Food Network star and celebrity chef Paula Deen skipped out on a planned appearance on The Today Show, in the aftermath of reportedly admitting to using racial slurs in the past.
Matt Lauer reported Friday, Deen cancelled her planned “no restrictions” interview with him, claiming "exhaustion." Drama unfolded near the Rockefeller Plaza set of The Today Show this morning. An unidentified man pulled out a knife and started cutting his wrists, while Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie were outside hosting live.
NBC security stepped in and disarmed the man, who was taken to St. Luke’s hospital for treatment. Later, the show went back inside the studio where Lauer discussed the incident on air, stating the man was trying to harm himself. Watch the TMZ video of the incident after the jump!
It looks like Good Morning America’s dominance over the wounded Today is becoming more permanent. According to The Hollywood Reporter, GMA ruled the ratings roost during May, in both total viewers and the 25-54 adult demographic. It was GMA's biggest win over their NBC nemesis since 1994.
GMA averaged 2.1 million viewers in the key demo, up 2 percent from the same period last year and 110,000 viewers north of Today. The last May sweep that saw a victory of that size was in 1994. CBS This Morning came in a distant third, just under a million shy of GMA. READ MORE

After years in daytime as a co-host on The View and a co-anchor on Today, is Meredith Vieira ready to take the plunge with her own daytime talk show? According to Us Weekly, Vieira is taping a pilot for NBC.
Insiders tell Us that Vieira, 59, is currently filming the pilot for her NBC show, which is in the vein of Katie Couric's ABC daytime talk show. The series has not yet been picked up, but if and when it is, it would air sometime in 2014.
Previously, The New York Times’ Brian Stelter reported Vieira was in talks with NBCUniversal for a syndicated talk show. Reportedly, if picked up, Vieira’s show could go head-to-head with either The View or Katie Couric’s Katie. Talk about intrigue in daytime. READ MORE
Just how unbearable was Today for Ann Curry in the months leading up to her exit? According to an excerpt published by the New York Times from Brian Stelter’s new book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, Curry told friends “her final months were a form of professional torture.”
One staff person recalled that “a lot of time in the control room was spent making fun of Ann’s outfit choices or just generally messing with her.” On one memorable spring morning, Curry wore a bright yellow dress that spawned snarky comparisons to Big Bird. The staff person said that others in the control room, which included 14 men and 3 women, according to my head count one morning, Photoshopped a picture of Big Bird next to Curry and asked co-workers to vote on “Who wore it best?”
