Y&R’s Melody Thomas Scott Tweets Support For Fired David Tom

Mama Newman showed some love for exiting The Young and the Restless star David Tom (ex-Billy) on Twitter.  A close friend of the acting Toms, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) tweeted:

On Friday, I broke news of Tom being replaced at the CBS Daytime soap by primetime actor Burgess Jenkins. As always, MTS is a class act!

Go for it, Melody. Tell it the way that it is.

NO scenes between Jess Walton and Dave Tom? Stupid. Doesnt anyone read anything about Y&R from 10, 15 years ago? Had a gold mine there, potential for great viewing with Jill and Billy. But noooo, Jill is still trying to figure out the music box, a story-line from a year ago! A year ago. What a disgrace, and waste of Jess Walton.

Now we have Burgess Jenkins. Thats a real winner of a pick.

^^^hey mon…..in the few short months David Tom was on Y&R recently, he had more scenes with Jill than Billy Miller had his entire stint. They’ve shared plenty of scenes together since his return…

On another note though, I have to say…I think its horrible how they’ve done this. I wasn’t a fan of emo-Billy. David Tom just didn’t seem to have that grown up flair/swag that Billy Miller had, but they could’ve given him a little more time to fit into the role or try to make it his own. But I digress…

I thought I read that they had signed David Tom to a long term contract. Wonder if that means anything or do they just drop them and move on. My thought with a contract, they had to live up to it or at least pay you off in some way. I did not care for him as Billy, but still a bit unfair to be fired and makes me presume, a contract with Y and R is worthless, just like some of their dud actors.

^^^I seem to remember reading somewhere that the way a long-term contract work is that every six-month cycle the show can exercise the option to dissolve the agreement, for whatever reason, but I could be thinking of something else. By the time DT finishes airing it’ll have been about six months since he came on so that may be it. Either way, I still say this is a good decision; he just wasn’t working in the role this go-round. But it is nice to be reminded that MTS always keeps it classy.

Right. The standard soap opera contract has 26-week cycle dates written into it. They can let the actor go, for no particular reason at those times. The cylce dates for newbies can even be as little as 13-weeks during their first year. (Hello Justin Gaston on DAYS!) Some vets, though, can get a full 52-week (first-year) guarantee on their multi-year contract.

They just have to make sure to give the actor the proper advance-notice (as specified in the contract) prior to the next cycle beginning that they intend to dump them (Hello Nia Peeples on Y&R!).

JFP is the one who needs to be fired. She’s serving up shit week after week and people eat it up and say how fabulous it is. Tells you something about the audience for this disaster.

The fact that key demos are in the dumper and over 20% of the viewers have walked out on this shit show since the end of January tells the tale of JFP’s inability to produce a show. She’s a disaster, yet she still has her job.

David Tom should still be on contract. Jill Farren Phelps should be the one out of work.

“In my 35 years in Genoa City, there has been only one regime that made us walk on eggshells, and it wasn’t under Jill. Sure,we were warned of the ‘Wicked Witch’ that was blowing our way, but she has been nothing but a great leader, gracious, professional, approachable and a pleasure to work with.” — MTS on March 31, 2014.

Hmmm, I wonder if she feels any different now? 3:)

Melody is being supportive of her friend without being critical of TPTB. She must know that, as a woman of a certain age, her character could easily be shipped off to that Great Big Rehab in the Sky. JFP’s history has quite a few examples of that.

I find her to just be, sucking up, or to be blunt, just plain ass kissing. Of course any one that would let them stick the rats nest on her peroxided blonde hair, isn’t the brightest bulb in the pack.

I don’t think it changed her view much. Why should it?

Sadly David Tom wasn’t given a chance by viewers. The Twitter hate he got the last couple of months was all but constructive. Next to him being under attack, Tom didn’t seem to fit in. Billy as a character has changed so much since Tom last played him.

