5 Other Soaps TVGN Should Start Airing

With TVGN experiencing a ratings boon—in significant part due to re-airings of CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless—I can't help but wonder if both the cabler and suds lovers alike would benefit from additional soaps finding a nighttime home on the Lionsgate/CBS-owned channel. Below are five sudser I think TVGN should acquire.

Kelly Rutherford Files For Bankruptcy Following Costly Divorce

This is a sad tale. Generations, Melrose Place and Gossip Girl alum Kelly Rutherford has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. According to TMZ, the blonde beauty's divorce and custody fight with ex-husband, Daniel Giersch is what has left her over $2 million in debt, with less than $24,000 in assets. From the article:

Here's the problem -- she spent nearly $1.5 mil on legal fees for her bitter divorce/custody war with ex-hubby Daniel Giersch.  We've learned she's asking the family law judge to make him pay, but now she's waving the white flag by filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Procter & Gamble Soap Alums Head to One Life to Live!

Get ready to see some familiar faces return to daytime, er, "anytime" this summer. The Online Network announced former Guiding Light star Ron Raines, along with As The World Turns’ Paolo Seganti and Marnie Schulenburg are joining One Life to Live

Raines will play Carl Peterson, an enigmatic financial benefactor to Jeffrey (Corbin Bleu). Seganti will slip into the role of Arturo Bandini, a rich patron of the arts. Schulenberg has signed on to play Jo Sullivan, a producer of David’s (Tuc Watkins) new reality series.

The Haves and The Have Nots’ Tika Sumpter Dishes Oprah, Tyler Perry and Smooching Chace Crawford! (VIDEO)

You may only have One Life to Live, but Tika Sumpter continues to prove her career was merely just beginning when she appeared on the ABC Daytime sudser from 2005-11. The in demand actress has been busy with high profile guest spots on primetime series like Gossip Girl and The Game and big screen turns in flicks like Think Like a Man and Sparkle. Now she's returning to the soap world in OWN and Tyler Perry's The Haves and The Have Nots (premiering May 28 at 9/9c).

Wishful Casting: Ex-Gossip Girl Schemer Kaylee DeFer as General Hospital’s Lulu Spencer Falconeri!

I tell you what, doing Wishful Castings ain't as easy as they used to be! With only four daily soaps left on broadcast TV, and two returning online, we're quickly getting to the point where literally everyone has appeared on every soap.

For the upcoming recast of Lulu Spencer Falconeri on General Hospital, I decided to go out of the daytime soap box. While GH fans have been tweeting and Facebooking me names like Stephanie Gatschet (ex-Tammy, Guiding Light; ex-Madison, All My Children), Martha Madison (ex-Belle, Days of Our Lives; ex-Liz, General Hospital), Jessica Morris (ex-Jen, One Life to Live) and even Jen Lilley (ex-Maxie, GH), none of those ex-soap stars really speak "Lulu" to me.
