I must agree with all that

I must agree with all that one has to say. These ad libbed monologues are horrible. The scenes are too short with no meat on the bone. I remember when it would be five minutes before the show open would come on. I'm really upset about sharon I was loving her as a diva and standing up for herself. Now they are taking her back to a needy, whiney and humilated woman. At least the production value of the show is better but the writing is so as Jamey says paint by numbers.

THANK YOU.

I have absolutely zero interest in this Y&R 2.0. It is truly, like a totally different show, one that I want no part of. I remember in 555-5555 I only watched now and then, and that was partly due to my being used to it, after watching it since 1994. Then in 2009 it slowly became must see TV again. Now, I just *want* out. I don't even go to Y&R message boards anymore. Everytime I've tried I just feel sick afterwards.

I'm just thanking the lucky stars that DAYS has become very interesting, due to Kristen DiMera, and GH is sizzling hot with compelling storylines and characters!

You opened the door, so if I may bash:

So, you preferred hackneyed, plot-driven, half-baked tales where established characters abandon all personality traits to be shoehorned into a ready-made storyline??

You preferred muddled tales of murder and revenge that are so poorly contrived and convoluted that even the audience is tired of the story? (the "Who Killed Diane Jenkins?" story supports this question)

You preferred one-note, shrill and totally hated characters that were poorly conceived from the get-go? (Genevieve, Chelsea, Anita, Yolanda/Harmony, etc??)

You perferred characters that in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM could have been related to established characters?? (Think Ryder & UGH-DAISY!! There is NO WAY that they could have been the offspring of Sheila Carter & "Terrible" Tom Fisher - ONLY IN MAB'S WARPED WORLD!!)

You preferred the useless and needless SORAS'ing of many characters' offspring to the point where the actual age difference between parent & child was no greater than 10-15 years?? (the worst SORAS'ing under MAB - the character of Kyle, now being portrayed by some meathead buffoon who can't act if his life depended on it!!)

The new regime has only had its' material on for 16 broadcast days (including today's episode) and I am already seeing changes for the better - give it time, dude - give it time!!!

I agree with Bartman202. The show is leaps and bounds better. MAB's Y&R was filled with pointless characters and storyline's that rejected years of character history and spoon fed the ADD audience. "thebookerman" if you think this is slow you would have hated Bill Bell's Y&R. I love what the new regime has been able to accomplish in such a short period. It's going to take some time to rebuild what Maria and LML spent years destroying. JG and JFP have my support so far.

I will not lie and say I was watching this show in 1973, but from the clips and episodes I have watched online, I would have loved that era. I have to disagree with you leaping to that conclusion.

Slowing down the pace can be a good thing, but not when you have no direction. What's the point of having Victor wait 6 months before he takes over Newman again, or having him do it in 1 month? We know he's getting it back, there's no thrill, there's no suspense.

And that's not even taking into account that the whole fighting over the company thing is so played out at this point.

I think it's too soon to judge the new writers/producers. I do notice that the show has become less plot-driven and the character interactions seem more genuine, so I would say that's a positive thing. To some, that might translate as "boring," but I will give these new writers at LEAST a full month before I make my assessment!!

Let's remember, change takes time!! Smile Beer

Thank you Bartman for speaking for me as I completely agree with you. This show is a vast improvement over what we were tortured with for 5 frickin' long years. The pace of the show is much, much better. The lighting is vastly improved, direction, camera work much, much better. Hair and make up is getting even better. The music is much better. The difference between what we dealt with when MAB was at the helm of Y&R to what we're seeing now is night and day.

Sorry bookerman, but I do not agree with anything you had to say and quite frankly, you insulted my intelligence with your ramblings.

@Christian That's fine that

@Christian

That's fine that you disagree, but I just don't see how you can say the pace is better. Today's episode, I don't even know what happened, I can't say anything was advanced, and I'm begging for this Genevieve/Ethan thing to end. I have my reservations about it being wrapped up properly before she exits, and when that doesn't happen I'm sure DC will spin it saying, "At least we're through with the mess started by MAB."

