Oh, well these aren't very good. On the other hand, I'm not surprised, since by this time all the hype of the anniversaries of both GH and Y&R was starting to be over, and complaints on both shows have been heard. It's always the proverbial "Monday after a long weekend" effect after these kind of major events. Let's hope they pick up.
Days has been better since the Dannifer storyline ended, hopefully they can keep the momentum and push full steam ahead and garner some action. It's looking good for Days in that respect.
While these are not good, I'm hoping this is because of the bombing coverage on all the cable news shows last week. It pretty much was on non stop.
If we continue to see these numbers for this week, it will NOT be a good sign!
I think it was a mixture of bombing coverage and simply boring episodes featuring the newbies and pushing Dylan\Avery. Those two were on A LOT, both have been on 8 out of 9 days....with limited vets, this is starting to pee me off
I know me too Harlee!
Monday and Friday there were pre-emptions. CBS didn't count Mon&Fri for B&B and Fri for Y&R. But the number tue-thur when there were no pre-emptions were dismal. I think the dust is settling with viewers over all the changes on Y&R. I think the numbers were up as everyone has been curious. That curiosity seems to be dieing down.
Day-To-Day Ratings – HH/Total Viewers
Little side note; Nelson Branco tweeted the following last night about Y&R.
#YR is so fucking boring. At least Maria engaged me one way or the other.. Snooze.
#YR is deleted from my DVR.
Josh Griffith needs Michael Malone. #YR
Granted the guy flips like a fish out of water but still not a positive tweet from someone who has covered soaps for a long time. The posts still exist on his facebook page but he has since deleted them from his twitter page.
In all fairness to these soaps, this was the week of the Boston bombings. I don't know how coverage was outside the NY and Boston markets, but the soaps weren't seen up this way at all. Boston being a top 10 viewing market and 24hr coverage of the bombings might have a little something to do with the drop, no?
For the Boston area, I believe we just returned to normal television programming on Tuesday of this week.
Restless, you're right about NB, he's constantly changing his direction, I stopped getting his soap uncensored. The bombing in Boston definitely had effect on ratings but B&B & Days had the same amount of ratings on those days and held their own & B&B is up again. That tells me it was also the episodes being not near the quality. I guess Y&R's thinking was to let the Avery\Dylan "shine" and it was a dull thug...
harlee I subscribe to NB's rag because I do think he gets good information but I take a lot of his personal opinion with a grain of salt. Too many times I have seen him pan a soap in one breath and hail it as the greatest thing the next. Hence the fish out of water analogy. Like the company gossip he usually knows the most but you should always proceed with caution.
I cut the ratings some slack due to pre-emptions but Y&R has been going down every week for the last three periods. Not surprising given how heavily featured new characters have been and just the lack of overall excitement. Also the balance of the show is off. The Gus storyline seems to make sporadic appearances with no real dedication to character development. I will admit Dylan is kinda growing on me but he too is featured heavily while not being fully realized. Dylan is mostly in our face whether we like him or not. But it's more than that. Even the Carmine/Lauren affair is starting to take a weird turn with Carmine being played as persistent and obsessive. The sexy vibe that is Carmine is starting to dwindle. A good triangle should keep the viewers guessing and waffling for who to root for. Right now Carmine has no rooting value other than the fact that he's hot and it's making Lauren look like an insensitive ass. These type of storylines have a short shelf life when characters start coming off too one dimensional(as Carmine is).
I think TVG network needs to start running Y&R from 1983. I would watch every day knowing I have a good 23 years ahead of me of good quality soap. I'd be happy with that.
Y&R is way too heavy with recasts and new characters. If someone was watching this show a year or more ago, quit watching, and decided to start again, it would probably take them at least two or three episodes to figure out who all those people running around on screen are supposed to be.
Days is extremely inconsistent. Some episodes (and parts of episodes) are so good and others are just painful. Sometimes it feels like they have at least five different sets of writers working on this one soap.
I've never really taken B&B seriously, so I guess that's why, even when other viewers get annoyed about it, I don't find much to criticize.
GH is my must-see soap right now. This is the show to watch.
This was Boston Marathon Bombing Week. As much as I's like to jump on the I hate JoshG Bandwagon, can't do it. For 5 days, the whole country stood still with first, the Bomb on Monday, then the details of pics, then finding the Two. Then the elder brother's death, and the capture of the young kid.
