Maurice Benard

The Dimpled Don Speaks! GH's Maurice Benard on Buzzworthy Radio Tonight

General Hospital fans might wanna stay up late tonight. Maurice Benard, who has portrayed Port Charles' most notorious mobster, Sonny Corinthos on and off since 1993, will be appearing on Buzzworthy Radio tonight at 10:30 pm ET/7:30pm PT! I can't wait to hear what Benard has to say about Sonny busting a cap in his own son, and hear his thoughts about the amazing, creative renaissance GH is experiencing.

General Hospital's Maurice Benard Wants Sonny to Become a Senator!

Wonderfully-rejuvenated leading man Maurice Benard revealed in an interview with Fancast's Sara Bibel that he wouldn't mind seeing Sonny Corinthos hitting the campaign trail on General Hospital.

Do you think there would be an interesting story to play if Sonny ended up leaving the mob as a result of shooting Dante? Who do you think Sonny would be without the mob?

We tried that already. But when we tried it before, it wasn’t written, really, to win. It was written not to succeed. I just don’t know how you can get him out. You get out and they kill you. That’s the way it works. It would be interesting to see what other profession he could try. I’ve always said maybe a senator.

What? A shameless, amoral career criminal who oozes good looks and charm going into politics? Nah, who would believe that!

General Hospital Superstar-in-the-Making, Dominic Zamprogna on Today's Show!

On Air, On Soaps editor Michael Fairman spoke to the guy who catches a bullet from his own Pops on today's General Hospital,  Mr. Dominic Zamprogna (Dante)! Check out what D-Sizzle had to say after seeing his gut wrenching scenes opposite Maurice Benard (Sonny).

MICHAEL: Oh, you got a Sneak Peek. What did you think of it?

DOMINIC: I thought it was awesome. Laura Wright (Carly) always says, “You are never as bad as you think you are or as good as you think you are,” and I think that is a very fair statement. I felt really awesome on the day we did it. You always pick things apart in an unfair way when you watch it as an actor who is looking back at their performance. You can’t dictate when the producers are going to cut to what shot, or really know how you are going to look. You just hope it turns out well. I am having a hard time putting into words what it is like working with Maurice, because I just watched our big scenes and it worked so great. He came up to me before we taped these pivotal scenes, and he said, “Let’s do it. Let’s kill it.” And we did, and the scenes were written so well. And Maurice is the kind of guy that if you stay with him throughout the scene it will be a roller coaster, and that is what it’s supposed to be. When I first came on the show, because our characters were feeling each other out, as well as we as people, like, “Who is this guy that can just walk into my house and tell me how it is?” So, I don’t think Sonny has ever had to deal with a character like that. So it’s kind of interesting to be in a kind of fake position of power, because in reality, I am scared out of my pants going up against this guy. He could pull out a gun any second and shoot me. But as an actor, I felt like this was my best way to play it, even if it’s false bravado. I was to be able to come in and be the tough guy with Sonny.

Is It The End Of The Line For GH's Sonny?

Ay Dios mio! Could it be, General Hospital's charasmatic-dimpled mobster finally head to jail? Maurice Benard fills TV Guide Magazine in on what's going to happen with his alter ego in the aftermath of shooing his cop-son Dante (Dominic Zampronga)

So he’ll go to prison?

I think that’s how they’re writing it so I’m playing it to the hilt. I truly believe Sonny’s done this time. He wants his son to be safe and he sees no other way out. And Sonny wants Dante to feel like he’s the one responsible for sending him to prison. He doesn’t think he can get away with it this time—at least that’s the way I’m playing it in the scenes we’re shooting now.

This thing will go to trial?

Yeah. And I’m going to play it from here to whenever that this is the last time Sonny will see his kids, the last time he’ll see anyone he cares about. I’m not going to be all mushy-mushy about it. [Laughs] That’s not me. I’ll be a tough son of a bitch but, yeah, this could be it for him. I certainly want the audience to think that.

General Hospital Spoilers!

Here’s the Scoop! 07.01.09

Dominic/Dante… What’s in a name anyways? Apparently Dante wanted to protect his mother from his line of work and decided to change his name to Dominic. Protecting the innocent huh Dante? Well Olivia isn’t so innocent. She’s been keeping secrets from everyone about who Dante’s daddy is. How long will we have to wait this reveal out? Not sure but don’t expect for it to be out in the open just yet.

Claudia’s role in Dante’s story… Dominic wants Claudia to smooth things over with Sonny and get him on the inside. Will Sonny just give the man who held a gun on his boys and Carly a job? Really, what’s going to stop Sonny from killing Dominic on the spot? Obviously something does and it doesn’t appear to be the reveal that he’s actually Sonny’s son.

Kudos to Maurice Benard and Steve Burton… those scenes yesterday were the Sonny and Jason of old. So many emotions coming off them in waves. Is this a rare glimpse or a sign of what’s to come? READ MORE
