HomeTVAll My ChildrenY&R’s Cady McClain on All My Children’s Second Demise: “Nightmarish and Heartbreaking” Jillian Bowe April 16, 2014 10 Comments It's no secret Cady McClain (ex-Dixie) was a staunch supporter of Prospect Park's efforts to bring back All My Children and sister show One Life to Live. In a new interview with TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan, The Young and the Restless transplant recalls the experience of enduring AMC's second cancellation. Here's an excerpt: TV Guide Magazine: Are you still stinging from the failure of Prospect Park's reboot of AMC? McClain: When you watch a beloved show come to an end and see the toll it takes on everyone with the production and the fans who have loved and supported it, it's like the death of an entire family. The experience with Prospect Park was nightmarish and heartbreaking. I was a big supporter of the show and what they tried to do with it online, but the powers that be who held the purse strings did not have their plan in place. It was all rather sad. [Laughs] Now there is nothing to bitch about! I'm, like, "You people at Y&R don't even know how bad it can get!" Every time I drive on the lot at CBS, I say a big prayer of thanks and gratitude. I hate to say it — and I would never wish those soaps to have been cancelled ever — but the gift of that loss is that it put a hot fire under everybody's ass. The surviving shows got their s–t together and everybody — actors, writers, producers — stopped taking their jobs for granted and worked a lot harder to make the most of the opportunity. It also made the networks realize how much these shows mean to the public. I wonder if the amount of negativity to result in the failed enterprise of relaunching AMC and OLTL in the new format (“Nightmarish and Heartbreaking” from McClain,Debbi Morgan refusing to submit herself for Emmy consideration for her signature role of Angie, Erika Slezak being owed big $$$) if viewers would have preferred that tha shows network endings had finality to them and given the denizens of Pine Valley and Llanview a more dignified ending. I hope the backstage rage over who said what about who and Kristoff’s ‘setting the record straight’ at Y&R has subsided, because those kind of antics would drive me nuts. Knowing this much about her life story now reinforces that feeling. She has overcome an incredible amount of hardship in her life, and she has landed pretty squarely on her feet. Now, THAT’s character! Log in to Reply Ryan-Scott April 17, 2014 I have loved this woman since she was Dixie Cooney and Adam was doing things to make her believe she was crazy on AMC. This lady is the real deal and I am so happy she is newly married and has this new role on Y&R. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 April 17, 2014 I always love Cady and is a terrific actress and love her on ATWT as bitchy Roseanne Cabot. and Dixie cooney, hope that she stays long. Log in to Reply Cornfed April 17, 2014 I love her too. I tuned into ATWT when she returned, JUST so i could see her, since i wasn’t a latter day AMC fan and didn’t see any of Tad/Dixie or anything else. LOVED McClain and Scott Bryce on ATWT, but of course Howarth had to ruin that story along with that awful Paul/Meg coupling, but i digress! LOL Log in to Reply FoxCrane April 17, 2014 One thing that surprises me is that, like Watros, I notice that McClain is still listed as recurring (non-contract) in Y&R’s credits. .. It sounded like Y&R wanted to expand (commit to) the Kelly character longer-term, but Watros was simply unable to do that until she heard one way or another about the MTV pilot. I figured when they hired McClain, she’d be on contract. Log in to Reply pferrando April 17, 2014 What surprises me is how everyone is raving what a great job she did with Kelly IN JUST ONE SHORT DAY. She didn’t really have anything to do. The big test is when they give her some scenes opposite Sean. Otherwise it is WAY too early for someone unfamiliar with her, like me, to say yes or no. I caught her briefly when I tried to watch the AMC reboot, but all she did was shriek on there. Log in to Reply Hate Sonny April 18, 2014 She’s beautiful, a gifted actress, and has been a staunch supporter of the medium since the late 80′s. I’m not sure what she has to do to convince people she’s the real deal. I love Cynthia Watros, and always hated that she was sacrificed at the altar of Kim Zimmer/Reva, but the reality is she jumped ship for an MTV pilot. She regards daytime as a placeholder, which is fine, but you can’t blame Cady for that. Log in to Reply Cyberologist April 18, 2014 I didn’t really watch much of AMC in recent years before they were cancelled out , so I haven’t seen this actress since the early Dixie days. However she was on the show a long time so I can imagine… As for her new role, I am a Cynthia Watros fan and fan of the Kelly character that was played by Watros to a T….she has tough shoes to fill so I agree not to rush to judgment with just the little of her today ,..I’ll wait to see how the storyline is going. Its really hard to believe that she banged Billy. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