Everyone, everywhere, at home, the office, at the gym, was riveted to the screen about Boston.
Yeah, I can't jump on the bandwagon either.
I thought the show was super boring last week, and Friday's episode this week was boring to me too. But I just don't think its THAT bad. Dylan is on WAAAAY too much for me tho. The whole Dylan/Avery/Nick thing has been front and center...but not much action taking place.
I got a feeling things will be amped up for May Sweeps...the groundwork is just being laid right now. With Billy's gambling, Chelsea's pregnancy lie, Victor/Adam relationship, Kay's illness, Jack and Phyllis, Traci returning...there's a lot to look forward to.
As for Nelson Branco...I really wish I could post what I sent to him, but I don't want people to look at me any differently However, I will say, I have zero respect for the guy. I wouldn't let him lick the bottom of my shoe without disinfecting his mouth first. He's slime and I dislike his very existence, and that's putting it mildly. There are of course personal reasons behind my total disdain for the guy, but also because his opinion doesn't matter. He's saying all this now, and next week when he interviews Josh G or JFP, he'll be kissing their asses. #haveaseatjerkoff
Did anyone see the "additions" to the opening credits, Steve Burton has been added (rolling eyes & counting to ten) but the good news AC is now on contract and "Leslie" is in the opening credits which makes me a very happy camper...
I haven't seen SB yet. Yeah...but I actually am surprised Jill didn't have him in there BEFORE he aired.
Is it on the Monday show? Or am I just averting my eyes out of habit?
Actually I hope the credits are kept up and not 5 years behind like they were with our Maria.
Ahhh...good job Jill?
Well considering SB is on Monday, I've seen it watching online at CBS so if haven't aired on TV it's coming and seeing makes me ill. We are stuck with him.
It's not too bad, but I think that the re-casts are really starting to get on my last nerve. The new Kyle seems way too young compared to Blake Hood, and looks like a Baldwin (once again), and not like an Abbott. Haven't seen the new Abby since last week, and the gal is tall, she's only like 2 or 3 inches shorter than me, and must clock in at 6 foot tall.
Michael was on 2 times last week, and it was about 2 times not enough. I really would like to see Carmine/Michael/Lauren start to move to the front and center.
But at least the whole Chelsea and Dylan 'thing' is moving along, if a child who is 5 months along could be called a 'thing'. Not sure if smart-aa-a-whip Adam cannot figure out how to 'do' the simple Math about his own child, but let's face it. He is the stupidest father since Anakin Skywalker. (My second reference of Adam being Anakin Skywalker, but no one is picking up on it this month).
Good to see Avery and Red get into a bi+ch-fight. Actually, it was the hi-lite of the week.
Which brings up the fact that there really is no diva-fest going on at Y&R. No Nikki prancing around telling people off. No Gloria...well, being Gloria. Anita tried a little, but couldn't pull it off.
The Show could go wither way. Let's hope JoshG can get it right.
I miss the bitchiness too. I think at times Josh and team are the complete opposite of Maria. TOO safe. Give me a slap, or some name calling, or hair pulling.
Did Nina slap Phyllis on Maria or Josh's clock?
Best slap in years.
Bill always had those moments. How many times did Dru dress someone down? (I'm saying it again. Bring her back.)
Nina slapped Phyllis on Maria's clock. Oh yeah!
Bring Nina back too!
Y&R's Monday episode is almost over and another heavy episode of Dylan & Avery It was another snooze fest except for Summer, Nick & Sharon. I'm so confused how this changed so in such a few weeks. I feel they led viewers on pre-anniversary with all the vets front & center providing great drama and story but only for the anniversary show and then BAM vets on limited and pushing HARD Dylan & Avery and rest of newbies up front. This equals unentertaining hour...please Josh & Jill less Dylan & Avery and rest and more of the vets as they were before the anniversary. It should prove by the tremendous gains before the anniversary the vets bring in ratings with good story not characters that has no connections.
PS...Dylan is on Tuesday's episode which will be 11 out 12 days!
I wasn't a big fan of both Noah and Tyler picking up randon women. Or the usual Avery and Dylan scenes.
But yes, I think we do need to continue to develop Summer. And her friend really doesn't bother me much. And finally it seems like maybe Mason (who's also likable in my book) will be used.
