Castle's Hedge Fund Homeboys

Castle was back for its third episode and this time Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) are solving the murders of two teens. This week's episode continued the show's string of solid episodes. While I enjoy Castle and am pleased with how it is evolving, the show doesn't seem to hook me the way that BONES does on FOX. I love the BONES-style dynamic betweek Castle and Beckett, but there is something I can't quite put my finger on that I think is missing. Not that I'm complaining, because I enjoy Castle way more than a Law & Order or CSI.

What grade do you give this episode of Castle?

Michael Graziadei on ABC's Castle

Michael Graziadei from The Young and the Restless appeared on Monday night's episode of Castle as one of the suspects Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) interview as they investigate the murder of a young woman stuffed in a laundry clothes dryer. More pictures from the episode, including Seamus Dever's (Listen to our interview with Dever) Kevin Ryan after the jump. READ MORE

Battle of the Ex ABC Soap Stars: Nathan Fillion vs. Eva LaRue

Current and former soap stars were all over the place during Monday night TV (more posts coming on those appearances), but now ABC's Castle is taking on CBS's veteran procedural CSI: Miami. Both shows feature former ABC soap stars. Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan, One Life to Live) stars on Castle while All My Children's Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Grey) has been solving crimes on CSI: Miami since 2005. The question now becomes can Castle give ABC the procedural it so desperately craves or will it be sliced and diced by CSI: Miami?

As a rule I rarely watch most "classic" procedurals such as CSI or Law and Order. In fact I loathe most of them. I blame such shows, along with reality television as a genre, for the decline of great sitcoms and serialized dramas. Though I will admit to watching CSI: Miami as a time slot last resort when nothing else is on.

On the other hand, I've always enjoyed less cliche crime dramas like BONESThe Closer and now Castle because they have a twist or hook that isn't procedural related. With Boston Legal no more I am ecstatic to have a show like Castle to watch on Monday nights. For me it isn't even a question of Castle or CSI: Miami.

DC #373: Castle Preview With Seamus Dever

Seamus Dever knows a thing or two about playing bad guys. After all, it was his character Dr. Ian Devlin who accidentally shot young Michael Corinthos on General Hospital. On ABC primetime's Castle, premiering tonight at 10/9C, Dever finally gets a chance to play one the good guys. He plays Irish cop Kevin Ryan, sharing screentime with Stana Katic, Jon Huerta and fellow ABC daytime grad Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey, One Life to Live), who portrays the title character, Richard Castle, a best-selling crime novelist suffering from writer's block, who decides to shadow NYPD detective Kate Beckett (Katic) for inspiration.

On this episode of the Daytime Confidential Podcast, Dever chats with Luke and Jamey about his role on the highly-anticipated midseason show, his first as a primetime series regular. Dever shares that although Castle is being likened to 80's comfort food TV programs like Moonlighting or Scarecrow and Mrs. King, he sees more of a parallel between the series and the popular screwball comedies of the 30's and 40's, which he says sets Castle apart from other primetime crime procedurals. He also reveals whether or not he believes there is more pressure for the show to suceed considering ABC's recent cancellations of such high-profile shows as Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Life on Mars.

Then Dever looks back with Luke and Jamey about his brief, but memorable stint on General Hospital. He reveals how he felt when he learned the antihero doctor he signed on to play, was being turned into a mob assassin, and what role the 2007-08 Writers' Strike played in that plot twist. Dever talks about what it was like working with Sebastian Roche, Tyler Christopher, Jason Thompson and Sarah Brown, whom he still considers a pal, and reveals if he and Nathan Fillion swap soap stories on the set of Castle. Dever also provides a sneak peek of Ready or Not, his upcoming Direct-to-DVD buddy comedy. It's an episode you don't wanna miss.

Nathan Fillion's Crime Fighting Castle Preview

Calling all Nathan Fillion fans! You have to watch this new trailer preview for Nathon Fillion's new ABC TV series Castle. It is hilarious! I'm not even a fan of procedurals and I'll be tuning in for this one.

Nathan Fillion's Castle Picked up by ABC

What is better than a former soap hunk in a crime drama? Very little, I suspect, at least for Daytime Confidential's Tina who must be in heaven with word that the pilot of Nathan Fillion's Castle has been picked up by ABC, according to E! Online.

According to E Online "Castle is the story of a mystery writer who advises the New York City police on particularly difficult cases. (Sort of like how after 9/11 the feds asked screenwriters to come up with the craziest terrorist scenarios they could think of, in hopes of being better equipped to deal with the possibilities.)"
