Should Cougar Town Get a New Name?

It looks like ABC’s hilarious comedy Cougar Town is having a mid-life crisis. After consuming vats of wine during its first two seasons, when Cougar Town returns next season it will have a new name. According to Zap2it, Cougar Town show runners Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel are enlisting the help of fans in renaming their series. One fan suggestion on the table is Friends with Beverages.

Yes, call it Valerie, er, Valerie's Family, er, The Hogan Family, er Archie Bunker's Place, er, Golden Palace. Oh wait, none of those are good examples. FortySomthing? AfterFriends? Eh, keep it Cougartown. People know what it is.

I'm fine with the title. It's eccentric and eclectic enough of a show that it just works. If they change the name I think they lose their identity and get further lost in the shuffle. It works because it IS an odd name. This should SHOULD embrace the quirkiness! That's why I LOVE it!

Didn't care for the name but changing it is risky. They could safely call it The Courtney Cox show but seems unfair the the more ensemble feel. They could get creative and work Tom Petty's name into the title. Like "Did ya know Tom Petty lives here too?"

I don't think they should.
I know they debated it last season and then changed the opening credits to...formally known as Cougar Town but I think if they change it
1) It will probably be something stupid anyways
2) I think they run the chance of it getting lost along the way since Cougar Town is what people know.

I happen to like the title...even if it doesn't describe it completely anymore...it fits the shows and it's something different so I hope they don't go and change it.

Why change the name of the show now?? It would make no sense. Besides, it's "cheeky." Wink Wink

I think changing the name would be a bad thing since the show is already being crapped on by ABC. Taking it off the schedule for Mr. Sunshine this past season, then returning it midseason next year is a sign that the network has no faith in the show, or even stands behind the show. When it returns, a name change could be the final nail in the coffin.

That being said, the name does not fit the show. I believe the title should be changed, but to something similar, like Crazy Town. Similar, but not the same.

I totally agree with you all. Changing the name would be dumb at this point. Plus, I like reading how they mock it at the beginning each time. My biggest fear is that if they change the name, they won't have as much reason to keep the fabulous Caroline Hennesy around, as she is the only actual cougar on there, and she already doesn't have enough air time!

I agree...they need to put Caroline on more...you can never have too much Barb...everytime I see her in a scene I know it's gonna be funny. Even if it's just a 1-liner....I just feel the last season she hasn't been on much and she's not been on GH s I haven't been getting anything funny out of GH either lol.

Also agree I think they've already shot themselves in the feet for taking off the air to air Mr. Sunshine...that was so stupid.
