It's Official: Savannah Guthrie in as New Today Co-Anchor!

NBC has confirmed Savannah Guthrie's promotion to co-anchor of The Today Show with The Hollywood Reporter. This comes after a week of intense media scrutiny over Today's decision to remove Ann Curry from the seat next to Matt Lauer. Here's what NBC News Prexy Steve Capus told THR about Guthrie:

"She’s anchored for Brian [Williams] on NBC Nightly News, moderated for David [Gregory] on Meet the Press, co-hosted the 9 a.m. hour of Today, reported for Rock Center and Dateline, and provided legal insights in our Supreme Court Special Reports – and that was all within the last week," Capus continued. Would a Potential Fifth Hour of Today Put Days of Our Lives in Jeopardy for Fall of 2014?

A little item from Matt Lauer's new $100 million deal to remain with NBC's Today could give fans of NBC's lone soap, Days of Our Lives, pause for concern. Matt Lauer Sticks With The Today Show

As the morning show war heats up between The Today Show, CBS This Morning and Good Morning America, executives at NBC are probably breathing a bit easier now that Matt Lauer has signed a long-term deal to stay at Today. According to The New York Times,

“Matt always said he would only continue if he could be all-in,” he said. “The all-in factor was really key. This is demanding job with a demanding schedule. For him it was a question of lifestyle. As his family is getting older he wants to be able to spend more time with them.”

While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, sources have told Newsday that Lauer will receive an estimated $25 million per year.
