The Northwestern art history major got her start collecting modestly priced George Hurrell photos. These days, her husband, Bill, goes deep on icons -- Marcel Duchamp, Jeff Koons -- while she champions the idiosyncratic, from Francesco Vezzoli to Mark Ryden.

One Life to Live Veteran Al Freeman Jr. Dead at 78

The entertainment community is mourning the loss of a true icon. Al Freeman Jr., a veteran of stage, screen and soap, passed away on Aug. 10. He was 78.

While Freeman appeared in several motion pictures (Malcolm X, Down In The Delta), his most lasting role was that of Capt. Ed Hall on ABC Daytime's One Life to Live from 1972-1987. He reprised the role briefly in 1988 and 2000. In recent years, Freeman taught at Howard University. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Ex-DAYS Head Writers Thank Late James E. Reilly During Belated Daytime Emmy Speech

Ex-Days of Our Lives head writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr. gave their belated Daytime Emmy acceptance speech in a statement to Soaps In Depth. Said the scribes:

"We are so sorry we were not able to attend the awards show, but are thrilled to have won! We would like to thank [DAYS executive producer] Ken Corday for his endless support and for entrusting us with his family legacy, and [co-executive producer] Greg Meng for always believing in us and having our backs -- we share this award with both of them. Thanks to NBC and Sony for helping keep the genre alive. A very special thanks to the fans -- without their devotion and commitment there would be no show.