I also have to question pace for what? What is the payoff? What is the end game? As I said, if they were building toward something I'm fine with things starting slow, but when you have no plan, or have nothing original (i.e. somehow Victor DOESN'T regain control of Newman) what is the point?

So far, other than giant Chipmunk heads, I really don't see a marked improvement with the "suspension of disbelief" writing.

Oh and that goddamn guitar music at Avery's "condo"/whole in the wall...

Where is all the complaining on here?

Since MAB was TRASHED I expect a far review for TPTB so far.

Okay...go!

Alston...I like you too because I know, like me, you are a true fan. I only want what's best...but here...

Consider...

Gen does exactly what's asked of her and contacts cops. Ronan arrives, finds her handkerchief, after she plays a part in contacting the cops, and he says he has to call it in. Really? She'd leave it?

Victor is ALREADY BACK to blackmailing Billy, when he said he was letting go?

Jack collapsed this week, when Vic collapsed last week? This sounds like something MAB would have done.

Tucker is calling Kay, "mother" and he's concerned about her? Huh?

And crazy Sharon is rearranging furniture after telling Adam she's not crazy? Why not just speed this up and have her say, Yes, please, I need help.

I can't forgive this, just like a LOT of people couldn't forgive the last four years.

BUT on a completely different topic, I LOVE your Victoria pic. How in the fuc* are we gonna get her BACK? Smile

Jesus the ink isn't even dry on the scripts and we're already killing Josh Griffin. I didn't hate MAB tenure because it was so bad I stopped watching. Simple. I like what Josh Griffin is doing. These people are starting to sound like the characters I feel in love with. I give him to the end of the year and that's being generous considering he didn't do a Days Aster

I concur with GLTURNS70: As faithful "Y & R" fans, we need to give the new regime time to gain its footing, finish off with the slurry that was to be fed to us by Maria Arena Bell and start telling its own planned tales for the citizens of Genoa City.

By week's end, we will be done with Yolanda/Harmony, Genevieve and Heather. With that knowledge, I am going to focus forward and forget all about silver chipmunks, deaths by volcanoes and Daisy Carter!!!!

@Bartman, like I said in my

@Bartman, like I said in my initial post I'm not buying that argument. MAB had nothing to do with half the things that are already going right now. These are already Phelps/Griffith bad ideas.

I'm willing to give it time, but we also need to be fair. From my point of view this is a step in the wrong direction and has been since their version began. There's plenty that could be done with these characters that hasn't been done yet, but it doesn't look like they're doing anything new. The same Jack/Victor nonsense we've had for so long, another lame love triangle etc.

@GL, maybe I'm overreacting to a few weeks, but the "characters you fell in love with?" Who exactly are you referring to? Mr. Excitement Nick Newman? Victor speaking in the same monotone he's used for the last decade? A watered down, apologetic Tucker McCall? An equally watered down Phyllis? The ghost of Sharon Newman?

For all MAB put us through, I thought Billy Abbott was also good for a funny line every now and then. Even that's gone in these recent scripts.

Ok I kinda agree with

Ok I kinda agree with everyone on some points, so here's what I think.

Personally, I hated a good majority of MAB's storylines. I don't mind wacky or a little far fetched, but the chipmunk thing, the double doppelganger story, Daisy and Ryder being Sheila's kids, Sharon's inexplicable behavior, Diane's murder and more, were all too ridiculous for me to enjoy.

So I am glad those days are over and I do prefer the more realistic tone of the show now. I also agree it's still early and before I can render a decision on whether or not I even like the new regime better, I need to see more. I'm thinking November Sweeps is going to be a good time to see what they are capable of coming up with.

HOWEVER I can also agree with thebookerman on some things. For instance, while I prefer the less cartoonish writing, I can't say I'm really all that interested in anything that's going on right now either. I'm still willing to give it more time, but as for now, I have no interest in seeing anyone battle it out for Newman, Chancellor, Jabot or any other company in GC. I also have no interest in Phyllis or her love life. The only storyline I want to see her in is one where she goes to jail. Sharon's storyline is also annoying me. I just want to know what is wrong with her already (which I'm hoping is not going to be the unoriginal brain tumor idea). Having her burn down the ranch has done nothing to fix or explain MAB's destruction of the character. Adam and Sharon also feels like a lot of "been there, seen that". And Paul needs to just get out of jail already, enough with these scenes of Eden and her vague memories, slowly putting together the pieces of a puzzle we've already seen. Why drag it out as if we can't predict the outcome?

