This is quite possibly one of the most painful things I've had to endure watching as a General Hospital fan, more so than even the deaths of Lila or Alan.
Leslie Charleson's acting is absolutely amazing and chills ran up and down my spine as I watched it. Monica's pain at the loss of Emily with no children around to comfort her is wrenching. Leslie is such a great actress and so woefully underused by TPTB at General Hospital she REALLY needs a front burner storyline.
While I don't mean to sound calloused, the death of Emily could be just what it takes to get Monica on front burner again.
For TPTB that might be (but probably aren't) reading this here are a few possible storyline ideas.
1. Have Monica throw herself into her work at the hospital. Run and win the Chief of Staff position. Have her take out on her pain on people in the hospital like Epiphany, Liz, Robin, Patrick and all the other Night Shift doctors we don't care one cent about.
2. Have her and Edward team up to "save" Jake from Jason's "death grip" and try for custody of the child or get Elizabeth to live in the Q mansion with Jake and Cameron. Have her become seriously over protective of them like someone who has lost so much could.
If you don't like either of those ideas then how about this. Or even if you do I think that this would be an excellent storyline to incorporate into any of the above possibilities.
3. Have Monica go to a grief support group and have her battle her grief by building new relationships with people who are going what she's going through. Widow's who have lost children, husbands or family and find themselves alone (whether emotionally or physically) are an often overlooked segment of the population and this isn't a story we see in daytime very often.
Leslie Charleson deserves a Supporting Actress nomination just based on today’s show alone. Leslie Charleson, John Ingle and Robin Christopher should be applauded.