TPTB are only partly responsible here. The Billy Miller hardcore fans who still demand that he returns are to blame just as much. And then again, it felt like that Tom didn’t fit in. Don’t know if it was hard for him because his on-screen-wife told everyone just how much she still misses Miller and rather supported Sean Carrigan or something else.

I totally agree with you. She has to be one of the phoniest people I’ve ever seen on TV. I’ve seen her “act” in person and she’s a spoiled brat and arrogant as hell. At last year’s Emmy awards, it was so bad people were mocking her right behind her back.

Jeanne Cooper wrote in her last book about MTS and how she refused to talk to her off-screen for over four years without any reason, yet they shared scenes together. MTS never explained herself or apologized to Cooper. What does that tell you about her?

I’m just saying this and putting it out there maybe Mama Newman will tell her husband Ed Scott…I’m just saying maybe he can get a small role on B&B…
MTS offers support for a fired friend, so why is she being trashed here?
Because she’s a self-centered phony. Just because she’s played Nikki Newman doesn’t earn her a pass at being another spoiled Hollywood brat.

A few years ago they wrote MTS out during her contract negotiations. It was common knowledge that she wouldn’t take a payout when several of the other vets did. She took to Twitter to have her “fans” contact TPTB about how much they missed Nikki, blah, blah, blah. She acted as if she was clueless and had NO idea why she wasn’t working (it was MANY weeks). I got so sick of her Twitter antics I finally tweeted to her, “you know exactly why you’re not on the set and working right now. You’re not fooling anybody w/these tweets” (or something like that.) I’m pretty sure I’ve been blocked ever since, LOL!

What does that have to do with this subject?

Some people are way off-topic here. It’s no secret that Melody Thomas Scott is close to David Tom. She was actually one of the first people who welcomed him back on the show. So I don’t know what’s phony about her behavior.

Of course she is a – I would say – classic soap diva. But that’s nothing new and doesn’t really has anything to do with the topic. Offering David Tom kind words in a situation, where he is constantly put down by fans and doesn’t seem to have impressed his female co-star at all, is actually sweet IMO.

This post wasn’t about her. It was about a co-star that she considers a friend.

If this post wasn’t about her, then she should not have been mentioned.

Absolutely nothing wrong with supporting a friend. It was about him, not her.

But for sure, he should never been brought back to the part in the first place. That is all on Jill.

The part of Billy Abbott had grown far beyond the teen that DT had played, and it was obvious from the start that he was not the charming, playboy, business man that BA had become. So blame should be put squarely on JFP’s shoulders for hiring him.

Had she not done that, then all this mess could have been avoided.
Of course, had they treated BM the way he should have been treated in the first place, Well………

It was about her, sweet but self centered. She didnt need to tweet that out. Thats not class! Class is telling David that behind closed doors, by phone or text. Not a tweet to the whole World. That was to have all her silly fans sing her praises.

U are so right, Billy M. should have never been let go. Neither should have Adam/Michael M. MM, has forgotten more about acting than the ding bat playing Summer will ever know and would have been much better story, to dump her than MM.

I don’t understand how anyone can be a loyal, longtime fan of the show and not respect Melody.

She’s been around long enough, and yes, carried the show at times, to be able to tweet support for anyone without being criticized.

I probably would have quit watching in the 80′s if she had left. I tuned in for the Abbotts, Nikki and Victor, and Kay and Jill. They were pretty much the core of YR that brought it to where is still is today.

And hopefully the next EP will have the common sense to realize Tom was never going to be Miller, Gina will never be Michelle, and nuAdam will never be oldAdam. Why Phelps only gave Tom six months shows what a true idiot she is. No, he wasn’t terrible in the role. He originated it and the role evolved. It would have under him again.

I think a more glaring recast is happening with nuKelly. Yikes.

That isn’t true in the least…Luke explained it was an accident, DC the most fair site to let fans vent even if it means putting up with…hmmm how can I say it tactfully “the misguided, hateful fans constantly for any soap. in other words the psycho fans. ;)
