Barbara Walters on The Talk: “If You’re Married to The President of The Network You Get More Promos”

As she readies for retirement, is Barbara Walters worried about CBS Daytime's The Talk overtaking her ABC coffee klatch? Not a chance. In a candid exit interview with Variety, The View’s co-creator revealed:

We are not at all affected by The Talk. I don’t think the success of her show diminishes us, nor do I think the success or failure of The View affects them. The only thing I’ll say is if you’re married to the president of the network, you get more promos.

The View Politely Weighs in on Government Shutdown (VIDEO)

ABC Daytime's The View recently tackled the first big political scandal du jour since allegedly polarizing former co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar were put out to pasture. Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy and guest host Jason Biggs discussed the ramifications of the government shutdown.

I have to say, I miss Hasselbeck and Behar's respective hawk and dove takes on things. The chat was much too tame and one-sided. Who wants to watch everyone agree on The View? At least bring back Rosie and her split screen. Watch a clip after the jump!

ABC Daytime's The View is rolling out the red carpet for new co-host Jenny McCarthy. The aging chatfest recently unveiled new promo pics with the comedienne, who is joining Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd this fall.
Will McCarthy be able to fill the void left by fellow funny lady Joy Behar? Will casual View-ers tune in to see her blonde hair, and wonder when Elisabeth Hasselbeck became so raunchy? Only time—and the Nielsens— will tell. Check out more pics after the jump!