So overall, I'm not loving the show yet either, but under MAB I hated it. Right now I'm just neutral and waiting to see if anything good/interesting actually happens next month.

The writers were given a mess and its gonna take time to write the characters out of this stupid mess. For one I am so tired of family members turning on each other, aka, Devon and Tucker, Cane and Genevieve, Sharon's son and Nick and Billy stabbing Jack his brother in the back. I sure hope they don't revisit Nick and his sister in law which is sick.

This is laughable.

The people here that are not agreeing with the direction of the new regime are the same who defended MAB's writing and tried to criticize JFP and JG for every move. Even before they started with their work.
So I'm not surprised about this here...

Every one has a different taste. But that's not really what all this here seems to be about.
Y&R was a hot mess for the past few months. Most viewers agree on that. The ratings actually agreed on it, so did most if not all critics.

What I've been seeing these past weeks is crazy...
When Robert Adamson got cast in the role of Noah, people actually were complaining about his looks. Does he look similar to Joshua Morrow? Hell yeah - Adamson could very well be his son. BUT that doesn't matter because people rather want to complain that JFP is type casting roles with dark-haired, good-looking actors.
After they cast Haley King, people talked about a Hollywood Heights invasion. LOL 2 people can be an invasion. Right.

Josh Griffith's writing airs now for how long? Two or maybe even three weeks. And it already makes a difference.
I don't have to watch a plot-driven mess anymore where character's history isn't honored. I actually watch characters again that have a character and not only act after plot.
Is he a good head writer? I don't know yet. I'm not quick on judging people and/or new regimes. The first couple of weeks/months are easy because you can please your audience with turning stuff around that the previous regime has failed at. The time after these first couple of months ... that's where it get's real.

Haters are gonna hate. But this seems not to be about the show anymore. This seems to be about the people behind the show. Attacking JFP & JG for various reasons - who could do whatever, they wouldn't do it right.

soapjunkie88...Here! Here! I will Beer to that (it's coffee). Thank you for pointing out about the haters will be haters because of the people behind this show. It's wanting Y&R to fail at all costs regardless of improvement. I to will make a better judgement call on the direction when January comes around and we fans will see the new direction of JG & JFP...time will tell. Again, thank you for at being thoughtful and realistic about the mess they inherited from hack MAB. I respect Josh for at least trying to quickly ending the mess instead how other writers on soaps totally ignored the stories just to put their stories in place when they took over the reigns. It makes a show very unbalance and and direction is all over the map and fans might not like the stories but we want some kind of resolution to move on to the new stories.

I'm mixed on this topic.

I'm mixed on this topic.

Things I love about Y&R 2.0:

* hope for the future: there was a big mess to clean up and it can't be simply undone in a few weeks - they're laying the groundwork for some great things while trying to tie up the loose ends. I can't bash too many plot moves (but I do - see below) because I dont' know where they're planning to head - I have a lot of faith, though, that they'll be better than the past few years of dopplegangers and contrived stories.
* the new Summer is so much better
* I loved the old Noah, but I'm totally digging the new one
* giving Jack control of Newman (however long that may last)
* Avery's apartment - a drastic change from the broody, dark sets of the past
* Possible foundations for a major gay character (Noah? Fen? Both?) This is long overdue on Y&R.
* Loving that someone has finally noticed what an ass Cricket is and decided to show it to the world.
* Wish list: giving Billy Miller something great that will change his mind about leaving. The old regime could not write for him (they hid him away in a trailer with no interactions for months!). He's awesome and needs to stay and play a sensational story.

