I'm always baffled by the W 18-49 rating. It seems to do very little movement whether a soap gains or drops drastically.

It is nice to see all the soaps doing well. I know it also means JFP ain't going nowhere. Seems people like her show, General Restless.

SON has an archive on the ratings, so it'll take some digging, but I am curious as well.

WOW!

Boy, holidays does make a difference, I'm curious on the Thursday & Friday's classic episodes on YR and how strong was those repeats? All soaps should be proud in all their efforts, Kudos...I must be wrong because I personally don't find anything impressive about YR at the moment but I guess people are enjoying JFP's version YR, but not on my watch.

Harlee you're not alone! I

Harlee you're not alone! I don't get the Y&R bump either but clearly we are in the minority. I was talking with a friend of mine this morning who gave up Y&R several weeks back. He's hooked on Days and just started watching GH to see what all the hoopla is about. One of the reasons he gave up Y&R, other than the stories just not engaging him, was how the show uses music (or lack of it). He and I are fans of classic Y&R. He mentioned to me that GH doesn't use a lot of music either. I think classic soap isn't as appealing to the audience as it is to vets like us. It could be one of the reasons Days doesn't always do better despite it being lauded by fans and critics alike. Days still looks like an old school soap.

I also think it has to do with different viewing habits. One of the things I don't like about Y&R is it doesn't go deep with anything anymore. Stories hit bullet points but don't closely examine them. I think that appeals to todays audience. Faster paced, quickly resolved stories. Certainly not everyone dislikes what JFP has done with Y&R. MAB's tenure certainly didn't jolt the shows ratings this way. Much like JFP she was panned for her direction of the show only now the ratings are going up. Go figure. All I know is we are stuck with JFP. I'm sure she has no interest in changing how she's done OR doing things.

Restless,

Yes, I miss those classic music setups as the one we saw on the classic episode it showed over Thanksgiving. The music is the a good setup mode for what's happening within the story. If you heard a certain style or arrangement of music "you knew" something was up, it could be romance with the soft luring YR sound or something bad with that long sounding short beats, knowing your ass better be in front of TV because Bill's planning for something to happen...

Yes, you're right I'm coming from old school which I want long story played out slowly and beats being played, even if slow in beginning it has such a better pay off in the end. I know today people want "instant satisfaction" now and younger viewers do want it keep it moving...not me, give a good long term story to play out over the next year any old day for pure love of story telling.... Love

I love it!!!!

I'm glad to see Y&R's ratings. I for one am enjoying the show right now. Seems to be in a pretty decent place. There are no real stories going on right now, I'm assuming because of the transition, but I'm actually getting through entire episodes without turning, FF'd, or throwing something at the tv.

Also, I'm seeing a lot more Jill, which is always a plus.

I know everyone here cries and begs for Classic Y&R (Which is impossible and will never happen), but I for one am happy with Y&R right now.

B&B was decent. I like the idea of psycho-Quinn. B&B hasn't had a good psycho in YEARS....

GH to me still wasn't good. It's just not my cup of tea, and I still don't get how the hijinks at that show are so "brilliant" but if done on ANY OTHER SOAP, would be totally unacceptable.

DAYS...I like.

pferrando; I was looking at the ratings archive on SON. According to the site this was Y&R's highest rated week since the period ending Jan31-Feb4th, 2011 when the show had a 3.8/11 rating with 5,333,000 million viewers. Last week Y&R hit a 2 1/2 year high in total viewers.

Odd that no one from CBS boasted about that. That's a big deal!

I wonder what was happening that week with MAB.

I remember 2011 being probably her worst year, but I can't think back that far!

Feb 2011 was the roughly the time Cane was "killed" on the church steps. The episodes were actually quite good.

Okay. More proof that people flock to the "murders" or deaths on soaps. Yet then everyone complains and calls the shows too dark and depressing.

But...they watch anyway. Wink

Double, Double doppelgangers.....

Oh geez, in '2011 of that year with all doppelgangers going on Caleb, Sarah, etc is when I literally shut off YR for the first time ever and didn't go back until the following year.

It was when Genoa City became Doppelganger Central that I tuned out of Y&R for the next year and a half. That was the LOWEST point for me. If memory serves, there were five characters that had doppelgangers during those 18 months that I wasn't watching (Phyllis, Lauren, Cane, Patty, and Kay). The Katherine/Marge story was part of the show's history, so that one gets a pass. Smile

To be fair, 2011 was not a good year for soaps. All of them were terrible.

I was happy Cane was gone. Never have cared for that character. Sadly, the joke was on us.

I loved Y&R in 2011. For me

I loved Y&R in 2011. For me it was the best it had been since 2005. That was the year they introduced Genevieve, and I liked of course everything about her and her family, also all of the Cane story. I was glad he was alive and Caleb was the one who died.

These days Cane & Lily are totally irrelevant to me, however.

The beginning of 2012 was a wonderful Y&R time aswell. There were many things I liked.

I'm with Yoryla on YR in

I'm with Yoryla on YR in 2012. I actually felt the show was back on track. That's why I was stunned when I read on this site (for the very first time) that MAB was being replaced by this person known as JFP.

I also liked Gen a lot, especially when they calmed her character down and pair her up with Jack.

But Maria sure had a way to keep imploding with her writing by breaking them up almost immediately, killing off her best psycho, Ricky, and not playing out the Phyllis/Daisy/Ricky and Phyllis/Daisy drama long enough.

All the shows have changed drastically since then, but the good news is that all the networks are playing gotcha on their ratings press releases.

I saw all three networks praising their shows, when just a few years ago, both ABC and NBC were almost soapless. So good for all the soaps. And let's hope that Jean P can inject a little more life into some of the storylines. (I'm not very optimistic.) Sad(
