Tamara Braun

Tamara Braun Displays Her Varying Dimensions in TV Guide Canada

One of my all-time favorite soap sirens ever Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, General Hospital; Ava, Days of Our Lives) goes head to head with our pal Nelson Branco in an interview for TV Guide Canada. Nelson invited Tams to dish about her much-talked about role as psychotic firebrand Ava on Days, but the pair also squares off over Nelson's declaration of Braun's stint as Carly on GH as one-dimensional. Tams gives him her own brand of heck (I'm sure complete with waving arms and ghetto fab neck roll), but Nelson doesn't back down. Although he does rave about her current role, to which she contends she's glad his television reception has improved! This interview was on fire. Check it out here.

Days of Our Lives: Basic Black Fashion Face Off

Days of Our Lives seems to be in the process of updating some of its cast photos and I couldn't help but notice that Tamara Braun (Ava), Arianne Zuker (Nicole) and Leann Hunley (Anna) are all wearing "basic black".

In light of the fact that we haven't heard hide nor hair of Basic Black (the company), I thought I'd see who you all thought wears "basic black" the best. So in round one of the Basic Black Face Off we have Days of Our Lives newbie Tamara Braun (Ava) vs. one of my personal Days of Our Lives favorites Arianne Zuker (Nicole). Whoever wins round one will face off vs. Leann Hunley on Friday.

Who wears Basic Black best?

Now That The Writers Strike Is Over, Which High Profile Returnee Will Jump Ship First?

It's no big secret that the Writers Strike and the lack of primetime and film work that resulted from it helped facilitate the return of several big names to daytime this year. All My Children managed to lure back Darnell Williams and Debbie Morgan as legendary 80's supercouple Jesse and Angie, as well as more recent fan fave Rebecca Budig who reprised her role as Greenlee Smythe.

Over at sister soap General Hospital, multiple Emmy winner Sarah Brown returned to the show, but not in her signature role of Carly Corinthos, instead she created the new role of Claudia Zacharra. Days of Our Lives managed to land another GH alum who also had played the role of Carly to huge success, Tamara Braun, who they brought on as unstable mafia princess Ava. Meanwhile Guiding Light somehow managed to convince the stellar Daniel Cosgrove to return as Bill Lewis, fresh from a stint on Dirty Sexy Money.

All of these returns received heavy PR and grabbed industry headlines, but except for a brief bump for Days, the ratings haven't budged. In fact as of last week, most soaps were hitting record lows. That isn't a slam on these talented daytime returnees. They were after all dealing with soaps that for the most part were already struggling pre-strike and were by this point being written by scab writers.

The return of Williams and Morgan was one of the best reunions in soap history and as gripping as Erica Kane on the run with Maria from West Side Story has been, the Jesse and Angie redux is the only real reason to watch AMC these days. Ditto for Cosgrove's romance with Marcy Rylan's Lizzie on Guiding Light. Budig's return as the "real" Greenlee caused major backlash from fans and of her talented replacement Sabine Singh, which of course wasn't Budig's fault, but the fact that the storyline they brought her back to play out was as asinine as the one that was going strong when she left didn't help matters.

Note to writers, doing a storyline where we have to re-live the lackluster Greenlee/Ryan/Kendall triangle isn't exactly a good plan for moving forward. Rumors are buzzing that several AMC leads are on their way out, could Budig be asking for a get out of Pine Valley free card? Or maybe Williams and Morgan are already growing wearing of carrying the whole show?

Unlike the "real" Greenlee marketing nightmare, General Hospital's campaign to promote Sarah Brown's return was liquid hot. They even managed to intrigue this jaded soap fan, despite my intense loathing for actors returning to their old soaps in new roles unrelated to their original roles.

Brown and Maurice Benard crackled with chemistry and heat in those ads with both mobsters claiming they wanted to "own Port Charles". But what we got on the show wasn't a bad ass mob mama who is an equal to Sonny, instead it was much more of the same, a shallow, emotionally unstable woman who is so caught up in her quest of getting another taste of Sonny's pesto sauce that she lets it control her every move. Wouldn't it be refreshing to, I don't know, have a woman arrive in Port Chuck who can resist the Dimpled One? I can't imagine Brown, who has had moderate success in prime time, is feeling stimulated by doing the same old "You Must Love Me" song and dance from Evita  with Sonny.

Tamara Braun looks like she's having a ball as cuckoo Ava on Days of Our Lives, but given that her very first storyline on the show had her killing off the Brady patriarch, I can't imagine there's much of a future for Ava in Salem. On the other hand the show has been known to keep even the most unhinged of villains around for years (Stefano, Vivian, Kristen). The show is definitely on an upswing creatively, so maybe Tams will stick around for the ride? What do you think? Who among the recent crop of high profile returnees do you see bolting for primetime or film first?