Things I am NOT loving:
* Adam's sudden detachment from Chelsea. Baby loss is tough and this could have played with a lot of emotion. I know it's a set-up for Bad Adam to return, but I'm finding myself feeling really bad for Chelsea instead of cheering the return of Badam.
* The firing of Marcy Rylan - she is (was) one of my favorite parts of this show and good writing could have given this actress so much meaty story. Huge loss - big disappointment.
* Same to a lesser extent about Harmony. She had a lot of possibilities, but they chose to end it.
* I applaud any move to lessen the airtime of Julia Pace Mitchell as Sophia, but really, she should just be fired instead of this recurring nonsense.
* Big story holes: This was something I was NOT expecting and it makes me nervous. For instance, the ranch fire. Adam was on the premises during the fire and no one stopped him, questioned him or even noticed him? Why, during the first few days, did no Newman even question what happened? Their home burned to the ground and they're all acting like a beloved tree needed to be chopped down.
* More story annoyances: let's find Daisy already, let's solve the Ricky mess (what happened to the figure who planted the knife?), and let's get Sharon on the mend (stowing her in a cabin is boring - see Billy-in-a-trailer above).

All in all, I'm optimistic about Josh's writing and the vision of the show. I've been watching since 1987 and have great hopes for a long future!

I'm enjoying it...*shrugs*

I was a MAB supporter. Not because she was a great writer, and not because I enjoyed the show, but just because I felt like as long as she was headwriter NOBODY was going to give the show a compliment. Even when there was a week of great shows, we'd get a podcast about how HORRIBLE the last few months have been and nothing positive was ever said.

With THAT being said, I'm enjoying the new writers, and not just because people are still hard on Y&R. I expect that from this site now. But I enjoy it because it seems much more realistic to an extent. The characters are having actual conversations. They aren't just all running around doing ridiculous things with no motive. The dramatic scenes are well done again and not hokey like they had become. The show looks better to me as well. Still not Bill Bell's Y&R but we'll never get that again. But I say give these people some time...

Not to be political, but I'd say Josh Griffith is Barack Obama and MAB was George Bush. No need to explain, but after years and years of CRAP...Josh Griffith was handed a can of potted meat and asked to make a lobster dinner out of it in a short amount of time...

@soapjunkie We've admittedly

@soapjunkie

We've admittedly duked it out over how I perceive MAB to be treated by DC in the past, but to suggest that I have some sort of ulterior motive is crazy. I was NOT a MAB supporter. Not at all, but I also thought she took a lot of blame and a lot of undeserved criticism throughout her run.

This past summer actually had some fun storylines. Yes, at times it made your head hurt, but it was good soapy fun. The characters actually seemed to be utilized in a way that played to their strengths (except for a few exceptions.)

My point is that I would kill for an over the top storyline that used some of the few talented stars still on the cast. This show is just really boring right now. The actors seem to be going through the motions, and while at times the dialogue might be a little bit crisper, I'll give the current regime their due there, more often than not it's just not engaging.

There's a reason a lot of the cast liked Maria Arena Bell. She's going to give you some goofy storylines here or there, but she's also going to give you material that will let your character shine. She did it with Adam, with Phyllis, but sometimes she didn't follow through entirely when it seemed like she'd be writing meaty storylines for characters like Neil.

Well actually, some might say *this* is laughable. It could be stated just as the opposite - here are people who seem to think JFP & JG can do no wrong. That all the changes they make are good ones - yeah right. That is not possible. And concerning attacking people behind the show, isn't that exactly what happened concerning MAB.

You can't have it both ways. There has to be critique to go around both ways, if you want to stay "fair".

I don't like the way you or others bash DAYS currently, but I don't call you on it, or interfere in it. In the words of Kristen DiMera: "Hello, pot, this is Kettle here!"

Every one does have their own tastes and should really just concentrate on the positive Smile

I'm glad MAB is gone. What

I'm glad MAB is gone. What she did to the Winters was terrible. Two brothers fighting over the same woman and cheating yet again Neil knocking her up. Lily was religated to JUST being a mom with no friends other than her family and Cane's constant lying to his sweet and trusting wife. Nother wrong with being a stay at home home but for gawd sakes allow Lily to attend parties, weddings and funerals and give her some friends her age. MAB really blew it with Shadam who have all the chemistry in the world but MAB just loves tearing families apart. Victor tossing his "son'" coffin out a plane and beating up Diane was two of the lowest things I have ever seen on a soap. If soap fans can love and root for Todd Manning, a gang rapist, child stealer twice over and brother killer (so he thinks) then they can love Adam but MAB never let up on what Adam did and for gawd sakes get Adam away from boring @ss Chelsea, no chemistry at all.

