Days Of Our Lives: It's Just The BEGINNING!

Brace yourselves Days fans. The casting blood bath that started with Jay Kenneth Johnson clearing out his dressing room and top stars Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn being written out is just the beginning, says reliable sources.

"Don't be surprised if you hear some more big names that will shock your readers," said one source. "[Days] really hasn't figured out how to adapt with the changing times. It's really sad."

Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn Fired!

Days of Our Lives fans worst nightmare is coming true. Soap Opera Digest is reporting that both Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn have been fired. Corday told the magazine, "The couple will be happily reunited after a long period of angst and separation and will be off-screen after January for an unknown period of time. It was a very tough decision to make."

This news comes after Days of Our Lives was renewed  on the condition that onscreen cuts be made. I guess we now know what that quote meant in the Variety article. This is a sad, sad, sad day.

Wishful Casting: Which Soap Will Snap Up Drake? AKA Why Doesn't Corday Just Take a Nine Iron To the Hourglass Already?

Sources close to the set of Days of Our Lives are coming forward to say Drake Hogestyn is definitely out, which of course begs the question of whether or not another soap will be interested in capitalizing on the wildly popular star's loyal fanbase. Let's look at the options, soap-by-soap:

The Young and the Restless:

Daytime's ratings champ could prove the perfect fit for Hogestyn. Unlike the youth-obsessed ABC soaps, Y&R values veterans. Hogestyn would be perfect as Matt Miller, the younger brother of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). With both Phyllis and Nikki's romantic lives in the toilet a new Neman could be just the ticket. Either that or he could always be Chloe's father, Tiny the Plumber, who could find himself is a wacky triangle with Jill (Jess Walton) and Esther (Kate Linder).

General Hospital:

As I mentioned, not exactly known as a soap that particularly values its veterans, GH is still good about seizing an opportunity to cash in on a star's already proven popularity. What if Hogestyn came on as Liz's father Jeff Webber? I can't take credit for this one, because after Days fired Hogestyn the first time, it was heavily speculated across the web that he just might take on the role made famous by Richard Dean Anderson.

Hogestyn would be great as the dashing doctor and give GH a reason to focus more on the hospital. Plus Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) needs a new guy stat! Another possibility, given the raves Hogestyn has received for his darker portrayal of John,  is for GH to have the actor re-create the role of Stavros Cassadine, last played by fellow Days cast off Robert Kelker-Kelly.

Now that Laura (Genie Francis) is no longer on perma-drool, maybe her psycho Baby Daddy Numero Uno could make a return from the beyond? Hogestyn and Francis already made magic together once as John and Diana on Days. READ MORE

RUMOR PATROL: Is Drake Hogestyn OUT at Days Of Our Lives?; Why Are Soaps Throwing The Vets Out With The Bathwater?

Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Praise Daytime
. Okay, we bring you this with trepidation because we all know how whenever news stories are broken by online sites, the soaps love to run to the print mags to yell "not true" only for it to be later confirmed that the online sites were right all along, i.e. the on set turmoil with Dena Higley on Days, Ed Scott's firing, Josh Griffith being out at Y&R, Andrea Evans leaving OLTL, etc., however online sources are saying that Days of Our Lives front man Drake Hogestyn has once again been let go. Days of Our Lives: Anniversary Tribute

November 8 marked 43 years of Days of Our Lives on our screens. I know lately we have been less than satisfied at what the show has had to offer, but to celebrate the rich history of the show, I felt the need to take a trip back down memory lane. Soaps have that effect on people. You get carried away to a place filled with fantasy and nostalgia - after all this is where it all began soaps. We hope one day our favourite shows will return to the landmark it once used to be. Big Sigh.

There are so many characters in this clip, too many to mention, but it's actually worth the 9 or so minutes. The scary thing about this, at the halfway mark, you actually begin to think of your age. I know I did anyway - a frightful experience. Ok, so I've just turned 30, but why in God's name can I remember things like Kimberly giving birth to Andrew in a stable just like it was yesterday. See, that's nostalgia for you. READ MORE

DAYS Video Preview: A Killer Revealed!

The NBC Days website has posted the preview video for next week's episodes of Days of Our Lives (Nov 10 - 14).

The video shows the new Brady Black (Eric Martsolf, ex-Ethan, Passions) being "introduced" to his father John (Drake Hogestyn), Brady and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) at the Brady Pub, and then the big reveal (via flashback) of who killed Trent Robbins (Roscoe Born) - Nick (Blake Berris).

I'm intrigued to see the new Brady on my screen, and I'm definitely pleased to see a preview with John and Marlena (Deidre Hall). Nick's scenes interest me the most though - I want to see if he keeps acting all distorted and creepy about Melanie, especially when she's not around. What do you think?

Which storyline is the most interesting to you?
