Wishful Storytelling: How to Put The “Young” and The “Restless” Back In Genoa City’s 20-Something Set

Abby Newman ceased being interesting the day Emme Rylan beat a hasty retreat from Genoa City, Wisconsin for Port Charles, New York. That isn't a slam on replacement Melissa Ordway. She is a solid actress, but The Young and the Restless obviously had no interest in developing storylines for the character when she first came on.

Rylan was fired because TPTB had no story for her character. A fan revolt got her re-hired, and it is apparent the only plans devised were to have Abby (by this point played by Ordway) run around town, butting into her older relatives' love lives, while spouting cut downs from 90's rap songs.

"Hoochie Mama"? Seriously, who says that anymore? She should have called Kelly (Cady McClain) a slut-astrophe.

Victor Tells Dylan There’s No Room at The Inn, OR In The Will on Young and Restless! (SNEAK PEEK)

Eric Braeden should have been on Baywatch, because he is rescuing the hell out of this Dylan-is-Nikki's-long-lost-kid farce! Today on The Young and the Restless, The Great Victor Newman chastises Dylan (Steve Burton) about Nikki's (Melody Thomas Scott) will. I literally scream with laughter everytime Victor hoe-checks this interloper.

Somewhere, certainly not Wisconsin in the winter, Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Tyler (Redaric Williams) are frolicking on the beach. Remember when an actual storyline preceded romantic location shoots on soaps? In fact, they used to be the payoff, following a supercouple-building arc.

Ordway has been in two on screen romances, since taking over the role of Abby, but has yet to have so much as one storyline. I guess Abby and Tyler have endured some pretty insurmountable odds, what with his imaginary ex-girlfriend coming between them and all.

Back home in the G.C., Summer (Hunter King) blabs to Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman) about knowing Fen (Max Ehrich) killed Carmine (Marco Dapper). Would that she, Jack (Peter Bergman) and/or Avery (Jessica Collins) be a 10th as interested in learning how Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) ended up with porridge dribbling down her chin. Jack Explains Espionage and Sesame Street to Kyle on The Young and the Restless (SNEAK PEEK)

Today our special letter is "E", boys and girls — "E" for "E-S-P-I-O-N-A-G-E". Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) has the unenviable task of trying to explain what corporate espionage is to his nitwit son today on CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless.

Maybe when Diane Jenkins stole the sperm to make this kid, she forget to refrigerate it properly? Kyle (Hartley Sawyer), of course, just stands there going "Doh!" as his Daddy tries to teach him some sense.

At least Michael (Christian LeBlanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman)'s kid is fairly sharp. Okay, so he does dope and ends up in the clink quite a bit. Other than that, Fenmore's (Max Ehrich) a regular Einstein compared with most of his peer group on this soap!

Speaking of Fen, Paul (Doug Davidson) simply will not stop investigating him for Carmine's murder (Marco Dapper). I guess the Chief of the Genoa City Police Department is still smarting over Lauren getting to keep the toaster in their divorce. Watch a sneak peek of today's Y&R after the jump!