Days of Our Lives: Would Roscoe Born Be One Supervillian Too Many For Salem?

The rumor mill has Salem fans spectating about the possibilty of soap vet Roscoe Born (ex-Mtch, OLTL/ex-Tom, Y&R/ex-Robert and Quinn, Santa Barbara) joining Days of Our Lives as the father of whacked out Ava (Tamara Braun). As a huge, huge, huge Roscoe Born fan (couldn't get enough of his Capwell daughter-bedding corporate raider Robert Barr on Santa Barbara), I would love to see him back on TV, but my question is, doesn't Days already have enough crazies running around?

Wishful Casting: A Ted King and Tamara reunion on Days of Our Lives? Beemer steaming up Bold and the Beautiful?

What soap fan doesn't sit at home and play fantasy exec/writer? Lord knows I do, it's what gets me through plots about unaborted children, jerky camera movement and the lack of diamonds or cleavage in Genoa City. Tonight I feel like playing fantasy casting director and letting you know just exactly who, in my humble opinion, should play which roles on what soaps.

Ted King to Days as Lawrence Alamain

With all the talk about the notorious Alamain clan of Days of Our Lives coming up both on the show and here at Daytime Confidential, a thought popped into my mind about how awesome it would be for former GH baddie Ted King (ex-Alcazar) to reunite with his former leading lady Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, GH/Ava, Days) in Salem!

King would be perfect as dastardly Alamain patriarch Lawrence. I loved Michael Sabatino, who originated the role, but he's been away from the soap for so many years and as the returns in recent years of Christie Clark, Austin Peck, Billy Warlock and many others have proven, having fan faves reprise their roles doesn't always lead to rating success for Days.

King and Braun were a hit with GH fans as Lorenzo and Carly. Those fans could decide to tune in to Days to see them reunited and raising hell. And while we're at it, why not throw in Ignacio Serrichio (ex-Diego, GH) as a recast for Lawrence's son Nicholas? READ MORE

Days: Ava Kidnaps Hope/Shocking Rumor Ties Vixen To The Alamains

 Ava kidnaps Hope!

It looks like Bo won’t have his Fancy Face to keep vigil by his bedside next week as loopy Ava kidnaps Hope outside of University Hospital. Steve’s unstable ex has been mistaking Hope for Hope’s sister-in-law Kayla for weeks and finally seized the opportunity to knock “Kayla” out via chloroform before spiriting her off to parts unknown.
Once Hope comes to she plays along, thinking that as a cop she’s trained to deal with maniacal mob princesses, unlike her preggers pal Kayla. Hope even calls Steve and pretends to be his wife. A panicked Steve races to save the wife of his Merchant Marine bud from madwoman Ava. It looks like Days is finally about to get its money worth out of the fiery Tamara Braun (Ava).
Ava’s pop connected to the Alamain crime family?
An interesting internet rumor making the rounds has Ava’s father being a one-time business associate of the dastardly 90’s Days villain Lawrence Alamain. Bo and Steve were investigating Lawrence’s corrupt Jencon Oil company when Steve was critically injured in an explosion meant for Bo.
According to the rumor, Lawrence faked Steve’s death and ordered Ava’s father to kill him (yeah…that makes sense), but Ava’s pop decided to turn the one-eyed amnesiac into a hired gun for his criminal exploits. Much to his chagrin, his then teenage daughter Ava took a shining to Steve (must have been that eye patch, get’s ‘em every time!), which led to Bad Daddy pawning poor Steve off on yet another Days uber villain, you guessed it, Stefano.
If this rumor proves true, I will gladly bow down and kiss Dena Higley’s ring. I got so tired of James Reilly re-writing all of the histories of Days other great villains to make Stefano the ultimate puppeteer. Long time fans know that it was Orpheus, not Stefano who caused Marlena’s plane to crash; it was Lawrence, not Stefano who caused Steve’s “death” and it was Ernesto Toscano, again not Stefano who held Hope over a pit of acid following the Cruise of Deception! Making all roads lead to Stefano made the once interesting villain cartoonish and eyeroll-inducing. I mean what were they gonna blame on the guy next,  Maury Povich?
Shelle sets sail
In other Days news, have your hankies ready as Shawn and Belle (Brandon Beemer and Martha Madison) leave town on the Fancy Face (the boat, not the mother) with cutie pie Claire in tow. It looks like history is repeating itself as Bo and Hope also set sail with their little Sailor Man Shawn D. circa 20-years ago to see the world. As much as I have griped about these two particular recasts over the last few years, Brandon and Martha have really grown on me in recent months and dagnamit, I actually hate to see them go!. Who knew all it would take was a plane crash, a cute kid and an Irish wake for me to get over Kirsten and Jason?
