Do Ashley and Neil Have Fireworks on Y&R?

It's been a slow burn, one going on for weeks, but one that is hard to miss. This week their mutual admiration left Neil (Kristoff St. John) wanting more. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) was disillusioned when she divorced his ex-boss Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). It has the ingredients of a hot romance. The question is,

Are you behind a pairing for Ashley and Neil?

Yes! They are smokin' hot. Bring it on!

No disrespect. But would it have killed Y&R to bring an African American actress on the show as a love interest for Neil? Maybe she will be reserved for Malcolm? Who knows. I mean Y&R will always be my show but Maria and Company needs to get their act together!!!

Reggyreg,

I'm all for the show bringing on an A-A actress, but pairing Neil with Ashley opens up a LOT of opportunity for conflict.  Neil would have more of reason to battle Jack and Victor.
Neil has been stuck in the "black box" for a while.  Why not let him explore other parts of the neighborhood?

Having black actors only date other blacks on soaps limits their characters' opportunities.

If you are looking for a black couple on Y&R, at this point, I'd prefer that the show brought Tatyana Ali on as regular and gave her and Bryton a real storyline.

I wouldn't say fireworks because neither of these characters have been on fire in years.  But the actors have chemistry.  And I agree that it would be nice to see Neil interact with other characters besides Lily, Cane, and Falcom.

Josstheguy,

I hear what you are saying and in some ways I agree with you. I just don't think this pairing is the genuine article. It is as if Maria Arena Bell threw this couple together without giving it much thought. Now if Drucilla can come back and there is conflict with the three of them that might work!

I love this coupling! They have AMAZING chemistry and it could bring so much complication to the show! I like it.

Reggyreg you remember what happened last time they brought in an African-American woman for Neil...Eva Marceille?  Yeah I'm sorry but I don't want to see that happen again.  It was a huge failure and it left a lot of us angry.

I think I have a squish name for this pairing.  How does "NAsh" sound?

I like that they have been a slow build.  Like soaps used to do the relationships!

Smitty,

If it is a choice between Eileen Davidson or Eva Marcille, I will take Eileen 100 out of 100 times! Eva was a total trainwreck! It is said because if she could have actually had the talent to act, her character and Neil could have been something special.

Poor Neil doesnt deserve all that crazy. Next thing you know, Ashley will think Dru is haunting her.

A Neil/Phyllis or a Neil/Jill pairing would have been alot more interesting. Especially if Dru were to return.

I understand the storyline potential, but I'm not buying it so far.  Though I despise the Adam character, Eileen Davidson has far more chemistry with  Michael Muhney than with Kristoff St.John.  I've never been a big fan of the Neil character so frankly I have a hard time investing in interest there(though I do think Y&R dropped the ball when they let Nia Peeples go--there was chemistry between those two).

I too am intrigued with the Ashley & Neil coupling.  I also agree, it is a wise move on the writers part to have Neil branch out of the small circle of characters, mostly his relatives, that he has been trapped within.

Ashley is certain to snap upon learning Faith is not her child.  Neil can be there to help keep her sanity in check.  We certainly don't need to witness a bat-sh*t Ashley again, carrying blankets named Robert.  Those scenes, though moments for Eileen D. to show off her acting chops, are a waste of her talent in my little opinion.

Smitty  - fun squish name of "NASH"

For quite some time I've been hoping to see conflict between Victor and Neil.  Neil was Victor's loyal right-hand-man for years only to be passed over for promotion/control by Victor's unqualified offspring. When Neil joined Chancellor I was thrilled, as he could finally be respected for what he brings to the table.

I look forward to conflict between Victor and Neil.  Victor is certain to blame Neil for the Tucker take-over.  Victor, being possessive of all of his ex-wives, will certainly not care for Neil and Ashley together.  Neil's intellect and accomplishments make him a worthy opponent of Victor's ruthless, cut throat nature.

Bring it on - both romance for Neil & Ash and confict between Neil and Victor!

I thought I was picking up on something between Ashley and Neil. I think the actors have great chemistry and I would love to see them together. Plus, if by some chance Victoria Rowell does return, the battle between Ashley and Drusilla would be fierce. They always had great arguments.

Why not bring back Olivia on full time.

Neil is a complete BORE no matter what color the actress is who is paired with him.

I might have to tune in and take a sneaky peak (haven't watched this show in four months) but I think I can get down with a Neil/Ashley pairing.  And I agree with Smitty, while it would be nice for Neil to be with another sista, I'm still trying to wipe away the memory of Eva-the-nonacting-Diva.  So unless they plan on getting Victoria Rowell back or Debbie Morgan finally gets away from the suck that AMC and signs on as Dru, I say bring on Neil/Ashely.  I'm sure TGVN is going to just looooooove his former loyal yesman swapping spit with the former Mrs. Newman.

I'm not interested in two lame characters being paired together. If Olivia comes back, however, the pairing could get interesting: Olivia's best friend in love with her brother-in-law/man she loves. If I can't get Drucilla/Neil/Olivia, I'll take Olivia/Neil/Ashley.

Neil and Ashley have great chemistry.  And, as Smitty pointed out, the last time Y&R tried to give Neil a black female love interest, we were stuck with Miss Cry-A-Lot.

I still think that Y&R screwed up by dumping Nia Peeples.  When they gave her good material, she was awesome.  Y&R stuck her in the Winters box and never gave her any female friends.

For the poll, I voted no - because I don't see or buy the chemistry. I do love the potential for storylines (1) conflict with Victor..IMO Neil has needed to go off on him for years now, (2) conflict with Jack, (3) maybe Ashley is using him to get Jabot? Maybe Jack is pimping her out?  Maybe she goes back to work again....hm......

reggyreg, I am with you, I would have preferred that they introduce another AA woman. Lily has essentially taken Olivia's place as the demure AA woman. We need the crazy one back.  I know that Tatayana has it in her....but we need SOMETHING.  Either way, given the recent casting of Malcolm...I don't trust the current casting leads with that decision, so for now, I am happy with Neil/Ashley because of the potential for Neil.

thecourt99,

Jack is pimping Ashley out?  That's just disgusting.  Jack may be a flawed man but he would never pimp his sister.  Jack loves Ashley.  I'm appalled that you would suggest that.

A pimp is a vile, disgusting creature to begin with; but a man who would pimp his sister is lower than dirt.

I would take Neil & Ashley. The conflict that would ensue could be epic. It's 2010, and soaps are ready for an interracial supercouple. Cane & Lily are lame. LOL...
I hate when a show pairs the only two black people on the canvas together just for the sake of doing it. This is the case for DAYS' Abe & Lexie.

Why not, John Abbott enjoyed himself a little bit of mocca back in the day - Mamie Johnson ring any bells.

Chemistry??? Umm....NO!! The writers have clearly put them together out of LAZINESS and an inability of the writers to create an EXCITING African American character to put Neil with. I mean, DAMN----first Karen and then Tyra??? Neither of them had an OUNCE of personality. The show wouldn't have to try that hard to create a good black female character if they simply put their pride aside, pick up the damn phone and call Victoria Rowell!!! She wrote most of her own dialogue anyway back in the 90s....she admitted it.

Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that Neil has to be with a black woman, but just an INTERESTING woman, one that is not CLEARLY still hung up on her ex-husband like Ashley is. Also, Ashley is an UNSTABLE mess. Neil will end up being her babysitter more than anything else, just like Victor did, and just like Brad was. This character is a TRAIN WRECK!! Love Eileen Davidson, but Ashley.....(ugh!!)
