It’s due around April/May. I’m not a big fan of boring Mac, but it would be nice if she and JT came back for just one or two episodes to have the child. OLTL brought Marcie and Michael back for a couple of episodes so they could have their child on-screen. If not, at least let Katherine, Victoria and Billy acknowledge the child since they’re all connected to it in some way or another. February 16, 2011 at 12:58 am #2048713 alstonboy4315 853 Posts A-Crane, You always have such good ideas/concepts, but remember, Maria Bell is the queen of one-dimensional thinking, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for any acknowledgment of this baby……..and if they do acknowledge it, they’ll bring it back around July or August as a SORASed 18 year old and try to put him or her in some lame triangle that will inevitably leave me shaking my damn head YET again……. But I agree, they shouldn’t leave us hanging. But they will!!! February 16, 2011 at 6:50 am #2048787 Dyllan 221 Posts I would prefer if the writers forgot about Borekenzie’s baby. That chick should NEVER step foot in GC again. OMG, I can’t stand that sour puss. Don’t care about her baby. How many more rounds of Mac are we going to have? I swear there have been like a 50 recasts of Mac. February 16, 2011 at 4:00 pm #2048831 Anonymous 2899 Posts She doesn’t have to come back to GC to have the baby. She could have the baby in a Washington hospital just as long as it’s on-screen. Marcie and Michael on OLTL had their baby in Seattle rather than Llanview. Considering this is Kay’s great-grandchild, you should want to see it born onscreen. February 16, 2011 at 8:36 pm #2048903 bnt83 21 Posts Was the character of mac always so lame and boring or was it just clementines version of mac that made the character suck? I saw the episode of Michael and Laurens wedding during the holidays and I actually enjoyed the girl who played mac then. February 16, 2011 at 9:27 pm #2048911 Anonymous 2899 Posts The original Mac was the best. Mac is a sweet, innocent character and some people mistake that for “boring” because soap women are typically conniving bitches. February 20, 2011 at 7:46 am #2049624 Dyllan 221 Posts Please, Mac’s boring azz was a rewrite like Cane. Don’t care if she is Kay’s grand child. Kay is annoying. AB was overrated. RK was the best, IMO. February 20, 2011 at 3:27 pm #2049633 alstonboy4315 853 Posts I agree with Dyllan on this one. Ashley Bashioum was, in my opinion, stiff and wooden. I always cringed when she came on my screen. To be honest, I haven’t really liked ANY of the actresses who have played Mac, but if I had to choose one, it would be Rachel Kimsey. I don’t dislike Mac b/c she’s a “good girl,” but rather because she’s just plain BORING!! There have been plenty of exciting heroines throughout daytime history, but this chick simply ain’t one of them!! I am afraid for them to bring back Mac because I SHUDDER to think of which horrific actress they would find to play her this time around. February 20, 2011 at 4:11 pm #2049635 Anonymous 2899 Posts My favourite “good girl” of all time is Passions’ Charity. I wouldn’t mind someone like that in the role. But if they do bring back Mac for an episode or two to have the baby, it’ll likely be Clementine. February 20, 2011 at 8:06 pm #2049650 alstonboy4315 853 Posts A-Crane, Who knows?? You may get your wish. I don’t think that Molly Stanton or Kristina Sisco (who both portrayed Charity!) are doing much of anything these days. Molly seemed to do a few movies in the late 2000s and then she dropped off the map. The last time I saw Kristina was when she was portraying Abigail on ATWT!! I saw bits and pieces of “Passions”, but I wasn’t a big fan, as you know…. But I do agree with you. I PREFER the bitches on soaps, as long as they don’t turn into cartoon characters. February 20, 2011 at 8:35 pm #2049652 Anonymous 2899 Posts Oooh, don’t get me started on Kristina Sisco, the FAKE Charity! (Literally! She played a Charity impostor for all but TWO episodes!) Alstoboy, if there is anything you liked about Passions, I am curious to know about it! Maybe post it on the “Cancelled Boards” forum so we don’t take over this one. After disliking her at first, I grew to like Clementine Ford in the role. As far as Mac goes, I think the problem is more in the writing than the acting. February 20, 2011 at 9:59 pm #2049654 alstonboy4315 853 Posts Honestly, A-Crane, I did enjoy Josh Ryan Evans as Timmy from the few bits and pieces that I did see, and I also enjoyed Marla Gibbs as Aunt Irma. I have seen a few of her scenes on YouTube and found her to be HILARIOUS. Homophobic, but hilarious. I really didn’t watch much of Passions. It just really wasn’t my cup of tea, overall. I recall when I was in high school seeing it and watching a few episodes in 1999 when it first came on, as well as scenes here and there throughout the years. I remember reading about some of the scandalous storylines