CBS Drops Ball By Not Doing March Madness/Soap Media Tie In


ABC Daytime recently teamed up with its cable sib ESPN to cross promote  ABC/SoapNet's lineup of daily pot boilers and ESPN's maddeningly addictive Fantasy Baseball League via hilarious spots featuring soap stars past and present in over-the-top situations with ballplayers. This got me to thinking-don't worry, it doesn't happen too often-why didn't CBS do a similar campaign featuring basketball players for March Madness?

March Madness kicks off this week on CBS and will pre-empt the network's daytime lineup. What better way to stave off hungry soap fans and perhaps hook a couple of hoops lovers, than by creating splashy, humorous commercials featuring soap and basketball stars?

I know there are rules against college ballers recieiving any kind of endorsements or the like, but CBS could have used NBA stars like LeBron James and paired them with CBS soap sexpots like Michelle Stafford, Katherine Kelly Lang or Maura West!

One thing I will give Brian Frons and his Mouse House soaps is that they still are still at least thinking out of the box when it comes to promoting their serials. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to see some basketball superstar do quality control for the Brooke's Bedroom line from B&B?