It'll be interesting to see if he and Summer are the new faces at Jabot. It could be a good summer time story line.
And not to compare, but if they are going to continue to use "The Underground", they really need to make it appear like it really is a "happening" club. Every time it's featured, there's no one there. I don't get the feel of an actual club.
pf -- One really has to like Dylan and Avery to like Y&R these days, but hopefully, once JillFP feels like her 'guy' SteveB, is on the canvas, we will see less of him.
I really liked Tyler having almost random sex with Quinn. Hope he used a condom. But it seems very normal and realistic for a muscle-god like Tyler to be Fire-trUCKing a girl that he just met, although I don't know any girls like that.
Nick has a club, Billy has a restaurant... If I was born into multi-billionaire families like they were, I would not be guiding busboys, and serving drinks. I'd be like Adam, sitting behind a big desk in a tall bldg.
And you'd be swilling martinis at lunch with a couple of Quinns as your secretaries.
It didn't bother me that Tyler hooked up with some chick. It was a little too convenient to show both of them doing it...like Jill wants to show her male characters as some real studs.
I don't think viewers need to be shown what the characters are supposed to be. If the writing is good, we'll get it without the random plot point being thrown in.
And I hope you are right about SB. We get that he's not going anywhere, so back the "f" off Jill!
I think we are going into a very disappointing and possible damaging May sweeps in quality. I feel the ratings isn't going to be good they will feature hard Dylan, Avery & Nick which is boring right now. Tyler thing didn't bother but you're right Pferrando it should come from the writing...it seems as Jill & Josh is hell bent to convince the viewers they are "worth" the time and entertaining...NOT! Even Michelle Stafford on twitter was "putting it out there" that it has been very light on vets appearing ppl are asking what's up with hardly seen...she's on tomorrow but if the actors are feeling it you know the viewers are seeing it...(sigh and rolling eyes in anger!)
Didn't Michelle Stafford give out an interview in April or March, where she pretty much said she isn't exactly happy with how little or what kind of storyline she is getting?
I have been looking for that interview all over, all I could find was one with Carolyn Hinsey dated April 5.
I didn't read anything about MS disappointment about any stories but she was tweeting about limited air time for the vets and said lets hope this changes...it's because SB is eating up everyone's else air time...
Okay. In the Carolyn Hinsey piece, when Carolyn asked her how she feels about the direction Phyllis is going, MS responded that it's "not her place to comment on the writing, she is just an actress trying to do the best she can". Now, of course, it could be just a very professional response, which, if it is, it's great. But, given how outspoken she is, I have to wonder.
Yeah, MS was giving that same line last month when the show was on fire. I don't like so much focus on Dylan and Avery. Good lord!!! They're on every single day and absolutely NOTHING is happening with the story. We get it...you used to date, you cheated on your husband with him. You still love him, he still loves you. Other than that, what needs to be said every day on every single episode?????
@Everyone: I like less MS because she was eating up the show in the past and it was not working out back then. JFP don't play that mess. You do what you are told!
I want more Phack! They are working, MAB might used her too much but I haven't enjoyed Phyllis in eons because she's back as Phyllis again. I been enjoying Phyllis very much again with her story.
Give me some Phack. Have them on like Avery and Dylan, every single day.
I like the idea of Jack and Pyllis, and Summer and Kyle all under one roof. Today I was liking Summer a lot more. But does nuKyle have to be so stoic? Multiple times today in every scene. Are they wanting him to be unassuming and looking so old?
God, Blake did such a bang up job in that role, I can't stop banging my head!
All today's episode was good today because of vets were present and even with Dylan\Avery it was balanced today. I had my Phack today loved Phyllis reading Nick and MS & HK does have chemistry...nuKyle are they keeping him low profile right now and nuAbby been on once and for 2 minutes. I think the team is scared to give them too much too fast but Steve Burton is excluded of course
I think you are right about Abby. They know that it was a HUGE miss on their part.
She was pretty much back interacting with EVERYONE, and then after we heard "the role of Abby Newman is now being played by..." she was on in one scene and then outta here!
Today's show was muuucchhhhh better!!
I think Y&R will get back to the vets again now that Dylan is going "away"...probably Steve Burton's "time off" that he gets. So we'll be seeing the vets again thank God!!!!!