in Soap Opera Digest, such as the ones concerning the hermaphrodite, Chad and Whitney being “brother and sister,” and the infamous “Who’s the Mama” storyline concerning Theresa and Gwen, but aside from that, I really can’t recall anything that stuck out as being something that I actually “watched” continuously. I do recall the main ‘triangles,’ such as Theresa/Gwen/Ethan, Charity/Kay/Miguel. When I first watched back in high school, a few things really stuck out for me. First, I remember thinking that Jesse Metcalfe was a HORRIBLEEEE actor (but very hot!). I also remember rolling my eyes at Theresa every time she said the word “Fate” and wanting to SHAKE Kay and tell her that “Miguel doesn’t love you!” I also recall the controversy regarding Sheridan Crane and how the show got flack for trying to emulate what happened to “Princess Diana” in real life. I am not sure if I would be a good person for you to discuss “Passions” with. I know that it’s your favorite show, and whatnot, but it never really moved me or touched me the way that it touched you. February 20, 2011 at 10:03 pm #2049655 alstonboy4315 853 Posts I also admire the level of creativity that James Reilly seemed to inject into the show. During a time when most writers on most soaps just lather, rinse and repeat the same stories, dragging them from show to show and using them so often that they lose their luster, James Reilly had the nerve to think outside of the box. I was more a fan of his work on DAYS. Seriously, who else would have the BALLS to kill off 8 or 9 MAIN characters (however many he killed off?) and then have the killer be the STAR of the show????? And you know how much I loved Eileen Davidson and her many alter egos on DAYS in the late 90s. Sometimes, his stories got a little bit TOO kooky for me, but I still wish there were more James Reilly’s out there. He was truly one of a kind and I don’t think that the soap world will be fortunate enough to have another head writer such as him!!!! February 20, 2011 at 10:35 pm #2049660 Dyllan 221 Posts The only good thing about Passion’s was Ethan and Theresa, but they were never together. I wasn’t really a fan. And Theresa wasn’t really a good girl, IMO. I can’t believe someone thinks CF was good. That chick was AWFUL. OMG, I was amazed at how long they kept her. She talked like she was reading from cue cards and she was so wooden and robotic in her performance. Reilly was a lot better on Days then Passions, IMO. Also, I agree that ED needs to go back to Days. She was just awesome on that show and is being wasted on Y&R. February 20, 2011 at 10:57 pm #2049664 Anonymous 2899 Posts Alas, there’s no point to bringing Eileen Davidson back to Days without Deidre and Drake (unless she’s going to exclusively play Susan–which would be all kinds of awesome). I am dumbfounded that Days didn’t approach her in early ’07 when Y&R let her go, but at that time John was in a coma and a few months later he was “dead”, so it’s clear they were in the midst of their “isolate John and Marlena and make them irrelevant” mode. Dyllan, Theresa was definitely a “good girl” compared to that psycho Gwen! And I loved all her talk about fate. It’s definitely shaped my feelings on love and romance. JER wasn’t any better or worse on Passions over Days, he was just different. His original Days run was so epic and amazing that NBC gave them the go-ahead to create his own (amazing) soap. As far as I’m concerned, Passions is more of the “true” JER because he was writing his own creations and probably had more freedom than at Days. That being said, even though it’s similar to the Carly storyline, Sheridan buried alive is still an incredible story because he made it different enough to stand on its own. I got comfortable with Clementine’s Mac after a while. JT brought out the best in her. That being said, I wasn’t unhappy that she left. February 21, 2011 at 12:05 am #2049667 alstonboy4315 853 Posts A-Crane, One last question for now about Passions. Which Kay was your favorite???? Just curious. February 21, 2011 at 12:37 am #2049672 Anonymous 2899 Posts Heidi Mueller. Taylor-Anne Mountz was my favourite Kay for the longest time, but Heidi made Kay a character I actually cared about (even though I never [and still don't!] wanted her with Miguel). Heidi had great chemistry with Justin Hartley, and I also just plain liked her take on “Mommy Kay” and “Witch-in-Training Kay”. Heidi would make a great Stephanie Johnson recast on Days. She is beautiful with the tomboy edge that the role has been sorely lacking since Shayna Rose was fired. February 21, 2011 at 3:10 am #2049686 akbad806 243 Posts JER took it too far for me on PASSIONS and that’s why I tuned out eventually. His first tenture on DAYS was pretty good, minus the long-drawn out stories and characters constantly talking to themselves. DAYS has done that ever since and that bugs me. I know plently of other soaps do it, but DAYS is infamous