Say What, Say Huh? Tatyana Ali BEAT OUT Debbi Morgan For Outstanding Daytime Actress at NAACP Image Awards!By Jamey Giddens on March 07, 2011
It looks like the Daytime Emmy selection process isn't the only awards show system in major need of an overhaul. In a move that has me wondering if Mr. Mixelplix has somehow transported us into Bizarro World, Tatyana Ali recently took home the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series, beating out fellow The Young and the Restless 1st and 15th stars in '10, Julia Pace Mitchell and Tonya Lee Williams, The Bold and the Beautiful's Yvette Freeman and shocker of all shockers, All My Children's Debbi-to-the-Morgan! Congratulations are in order for Tatyana Ali. Love That Girl, the four-episode, independent sitcom presentation the woefully-underused The Young and the Restless star appeared in earlier in the year, has received a 26-episode pick up from TV One! Love That Girl revolves around Tyana (Ali) a divorcee who returns home to Los Angeles to start over fresh in her father's (Y&R alum Phil Morris) real estate firm and re-establishes old friendships. The series will return on Jan 10. Ali, alongside comedian Martin Lawrence and R&B singer/producer Raphael Saadiq serve as executive producers. Current and former soap stars and their families mixed and mingled with primetime and film stars at the 2010 “A Time for Heroes” Celebrity Picnic on June 13, supporting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The event helped raise $1.3 million for the foundation. The Young and Restless’ Lauralee Bell (pictured above with her family), Joshua Morrow, Kate Linder, Tatyana Ali and The Bold and the Beautiful’s Ashley Jones were joined by All My Children alum Jesse McCartney, who performed at the picnic. YES! YES! YES! The announcement for honorees and nominees at the upcoming 14th Annual Webby Awards went out today, and a MAJOR shout out to the brazilliant peeps behind BET.com's smash hit web series Buppies, which is being honored at the webcast. Buppies creator Julian Breece and producer Aaliyah Williams did the damn thang with this amazing, mocha, web soap opera, along with the talented cast (led byTatyana Ali as Black Carrie Bradshaw, Quinci), and crew. Over 10,000 web series submitted themselves to be honored by the Webbys, but only the cream of the crop made the cut. I cannot WAIT to see what Breece and Williams' shingle Game Theory Productions does next! SO proud to see Buppies get the recognition it deserves.
Other web dramas to be honored are included after the jump. READ MORE
