Campy Young and Restless Flashback: Nina vs. Cricket, Jill vs. Kay

It's old home summer on The Young and the Restless, thanks the renewal of the classic Kay (Jeanne Cooper) vs. Jill (then the cheesetastic Brenda Dickson, now mercifully Jess Walton) feud, the returns of Nina (Tricia Cast) and Phillip (Thom Bierdz) to the canvas and the possibility of Cricket Blair (Lauralee Bell) making an appearance at some point. In honor of the occasion I decided to dig up this old school clip from the beginning stages of the Nina/Phillip/Cricket triangle. Nina and Cricket were the ultimate frenemies—the beautiful Jabot teen model who had the local rock star Danny Romalotti (Michael Damien) and the Chancellor heir fighting for her hand versus the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Nina and Cricket's junior rivalry never quite reached the peaks of campy histrionics that Kay vs Jill did, but it was still good soap. I can't wait to see how Kay, Jill, Nina and Cricket react to the fact that Phillip didn't die all those years ago! Mvid courtesy of ItsMandyKimper. READ MORE

The Origin of Lauralee Bell's Family Dinner

We Love Soaps did an interview with Lauralee Bell about her new web series Family Dinner and how it came about.

We Love Soaps: How did the idea for FAMILY DINNER come about?

Lauralee Bell: I have six things that I've written that I had tucked away. I came up with FAMILY DINNER years ago, and I kind of put it on the backburner. I really have to hand it with Martha Byrne. She sat me down with Anne Clemmons, who had worked with her and done a lot of shorts. Martha said we were both talented and didn't know if we would work together, but wanted to talk about ideas everyone has, say goodbye, and see what happens.

I talked about so many other things I had ideas for, and when we were leaving I said, 'Wait, I have this FAMILY DINNER thing.' After the writer's strike, I wanted to do something where fans could write in, and if they come up with a great family dinner topic, we could use it, and they would get a "concept by" credit. I thought it would be fun if [FAMILY DINNER actress] Phyllis Diller was reciting your concept.

So a couple of weeks went by, and Anne and I emailed and agreed to do it. Scott and I met with another producer, Chris, and the four us began looking at locations and to cast the show. It was just quick, and all of a sudden it was done.

Could Lauralee Bell Reunite With Thom Bierdz on The Young and the Restless?

In an interview, with Michael Fairman, Lauralee Bell talks about Maria Arena Bell's decision to bring Thom Bierdz back to The Young and the Restless and teases the possibility of her reuniting with former co-star onscreen.

MICHAEL: Are you happy the show brought him back, with a potential for him to be part of a gay storyline?

LAURALEE: I am so glad Maria Arena Bell (co-executive producer and head writer, “Y&R”) is bringing him back, and hopefully, it should be a storyline where everyone learns from it. I wish Thom could get married to a man on the show. It would be so great. We need that.

MICHAEL: Are you considering returning to “Y&R”? Now, seems like the perfect time!

LAURALEE: Of course it’s possible, when you bring back Thom Bierdz and Tricia Cast (Nina)…

Would you like to see a Thom Bierdz, Tricia Cast and Lauralee Bell reunion?

Lauralee Bell's Family Dinner on Funny or Die

Lauralee Bell's Family Dinner debuted on Funnie or Die. "Some dinners you just don't forget." Check it out.

Former Y&R Star Bell Bringing "Family Dinner" To Web

The creative gene was apparently passed down to former The Young and the Restless star Lauralee Bell (ex-Cricket, er Christine). On June 8, viewers can check out Family Dinner, a new web series Bell co-created. Family Dinner consists of three-minute segments featuring Bell  as a nutty mother who is hellbent on becoming a guest on Oprah. Rounding out the cast is Tim Reid, as Bell's husband, Dan Cortese as a reality show producer very interested in having the family on TV and comedian Phyllis Diller, as Bell's doddering mother-in-Law.
