phelps will do everything she can to get him a nom and a win. I just don’t want to know what that entails lol.
Y and R missed on their best actor nomination, by not nominating Michael Muhney, who is better by far than any of their other picks.
I realize MM decided not to submit himself but man he probably would have won, he was a powerhouse on Y&R.

Strong group in both Leads and Supporting Actor. Supporting Actress seems week after Elloit (The Whole Enchildales screens) and Hendrickson and Egen from YnR. No Storms or Dr. O from General Hospital or Woods from B & B. Here is my early guess

    Lead Actor

    Bergman
    Benard
    Miller
    Scott
    Thompson

Last four I think are in. Not sure about Bergman. Can Roger submitted as Todd the Todd/Carly goodbye episode?

    Lead Actress

    Davidson
    Hughes
    Toms
    West
    Zucker

    Supporting Actor

    Anderson
    Berris
    Cliffton
    Mattel
    Vaughn

Are they kidding us? Tracy Bregman supporting actress on Y&R and Jessica Collins lead actress?!!!???!!

I can’t decide if I want Eileen Davidson or Finola Hughes to win lead actress, both are phenomenal. This category is a tough one, there isn’t a single name on there that I’d be disappointed to see take the award.

Similarly in the lead actor list, though I would like to see Jason Thompson win the most.

All in the supporting actress list are great, though I’d rather not see Amelia Heinle or Cynthia Watros take the prize. It would be lovely to see Jane Elliot win, but she doesn’t normally nominate herself does she?

Steve Burton outstanding supporting actor??!! I really hope the B&B guys don’t win, Blake Berris is the most worthy imo.

Not sure who I want as outstanding younger actress, I really DON’T want Kim Matula to win!

I’d be happy to see Casey, Bryan, Chad, Max or Freddie win outstanding young actor.

I am all for Eileen Davidson to win lead Actress! I loved me some Annie on GL (Cynthia Watros), but I was so pulling for ED (Kristen) that year too….and Cynthia swooped in and took it.

I just hope that Maura West doesn’t pull that this year! I love Ava Jerome *she is my 2nd pick….or at least a tie between her and ED*

I certainly think it’s between the 2 of them and Heather Tom.

I will say though, that Ari Zucker had some great scenes this year too…..mainly the ones with Kristen though!

What a Quandary this is shaping up to be!!!!!

Isn’t this a bunch of BULLSHIT? I couldn’t even see him being nominated for dogcatcher, let alone an actor.

I’m sorry, but these prenoms are a joke. Basically everyone on the show has been nominated. How is this a great thing, or honor? It is easier to name the actors NOT nominated. I see all the actors congratulating each other on Twitter and I have to laugh.

With that said Kirsten Storms is a major oversight…and what story did LLo have to even have scenes to enter?

RH has overacted the entire year, playing Todd even though they call him Franco. I used to think he was a good actor, but he can’t even distinguish these two characters from one another. This is a total joke.

As for the actors from the other shows… I do not watch the other 3 shows, religiously like I do GH. I don’t think I can give an knowledgable opinion as a casual viewer…although I do agree that SBu has not done anything on Y&R to merit recognition.
It’s always been a rather gray area with regards to Lead and Supporting but it seems as though Lead is considered a performer who’s a lead actor/actress in a particular storyline as opposed to someone who’s actually considered the lead of a show. I’m thinking in particular about last year with Days’ Peggy McCay; she drove the Alzheimer’s arc but she’s never been a “lead” in the sense that an Alison Sweeney or Eileen Davidson is. But that’s just my theory on the whole thing.

As for the actual pre-noms, once again there’s a lot of head-scratching choices. IMO, the only actor from Y&R that should’ve been nominated in Lead besides Peter Bergman was Michael Muhney; I love both Christian LeBlanc and Doug Davidson but CLB pulls this bullshit where he submits himself every other year like clockwork for what amounts to about 1-2 weeks worth of “lead” material over the course of a year and DD has barely shed a tear all year so I don’t know where that nom came from. As for the rest of the Lead Actor field, I get Jason Thompson, James Scott and even Maurice Benard. But the rest are totally meh(and yes, that includes exiting-on-autopilot Billy Miller)and IMO this is actually one of the weakest of the six acting categories.

Lead Actress–LOVE Sharon Case, Maura West, Ari Zucker and Alison Sweeney(who NEVER gets any recognition and probably won’t this year either, sadly). Also love Jess Walton and like Jessica Collins a lot but not sure why they’re in this category(or nominated at all, tbh). But in my mind, if there’s one absolute no-brainer win, it’s Eileen Davidson, who gave the PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR in 2013 by anyone, male or female. If she doesn’t win, then I just don’t even know….

Both supporting categories have some very good noms. If I were picking I’d go with Egan, Hendrickson, Elliot, Grahn and maybe Bregman or Watros in Supporting Actress–although I think both Judi Evans and Lauren Koslow were robbed here–and Berris, Martsolf, deVry, Vaughan, and Kurth in Supporting Actor(I know, Days heavy, but what can I say?). And for the win, Egan and Berris.

For younger actress, I’d say Camila Banus–she’s come a LONG way–Hunter King, Kate Mansi, Kelley Missal and Denyse Tontz. For younger actor, I’d go with Corbin Bleu, Bryan Craig, Max Ehrich, Casey Moss and Freddie Smith. If I were picking winners, I’d probably give it to either King or Missal in younger actress. As for younger actor, that would be a genuine toss up for me; I think all five of those guys were fantastic day in and day out so that would be a hard one for me.