I have to disagree: there is chemistry with Chelsea and Adam, and I think the real Chelsea us starting to shine through.

Did you see the look she shot at Miss Firebug 2012 at the end of today's episode?

MAB wrote a weak character, after all of her off screen exploits, we really didn't get to see much of it onscreen.

And with Daisy Duke shorts and Gary Ewing as parents, well, that was even worse.

Gloria needs a storyline that does not involve Gloworm, or her bumbling sons!!!

Yoryla I so agree with what you posted. Most on here do want it both ways. I'd like to think that some of us call it good when it is, and crap when it's crap. MAB did provide us with BOTH.

I've only been on this site since I heard MAB got canned so I could get some of the behind the scenes stuff. As an outsider it is VERY clear that this place is very pro GH, and was very anti Y and R/MAB. I do read a lot of posts that suggest that they are Y and R fans, but I really have to wonder who is who.

All that I ask it that people don't praise Jill and Josh for something I read you bashed MAB for. It's very hypocritical.

I'll give credit for credit is due regardless of who gets it. Fair and balanced...just like FOX News. Wink

Forgot to add that for those who doubt my loyalty to Y and R...I've watched every episode from about 1975/76 as a young boy ( and loved them all until around 2007) when Kay and Jack were replaced. I keep hoping for a return to that somehow.

Pferrando...My GAWD someone that can actually remember Y&R in the '70s! Smile
I started watching from the debut (our house was CBS, except AW then) I was 12 and fell in love with this new soap. I wish they would release DVDs of Y&R of the '70s because some doesn't realize how awesomely good it was back then with Bill launching this little soap. It has the beginnings of Jill\Kay, Lori\Lance, Leslie\Brad\Lucas, Peggy joining that cult and Stuart kidnapping his daughter to bring home, Jennifer dying, the romance of Snapper \Chris, Gwen the nun screwing Greg secretly, Suzanne haunting Mrs. C, the death of Phillip cause by Kay, Vanessa Prentiss evil woman, introduction of Paul and Williams, introduction of Nikki (remember the first Nikki?), Nikki getting VD from Paul, Jill marrying Stuart taking him from Liz for money, Jill's pregnancy and Kay trying to gain custody of the baby. It was just awesome and made such impression during my high school years. I loved all of CBS soaps back then and each one was popping. Love You had LOL, SFT, Y&R, ATWT, GL I miss those days when you truly had blocks of soaps on networks. Sad(

YES! Bill truly had me

YES! Bill truly had me hooked from the start. My Grandmother took care of us kids while my parents both worked, and she had CBS on all day long. Her fav was ATWT, but I remember watching shows like LOL, EON, SFT, Where the Heart Is even before Y and R debuted. Y and R (for me) was always different from the start. Its consistency for the most part all the way until LML was elevated by Bloom in 2007 is the reason why it maintained its #1 rating. Luckily keeping most of the cast in tact over the years has allowed it to still be #1, when the writing has floundered. I'll be watching until it's gone or I am as long as the characters I know are on the screen. I've put up with a lot so I can hope for the best.

Armageddon, I think you

Armageddon, I think you misunderstand what I said. For example I don't watch GH, so I don't or shouldn't be bashing anything about the show if I don't watch it. I have no basis to be writing about it when I have no loyalty to it. I'm thinking (from a lot of what I've read on here), that others are doing that. Unfortunately like my mother always said, "Don't talk about something, that you know nothing about." That's just me.

Thought it worth bumping this

Thought it worth bumping this thread as we have now seen quite some time under the new regime.

Can't wait to see some of the biased articles about Phelps/Griffith, because the show has been PAINFULLY boring.
