Downton Abbey Recap: The London Season

 
The Crawley family headed to London in the of summer 1923 for Rose’s (Lily James) coming out season.  Cora’s (Elizabeth McGovern) brother Harold (Paul Giamatti) and her mother Martha (Shirley MacLaine) even came to visit. 
 
Tom (Allen Leech) decided to go later and ran into Sarah (Daisy Lewis) when he went to have dinner in the village.  She invited herself over for a tour, and an uncomfortable Tom agreed.  READ MORE

Downton Abbey Recap: Mary Plots to Keep Anna and Rose Safe


With Gregson (Charles Edwards) still missing, Edith (Laura Carmichael) planned to give her baby to a kindly tenant farmer, to adopt and raise with his children. Rosamund (Samantha Bond) advised against this, since it would be too painful to see one’s child raised by someone else. 
 
Instead, she convinced Edith to go on holiday to Switzerland with her, and give the baby up there. Violet (Maggie Smith) realized what was going on, and gave them the money for their trip.  READ MORE

Downton Abbey Recap: Lady Edith Deals With Her Pregnancy

 
Robert (Hugh Bonneville) and Thomas (Rob James-Collier) went to America, after Cora’s (Elizabeth McGovern) brother got involved in a financial scandal. Apparently they thought his being a British aristocrat would woo their Yankee counterparts into letting illegalities slide? 

Robert almost took Bates (Brendan Coyle) with him, but Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) told Mary (Michelle Dockery) what happened to Anna (Joanne Froggatt), so she could dispel her father of the notion. Downton Abbey Recap: The Roaring ‘20s Come to Downton

 
Rose (Lily James) secretly arranged for Jack Ross’ (Gary Carr) band to perform at Downton for Robert’s (Hugh Bonneville) birthday.  The entire household seemed more scandalized he was playing jazz music, than about him being black. 
 
Everybody went with it and had a good time though. Later, Mary (Michelle Dockery) walked in on Rose and Jack making out.  READ MORE

Downton Abbey Recap: Bates Learns Anna Was Raped


Over the course of Downton Abbey’s four seasons, it’s been safe to say Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) will eventually reveal all your secrets and/or insert herself into your private business — despite being ordered not to! 
 
This week, it was Anna’s (Joanne Froggatt) secret about the rape, which was revealed. Bates (Brendan Coyle) saw the two conspiring. He went to Mrs. Hughes and threatened to leave Downton because his wife no longer loved him, unless she told him the truth.  READ MORE

Evil Edna (MyAnna Buring) wasted no time going to Branson (Allen Leech) the morning after. She wanted him to promise he’d marry her, since she could be pregnant.
