ABC popped a lot of corks when Good Morning America dethroned the Today Show as the top morning show, but with great success comes big pay raises. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Elliott, Robin Roberts and Lara Spencer are all in contract negotiations at the same time, in what has been dubbed "a nightmare" situation for Ben Sherwood, head of ABC News, by a competitor. Reportedly,
Spencer and Elliott, who co-hosted the summer spinoff Good Afternoon America in 2012, are said to be looking to grow their brands through larger roles at ABC -- or elsewhere. Meanwhile, Roberts, 52, who returned full-time to GMA in September after a four-day-a-week schedule following a bone marrow transplant, has plenty of options within the Disney-ABC organization, including her own talk show. Kathie Gifford dropped by The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson on Fox News and revealed if she had it to do all over again she'd go back to Hebrew University and study the Scriptures.
"If I could go back to college, I'd probably go to Hebrew University in Israel and study for however long it took to get my rabbinical degree. Because I started studying the Scriptures that way, through the eyes of a rabbi and through the Middle Eastern eyes and it's transformed my life."
Contrast that to the Gifford who we love boozing it up with Hoda during the fourth hour of Today.
The Perky One just can't catch a break in regards to her post-Today career moves. Katie Couric struggled to bring in the ratings as anchor of the CBS Evening News, and now it looks like her costly, Disney-backed daytime talk show could soon be cancelled. From The Hollywood Reporter:
One of the TV's priciest daytime experiments soon could be coming to an end. Stations throughout the U.S. are contracted to carry Katie Couric's syndicated talk show through summer 2014, but the decision on whether Katie will score a third season likely will be made this month -- and renewal seems a long shot.