All in all, love seeing all the names from DAYS. And from the short time I’ve been watching, a lot of those GH actors are deserving as well(would’ve liked to have seen Kathleen Gati though, who I find endlessly entertaining). But Y&R? Probably the most head-scratching choices on the whole ballot; the aforementioned Davidson, LeBlanc, Walton and Collins, but also Steve Burton and Robert Adamson, the latter of whom I ADORE and think is a great little actor. But the category isn’t best PROPPING actor–now if it were, he’d win in a walk; that poor guy has been wasted all year propping up newbies and random day players at every turn.
Jess Walton as lead? She barely had a story last year.
If quantity of story isn’t an Emmy requirement it shouldn’t matter. Isn’t the award based on one episode? She had some powerful episodes with Jeanne Cooper last year. She shouldn’t be penalized because Y&R won’t write for her.

I’d love to see Jess nominated, maybe it would help loosen the purse strings at Sony so we can see more Jill. As per usual the mature male characters like Jack & Victor get plenty of story, but nothing for a mature strong female character, even after losing JC.

Michael Muhney so should of been on this list and I understand he withdrew his name, but he and Billy Miller killed it in those scenes. He so should of been on the list.

Others I do question, but glad to Eileen Davidson on here, and Jess Walton but trying to figure out what storyline she had.

We shall see what happens next and the beat will go on.

In other news, not sure about Lead Actor. I think I’m rooting for Jason Thompson, but if either James Scott or Billy Miller get it, it’ll be okay with me aswell.

Supporting Actor: definitely Blake Berris. His Nick was such a big thing on Days last year, and he is the gift that just keeps on giving.

Supporting Actress: I’m going to say Elizabeth Hendrickson. She has done outstanding work in a storyline that should have really been all about her. I mean, who does losing a child touch the most if not the mother of said child.

Jane Elliot also does constant great work, the context of those “enchilada” scenes was just too unappealing to me.

I also want to say Kimberly McCullough, but she is my third choice.

It is strange, weird and a glaring omission to not see Kirsten Storms on the list. She gave palpable performance throughout last year. Also, Kathleen Gati IMO deserved a pre-nomination. She was outstanding as Dr. O.

As for Younger Actress, it’s hard to say. Ashlyn Pearce is obviously growing into a major thing in the coming year, but all of her good scenes have been this year. (In fact, I kind of wonder what she could have submitted, didn’t she just arrive in November?).

As for Kate Mansi, she has delivered continuous good work throughout the years, but last year, she was barely in a storyline with Cameron, Chad and the Golden Circle. Lol. And surely that doesn’t qualify one for an Emmy, does it?

But given, that she has done good work for several years now (LOVED her in the Austin/Abby storyline) I suppose she could take it home this year.

For Younger Actor: To me, this is going to be between Casey Moss and Bryan Craig. These two have both had palpable scenes throughout 2013, as the tormented heirs with problems. Either one I would accept, though I’m maybe rooting slightly more to Casey Moss’ side.

Oh please, not Steve Burton and Jessica Collins. Their scenes put me to sleep. There was nothing special about any thing they did this year. Eileen D. for sure, Heather Thom always terrific and Finola Hughes had a great year. I’m sure Billy Miller will get the nod and Maurice B really gave his all during those scenes after Connie died and the manic episodes. Jason T as always was terrific. I’m sure Elizabeth H and Melissa will get the nod but Kristen S should have been nominated. Her and Bradford were amazing during the baby thing, and Bryan Craig has been great.

Some interesting choices, but pretty inclusive overall I think.

Most of us will really begin the shouting once the actual nominations are announced.

YR did not have a very good year consistently with their writing or production, but as usual I feel they have a strong cast and I hope to see the following nominated:

Sharon Case- OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Peter Bergman- OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
    Billy Miller

Missy Egan- OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
    Liz Hendrickson

Greg Rikaart- OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Hunter King- OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Max Ehrich- OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

I absolutely loved Jess Walton, Tracey Bregman, Christian LeBlanc, Doug Davidson, Daniel Polo, Robert Adamson, and Cynthia Watros at SOME point over this past year, but don’t think they had the material to get an actual nom.

The other YR prenoms, I was just shocked to see this year and won’t mention. Uh-umm.

I do wish that Muhney had submitted himself. I get why, but it’s his work that everyone should be judging.

While BB has some noms, I’d would have liked to see Don Diamont included. Their cast though, IMO, doesn’t match up to some of the other shows.

They should sweep the technical awards though, I think.

I’ve also read about some other “glaring” noms, but am very glad some of those did not get included. The same people seem to be nominated year after year…just because? I’m fine with this list.

Lastly even though I don’t watch Days or GH, just from the discussion here and elsewhere (that’s consistent) I’d like to see, Eileen D, Finola Hughes, Maura West, and Greg Vaughan get noms as well. Seems like they’ve had a great year!

P~ I so totally agree with you, example Doug Davidson I love but didn’t have any material or story to qualify him. This is a shame, JFP & Josh had last year’s winner in the Lead category and did nothing with him, idiots. It was a weak year for YR because the writing was so up & down and no balance to story or no bang for the buck endings.

I do think probably this year Jason Thompson will most likely win from GH, and yes give the gosh darn Emmy to Eileen Davidson!! ;)

MICHAEL MUHNEY by far outshone any of the actors who are on the list if he withdrew his name should have left it there could have had someone else accept for him and then shoved it Y & R’s …. !!!!!!