for someone recapping an entire storyline in monologues. That is stupid! Also, how did Y&R’s Mac and JT’s baby thread become about DAYS and PASSIONS? LOL I love ya’ll…yes, even you A-Crane, my favorite busom buddy I just wish we could see the dynamics turn around on DAYS and allow that soap return to the formula that made it work all along: supercouples. Not Melanie and Nathan or Chloe and Daniel (barf in my mouth!) or Sami and Ej and these 52,866 children they have. Let’s move forward with Magic and get someone like Kamar de los Reyes to play in a tug-of-war romance with Carly. Give Jennifer her Jack back and give them something to do beside sit on the backburner. I could almost guarntee DAYS has plently of great epics to tell if they’d fire Hignasty and hire someone competent of writing. February 21, 2011 at 5:35 am #2049706 Anonymous 2899 Posts I like characters talking to themselves and recapping stories. It doesn’t feel like a soap without it. I loved Passions because it allowed JER to have free reign and let his imagination run wild. Only on JER’s Passions could a MAN give birth to his own FATHER’s BABY!!!! February 21, 2011 at 5:41 am #2049709 akbad806 243 Posts A-Crane, don’t give Hogan Sheffer any ideas! Next thing you know, he’ll have Adam claiming Victor raped him and end up carrying The Mustache’s kid in an attempt to beat out JER…barf. Y&R has too much as it is since it’s losing so much respect these days. Talking to themselves on NBC soaps is always more intense unlike ATWT or GH where you rarely saw/see it. Sunset Beach also worked my nerves with that, even though I ride for that show like you do Passions. Now Sunset Beach was soap opera! February 21, 2011 at 5:43 am #2049711 Anonymous 2899 Posts I liked Sunset Beach but never as much as Passions. Did you know JER was SB’s storyline consultant in 1998, between his Days and Passions gigs? February 21, 2011 at 5:46 am #2049713 akbad806 243 Posts No, I did not know that. Good to know! I think he might have done the Rosario Jewels storyline which has influenced my writing. Thanks for the info! February 21, 2011 at 5:50 am #2049714 alstonboy4315 853 Posts I watched bits and pieces of Sunset Beach. I remember Soap Opera Digest panning Sunset Beach when it premiered, saying that Aaron Spelling should have stuck to primetime. I was in high school and that was “pre-DVR” when I didn’t have time or energy to use my VCR, so I just watched it when I could. I LOVED that opening theme. In fact, I was watching it on YouTube the other day. I enjoyed Sarah Buxton, Lesley Anne Down and Kathleen Noone, but the rest of the show was not really memorable for me. Other than that crazy chick, Virginia, who impregnated Vanessa with the turkey baster!!! February 21, 2011 at 5:56 am #2049715 akbad806 243 Posts Catch it on YouTube when you have a chance. OMG it was the bizness!!!!! Had NBC kept it around, Sunset Beach would still be the perfect balance between PASSIONS and Days. That show had humor, camp, creativity, and awesome location shots. Yeah, it was hammy in the beginning, but by the end of it’s tenture Sunset was a popular soap. I’d tape Y&R and watch Sunset Beach live even! February 21, 2011 at 5:56 am #2049716 Anonymous 2899 Posts I think JER came on board around the time of Terror Island or maybe just after…that was a fun story! At that point, Days was my only “must-see” soap, but I would always watch SB and Port Charles in the summer or whenever I was home from school. SB was the most addictive and I loved the Maria/Dana story and the Poseidon Adventure “tribute”. I remember the show was originally shot on film, and it seemed so weird to me to see a soap look like that. They eventually changed it and the opening credits/theme song at the same time. SB/Passions had a lot of actor crossovers…Kam Heskin filled in as Sheridan TWICE! I don’t know if that’s a daytime first, for the same fill-in recast to come back for a separate, second stint later on for the same role. February 21, 2011 at 5:58 am #2049717 Anonymous 2899 Posts I was just thinking today how awesome it would be if “short” soaps like Passions, Sunset Beach, Santa Barbara and Port Charles were available “on demand” through NetFlix or something so fans could watch them at their own pace. In Canada, Passions has been re-airing from the beginning since August 2008, two episodes a day I think, but even at that rate it will still take almost 5 years to complete the series. A truly dedicated fan could finish Passions in a year. February 21, 2011 at 6:03 am #2049718 alstonboy4315 853 Posts Oh I remember that Terror Island storyline now. I remember that Bob Guza was writing the show in the beginning, but I think he went back over to General Hospital and then James Reilly took over the reigns, if I’m not mistaken. Like I said, I missed out on a LOT of the soaps in the 90s between juggling homework and my sheer laziness to use my VCR to record the soaps. But I will