INTERVIEW: Ron Raines Dishes Beacon Hill, Guiding Light, OLTL and Broadway

Guiding Light and One Life to Live veteran Ron Raines is once again bursting soap bubbles, this time on Crystal Chappell's political soap Beacon Hill. I caught up with Raines to find out about his new gig as sinister Senator William Preston. Is his new character even more ruthless than GL's Alan Spaulding?

Raines also shared his thoughts on the end of Prospect Park's version of OLTL , his work on Broadway and what it would take to get him on one of the four remaining daytime sudsers.

Daytime Confidential: What's it like working with your former Guiding Light castmates, Crystal Chappell, Ricky Paull Goldin, and Tina Sloan, again?

Ron Raines: Great.  First of all, they are all colleagues of mine from Guiding Light that I truly adore and have worked with all of them. I have had heavy storylines with each of them. Beacon Hill is just starting now, and I am hoping to repeat some of the chemistry that we had on Guiding Light.

Who are the 60 Greatest TV Villains of All-Time? TV Guide Magazine's Bruce Fretts and Matt Roush listed their picks for the dubious distinctions in the March 25-April 7 issue of the magazine.

It should come as no surprise that many suds evil-doers made the cut, including Dallas' late, great J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) at No.1; Dynasty devil Alexis Colby (Joan Collins) at No. 7 and Dark Shadows' Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) at No. 8.

Ron Raines Likens Newsies’ Pulitzer to Guiding Light’s Alan Spaulding

Since Guiding Light’s end, former soap star Ron Raines has continued to impress audiences with roles on the stage. He's currently playing ruthless mogul Joseph Pulitzer in the Broadway production of Newsies.

Theater Mania caught up with Raines and asked him whether he sees similarities between his GL role as Alan Spaulding and Pulitzer.
Did you see the similarities between Alan Spaulding and Joseph Pulitzer?

Yes, and I think I've brought a bit of the mean Alan to the role. To me, they're the same guys -- moguls who can manipulate and are controlling. Like Alan, Pulitzer is not stupid and he doesn't suffer fools gladly.
