This clip from the Claire Labine years. And it is exactly showing the essence of General Hospital It what GH should get back into being. Not camp, but a drama series. I do believe if Ron Carlivati had someone like to oversee and co-write with him he would have far fewer misses and more hits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP3ik5nsQXM

GL would still be on if

GL would still be on if Claire Labine hadn't been fired by Paul Rauch.

I always did prefer soaps

I always did prefer soaps when a scene had some meat in the context. This so seldom happens that it is notable when it does. Claire is not the only writer out there capable of this but the list is getting shorter every day.
But it is not just the head writer that has to be on top of the game. The persons that write the dialog must also do their job. This was a well executed scene with writing and acting that was top notch. I think there are many good actors still on soaps and even some newby's that have potential. They just need good words to say and a story that has some real meaning. Not just rehash.
I personally have nothing against a good campy program if it is well done. But camp has to be top notch all the time.

I approve this message. I've

I approve this message. I've watched GH since the 30th Anniversary episode in 1993 and the Labine-era was AMAZING!! I love The Team of Cartini right now (but loved them more on OLTL)....but ABC, if Claire is available, call her every hour on the hour NOW!!!

I just wish I was watching GH

I just wish I was watching GH around THIS time. I was only on the Y&R and B&B thing, and at the time I was probably in elementary school (smh) but GH seemed like it was really great back then.

I am reaaaally really trying to get on board with GH. Honestly I am. I see so many people praising it, that I want to join in on the festivities. I DO watch it now, but I just don't "get" the show. I feel like maybe I've missed too much history or something, because now it just all seems disjointed and ridiculous to me. I feel like I'm the outsider...lol.

But this scene...if I was browsing thru channels and came across this scene, I definitely would've stopped and took notice. Character driven, perfectly acted, perfectly written...not beating around the bush. Just a good scene, and I'm pretty sure this wasn't even the highlight of the story. That's what I love about a good soap. Even when the story isn't near its climax...it's still just GOOD SOAP.

I also regret not watching

I also regret not watching MORE of GH then also, tho i did see my fair share from 93-96-ish. During this time Guiding Light had my interest, as did Another World, maybe Days on and off, depends what stories there were. I was in school, almost full time, working 2 jobs, and recording 2-3 soaps! I was maxed out LOL

I also just recently learned that Marty Davich was doing the music for the Riche period, and i had NO.IDEA and i'm pissed. Corday or James Reilly must've fired him at some point on Days cuz i know he was also doing ER too around this same time. He wrote the richest themes of any of the daytime composers, except for Y/R.

She comes from the old school

She comes from the old school of writers, and her son wrote with her on one of the shows back in the day.. I don't know if it was GL or an ABC show. However she said at her age she done with daytime, and she can't deal with today execs that oversee the show vs back in the day. I guess she had enough-

Actually, if this clip is

Actually, if this clip is from August 1996, that was either Guza's first run or Richard Culliton. Claire Labine had left GH by then. I think GH is fine now but wouldn't be opposed to her coming back as a co-head as well.

Labine did not get GL. She had good characters like Sam and Tony, but a lot of duds too, mostly because of Paul Rauch -- Beth walking around with nothing on all the time, too much mob still, too much San Cristobel. I loved her GH though.