never forget the PRIMETIME premiere of Port Charles either, A-Crane. I am surprised that you were a fan of Port Charles. Do you remember the premiere episode when they did brain surgery on Audrey Hardy with the electric drill??? I remember that being VERY controversial at the time…………….. I didn’t get much chance to watch that, but that show is where I fell in love with Lucy Coe and Julie Pinson, even though the character of Eve paled in comparison to her roles as Billie on DAYS and Janet on ATWT!! February 21, 2011 at 6:07 am #2049719 akbad806 243 Posts As a big GH hater, I loved Port Charles pre Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco(gag me with a spoon). Also, how do make Kimberlin Brown into daytime’s most boring psycho? February 21, 2011 at 6:10 am #2049720 alstonboy4315 853 Posts Akbad– I LOVE your new avatar. Alexis Carrington is/was the BEST primetime bitch in television history!!!!!!!!!!! February 21, 2011 at 6:13 am #2049721 Anonymous 2899 Posts Yep, I remember the Audrey drill thing! It was the serial killer arc that got my attention, though. The peak of my PC love was the “Tainted Love” arc. I really loved Livvie and Jack, and Alison and Jamal. Caleb should’ve stayed dead and Rafe never should have become a main character! The show kind of lost me with the “Secrets” book when the alien/angels came on, but I did like how they killed off Eve and managed to keep it secret. I’ve never really liked Julie Pinson, ESPECIALLY not as Billie! (Lisa Rinna’s Billie is the best, and Krista Allen’s was a great villain.) Has Guza really been writing GH for the past 14 years? Oh my God…the peak of my GH interest was when Lucky “died” and later when Skye crossed over. February 21, 2011 at 6:24 am #2049722 alstonboy4315 853 Posts Yep, Guza has been writing GH for 14 years. I know you don’t watch GH, but I still find it to be pretty enjoyable. It’s my 2nd favorite soap after Y&R!!! Kelly Monaco crossed over to GH after PC was canceled, but the majority of the PC cast disappeared from sight or left daytime television all together, it seems. February 21, 2011 at 6:28 am #2049723 Anonymous 2899 Posts I can’t bring myself to watch a GH without Luke and Laura. Yes I know Luke is there, but he’s missing the “and Laura”. I checked out a couple of episodes to see how they handled Michael’s rape, and I am going to tune in for the upcoming Franco episodes. Actually, I seem to have some more “90s GH” memories. The first time I saw Tuc Watkins was on GH as Pierce Dorman—I think Monica was holding him hostage. And the “Tin Man” was running around terrorizing Sonny and Brenda. Oh, and I sort of remember Miranda Jacks. And Liz’s rape. I guess it helped that GH aired at 3 PM, so it was on in the house when I got home from school. February 21, 2011 at 6:33 am #2049724 alstonboy4315 853 Posts Well, it’s been fun going down memory lane with you, A-Crane and Akbad!! But I must get my beauty sleep!!!!! Talk to you guys later!!!!!!!!!!!! February 22, 2011 at 12:13 am #2049803 Dyllan 221 Posts Theresa was kind of freaky. I remember her saying that her and Ethan were fate and she practically stalked him. But I still loved her. Oh and it pissed me off to high heaves when characters recaped during the scenes. I remember Gwen saying to herself “Oh, Ethan is going to dump Theresa. She did something bad.” I remember thinking, “get this skank off my TV”. I hate it when they do that. The only time Gwen was bearable was when Natalie Zea portrayed her. Who got Ethan in the end? And I think GH is miles better than Y&R is now (with the exception of Brenda). February 22, 2011 at 12:22 am #2049805 alstonboy4315 853 Posts I believe that Theresa and Ethan got married in the final episode, but A-Crane can correct me if I am wrong. He’s an expert on Passions!! February 22, 2011 at 5:15 am #2049869 Anonymous 2899 Posts OMFG you liked Gnatalie Zea as Gwen?! I just wanted to swat that gnat whenever she was on screen. To this day I won’t watch anything with her in it. YUCK. Susan Lucci’s daughter Liza Huber was absolutely EPIC as the conniving, freaky, psychotic Gwen. Theresa NEVER stalked Ethan NOR was she “freaky”. You’re confusing her with Gwen and Rebecca the donkey-lover. Theresa is my favourite soap character OF. ALL. TIME. I don’t care that Passions has been off the air for two and a half years—I will defend Theresa ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, Theresa and Ethan married in the final episode. After Gwen was exposed for being the lying tramp that everyone except Ethan always knew she was, it turned out years ago off-screen Gwen had married a random dude in Vegas, so her marriage to Ethan was never valid. Ethan and Theresa then married. Theresa got the last line of the entire series, and rightfully so. “Always follow you passion, because that, and that alone, will lead you to your happy ending.” June 20, 2011 at 11:32 pm #2072035 Anonymous 2899 Posts Dylan Hellstrom is born!
