Later this month on March 26, Young and the Restless celebrates 35 years in the soap industry. Y&R was first broadcast in 1973 created by William J Bell and Lee Phillip Bell and continues it's strong hold as the Number #1 soap in America. As part of the show's celebrations, many of the shows past favourite cast members will be returning, together with sister soap Bold and the Beautiful. Several faces from the past will return, already confirmed with a place is Michael Damien who portrays Danny Romalotti. Y&R have won an astounding seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, only General Hospital hold the record with nine for the most awards. The week ending February 29th, 2008, Y&R celebrated it's 1000th week at the top of Nielsen's Ratings with only more chance to further stamping it's place at the top with the 'welcomed' firing of Lynn Marie Latham and the positioning of Josh Griffith as Executive Producer, Maria Arena Bell as Head Writer and the rumour that John F Smith will soon take back the role of Head Writer from Maria. The show has spawned many fan favourite characters, including Katherine Chancellor, Paul Williams, Victor and Nikki Newman and the Abbott family.
